Ask HN: Would you take your engineering team to Buenos Aires for an offsite?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47726018Hey HN,I’m doing some market research on the logistics and viability of hosting corporate tech offsites in Buenos Aires, Argentina. With the shift to remote/distributed work, annual or bi-annual company retreats have become the main way teams build rapport. We see a lot of teams going to Mexico City, Lisbon, or Costa Rica, but I'm looking closely at Buenos Aires (as I live there).Timezone: Favorable for the US (EST +1 or +2) and easier for EU overlap.Cost: Highly favorable exchange rate makes luxury/premium experiences much more affordable.Culture: World-class food, infrastructure, and a strong local tech ecosystem. However, the flight time from the US West Coast or parts of Europe is significantly longer than going to Mexico or Portugal.I’d love to hear from founders, CTOs, and engineering managers who have planned or attended company retreats:1. Has your team done an offsite in LATAM? If so, where, and how did you choose the location?2. Is flight duration the ultimate dealbreaker? Woul

Airbnb has locked payment on my account for 8 weeks and still no follow-up emailhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44424041A little before mid-May I opened Airbnb, as I’ve done hundreds of times over the past decade, to secure a house for an important summer event with friends. I clicked “Book,” waited for the familiar animation… and the payment failed. No big deal, I thought. I switched to another card. Same red banner. I tried my balance of gift credits. No luck. Over the next hour I repeated the ritual from three different devices—laptop, phone, even an old tablet—using cards issued while living and working all around Europe, both Americas, the Middle East. Every attempt ended the same way: an error, no explanation. For the first time in ten years of globe-trotting stays—rooftops in Lisbon, cabins in Patagonia, canal apartments in Amsterdam, lofts in San Francisco, studios in Dubai—Airbnb slammed a door in my face.So began my long walk through support. The chat agent was polite and assured me a “specialist” would email me. Days passed, and no email came. I tried again and again. Each new thread ended with

Ask HN: How good are the local startup scenes in Lisbon and Sofia?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10638815I'm a solo founder and my startup is beginning to get some momentum. To capitalise on this I've decided it's time to move ops out of my spare bedroom and in to a more dynamic environment. Main goal for moving: increase my chances of bumping in to like minded people and finding a co-founder / first hire.I've narrowed the choice down to Lisbon or Sofia (having started with London, Paris, Barcelona, Sofia and Lisbon) and would love to hear the experiences of any HNers who have spent time in either city - especially if it was while bootstrapping your own startup (or working for someone else's)!Things I'd love to know: quality, size and diversity of local talent; quality of local accelerators and investors; how easy/hard it is to find (good) people that want to take a risk and work for an early stage startup; friendliness of the local startup scene. My pros for Sofia:- Betahaus co-working space- Fantastic cost of living (~30% cheaper than Lisbon - which itself is already cheap)- Lovely city,
