I’m hearing a lot of good and bad ideas about how to organize around safety and paced development, but I haven’t heard these ideas yet and wanted to share them here in hopes that some discussion might take place or someone with reach steals them.1. Much of the xrisk discussion hinges on embodied AI. Robots with arms and legs are robots that can kill, displace jobs, etc. All manufacturing of such robotics should come along with a mandatory registration, annual inspections, and functional kill switch that anyone can operate like a fire alarm.2. Rapid model advancement, especially recursive self-improvement, sounds like the center of risk but it really isn’t. A merely more sophisticated model doesn’t make it inherently have more agency. Kimi-code not performing wellhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49111792I managed to get a subscription to kimi and have been running kimi-code for the last few hours, having imported my claude-code skills, settings etc into it.I pointed it at a JS and python codebase I have been working on and asked it to review and refactor, then I got it to add some features - and boy, I am not impressed.TBH it looks the part with the running commentary it makes, but it seems to make some dumb mistakes.Compared to claude-code it is slow, time consuming, hungry on the tokens and multiple times it told me it was done and the app could not even start.I explicitly, and without any ambiguity, have standing orders that there is no type of silent failure that is acceptable in the current foreseen lifetime of our universe, and it still embedded a bunch of them in what was a relatively small amount of code I got it to generate.I am just not seeing that it comes close to claude-code running Anthropic models, based on this one particular codebase I have tried it on so far.Jul 30, 2026 3:55 PM

I believe that whenever possible we should use the stuff we already own (like our Mac laptops, decent machines gathering dust, our gaming PC) and the limited electrical power we have easy access to, like the socket in the wall next to most of us. We shouldn't have to send our data to the cloud hoping some T&C will prevent it from being used in a way that we'd regret. Most of the local AI solutions are technical, involved, and land a curious body in some package hell. People are optimizing for one system and not another, the fun stuff is on PC if you own a Mac, and on Mac if you own a PC.So mere.run was my choice to begin to patch many of those things that I saw as problematic.
