Ask HN: What is TensorFlow still good for now?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47567107I heard that in the ML community most people work now in Pytorch. My understanding of TF was that it was more than an ML framework and more of a general purpose high performance, GPU framework. What to you think?Mar 29, 2026 8:44 PM

SNN brain-inspired gen-AI in C/C#, no external AI libs could be promising?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47696113So over the past months I've experimented with many potential alternatives to transformers, one of which is the so called Spiking Neural Networks which, to the ones unfamiliar with them, is an approach to AI which seeks to make AI as similar to the human brain as possible, in other words while transformers or RNN, LSTMs are result-driven (not seeking to simulate human 1:1) - SNNs actually try to mimic the way humans learn exactly. The idea to use them for NLP isn't entirely new (google SpikeGPT), however to the best of my knowledge no one yet has tried this:* inclusion of episodic long term memory in SNN every-n-number-of-tokens behind (my own idea...); * implementations in C and C# ports without torch/tensorflow (SpikeGPT is in python with torch); * several types of 'attention' and training modes and memory modes; * training/learning without backpropagation; * CPU-friendly in the sense that while it's still kind of slow (unfortunately) at least GPU isn't mandatoryHere are the screenshApr 8, 2026 8:53 PM

Show HN: I wrote my first neural networkhttps://github.com/stupid-genius/PerceptronI have been interested in neural nets since the 90's. I've done quite a bit of reading, but never gotten around to writing code. I used Gemini in place of Wikipedia to fill in the gaps of my knowledge. The coolest part of this was learning about dual numbers. You can see in early commits that I did not yet know about auto-diff; I was thinking I'd have to integrate a CAS library or something. Now, I'm off to play with TensorFlow.Mar 14, 2026 12:21 AM

Show HN: Transcribe audio from apps, files and your device's microphonehttps://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dstudio.d_transcriber&hl=enHi HN,I built a free Android transcriber that has no ads or extra downloads to start transcribing without any limit. It’s a simple app, all things considered; however, what I would like the community’s input on is how I can improve the accuracy.I currently use the C++ TensorFlow Lite library to load the base(yup base, not tiny) English Whisper model into the app. This is passable for the most part, with about 88%–93% accuracy based on my research and experience using the app. But these newer models, like the ones used in the basic Google Recorder, hover around 95%–96% accuracy (to simplify things).I know that as a solo developer, I won't have access to those proprietary Google models. However, if anyone is familiar with an easily accessible model with higher accuracy than the base Whisper model that is roughly the same size (or smaller), I would love to hear about it for future releases. The model doesn’t necessarily need to be in a TensorFlow Lite format, I’m willing to redo the impleMar 9, 2026 2:23 AM

Show HN: BI-LLM democratize data analysishttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41285543Hi HN! BI-LLM (https://github.com/amVizion/BI-LLM) automates data analysis workflows on semi-structured data. The assumption is that many decisions could be led by data, but instead are made by intuition because doing analysis would be too slow or expensive. The sweet-spot is decisions based on a few hundreds to a couple thousand items: too many to analyze manually, too few to dedicate an analyst to it. I believe that powerful insights are derived from a large number of data-driven decisions. There are 3 things special about BI-LLM:1. Web-native: the code is fully developed on TypeScript. A native integration with web, avoids the need for specialized software, or licenses. More importantly, I hope it contributes opening the field of AI to a wider group of developers.2. Runs-locally: BI-LLM uses a combination of statistical, machine-learning, and GenAI methods to automate the analysis. Embedding models run in TensorflowJS, and LLMs in Ollama. Running locally not only helps keeping costs Aug 18, 2024 9:11 PM

Public AWS GPU-Optimized Deep Learning AMI Pre-Built with Lots of Thingshttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12840575https://github.com/Miej/GoDeeperHey guys, just thought some of you might enjoy this.I've set up an community AMI on aws that I've done a simul-build of a lot of the bleeding-edge releases of some of the most popular machine learning/deep learning packages/modules around. Some hilights: p2.xlarge NVIDIA Tesla K80 Ubuntu 14.04 CUDA 8.0 cuDNN 5.1 OpenCV 3.1 Spark 2.0 Caffe 1.0 Tensorflow Theano Keras Torch 7 Microsoft CNTK V2 R Scala JuliaI went through a lot of headaches getting this set up, so hopefully this can help newcomers in the field of ML/DL get their feet wet with some code in different systems/languages without any of the hassle of dependency version conflicts and source build seg faults :DEnjoy!-miejOct 31, 2016 8:19 PM
