Crytek haven't paid their employees in Bulgaria in 3 monthshttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13140938Crytek haven't paid their employees in Bulgaria in 3 months and all workers in that office are currently owed 3 full salaries. The company is not looking to pay these salaries any time soon and have spent the last few months lying about the availability of this money in order to keep as many employees as possible. The Yerli brothers (Avni, Cevat and Faruk) are now looking at the second delay in the last 6 months (after finishing up a delay of 2 months just before the current one) and the third payment delay in the last two years. The former director of the Sofia studio, Vesselin Handjiev, left several months ago and the studio is entirely at the mercy of Crytek Frankfurt's leadership, which has proved to be unsuccessful in stemming the current bleeding for 6 months.Anyone who has an offer or is otherwise considering joining Crytek is advised to steer their ship elsewhere, as the current situation is rumored to apply to all studios within the company, even after the closure and selling ofDec 9, 2016 7:04 PM

Ask HN: Visiting Bulgaria and Romania: Where to Stay? What to Do? Who to See?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11523542Looking for advice on getting the most out of the city from a startup perspective. I'd love to have the potential to meet a few freelancers or dev shops in the area face to face.I wouldn't mind having some advice as far as where to stay, anything I have to see or do while I'm in the area. As a first time visitor, is their anything I just cannot miss?I wouldn't mind building a good network of contacts that have a potential for friendships or working relationships. To put it bluntly, what would you share with an American coming to Bucharest, Romania. Then Burgas and Sofia in Bulgaria.Apr 18, 2016 10:19 PM

Ask YC: Auction-based pricing?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=402131We are organizing a coworking office space in Sofia, Bulgaria. One of our biggest problems is finding the right price to ask for rent, as the difference in income for freelancers here can be as big as 15 times. Therefore, we are leaning towards auctioning off the 30 office spaces one by one. (Technically, the 30 best bids will win, with the minimal bid being the cost of electricity and water for the person.)Pros:- Maximal usage of office space. We better have 1 person pay $5/mo instead of leaving the workspace empty.- If this is a blind auction, the best bid could be as much as twice the average.- We can accommodate people from different levels of income (e.g., underpaid artists).Cons:- Confusion on behalf of people wanting to sign up.- If the auction is open (everyone can see the bids) we won't get such a good price, because we don't think there will be more than 100 people bidding for the 30 places.- Winner's curse. People may feel tricked if they pay more than their peers.- We won't Dec 18, 2008 2:37 PM
