Show HN: Kora – An AI-native OS layer written in 370k lines of Rusthttps://intuitivecompute.comWe've been building this for ourselves over the last year. We wanted the computer from Star Trek, something you just talk to, that knows your context, controls your environment, and runs locally. Our core belief is digital sovereignty in that you should own your context. Your conversations, files, voice, memory, and identity never leave your machine unless you explicitly choose to route through a cloud provider. No telemetry, no accounts, no data collection. The AI that knows the most about you should be the one you control completely.Kora is an operating system layer built around an AI agent. On Linux it runs as the GUI directly in Wayland (OpenGL via femtovg). On macOS it's a native app with a Metal compositor. It's not a chatbot wrapper, it's closer to a full OS where the AI is a first-class service. The stack is ~8 services running locally:- UI: custom window manager with guest app compositing. Apps are standalone Rust binaries that communicate with the host over IPC.- Multi-device: Mar 26, 2026 3:18 PM

Show HN: A text-to-motion-graphics enginehttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47234414Hey HN,Like many bootstrapped founders, I needed to create a high-quality promotional video for my startup (NexChat). But hiring a motion graphics designer or spending weeks keyframing UI animations in After Effects wasn't feasible. To solve this, I built an internal text-to-motion-graphics tool. It takes plain text descriptions (e.g., "animate floating Gmail and Reddit icons connecting to a central hub" or "show a laptop screen syncing with a mobile UI") and programmatically generates the motion graphics, seamlessly compositing them over existing video footage.I used it to generate 100% of the UI animations, floating icons, and text tracking in my promo video. The whole process took me less than an hour. Here is the output (YouTube link):https://youtu.be/YGILQN4Rl1Q(Note: The video itself is a promo for my main app, but I am sharing this here to showcase the motion graphics engine that generated it).The tool is currently just an internal pipeline, but I want to see how well it handles dMar 3, 2026 4:03 PM

So I built a webapp. OK, now what?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1832772A few buddies and I spent this summer building Facebook apps. Some of them (in my inevitably biased opinion) are pretty fun.One Facebook App we made lets people overlay mustaches onto their friends' profile pictures.Another Facebook app is for compositing your profile picture into The Daily Show's Rally to Restore Sanity poster. It shares similarities with Twibbon. We thought both of them had a really good chance of becoming viral; yet neither seem to be. I'm at a loss as to why. Is the original concept bad? Did we fail in the execution? Do people just not use Facebook apps anymore? Is "virality" more stochastic than I originally anticipated?More generally, how do you measure the odds of a product gaining lots of traction and users before you actually build it? I'm sure we all get caught up in our enthusiasm for the projects we are working on; what methods do you use to independently validate your ideas?I apologize for the two differing ideas in this post. 1) If possible, I'd love some Oct 26, 2010 3:16 AM
