Show HN: ChickenButt a Native GTK Chat Client for Ollama on Linuxhttps://www.chickenbutt.dev/What's up, ChickenButt?I made a free, native GTK client called ChickenButt. :)It lets you chat with local models through Ollama, and I figured some of you might get a kick out of it.Here's the repo: https://github.com/pixelhackstudios/ChickenButtI've always hated reading long text in the terminal, and I couldn't find anything that ran locally that allowed me to get quick answers from LLMs when I needed them. Also, not everyone has access to the frontier models and whatnot, so I thought helping people who only have access to more cost-effective AI would be a fun way to contribute to the FOSS community. So, I built ChickenButt! It was really fun to build, and I wanted to share it.Enjoy! :)Aug 21, 2026 11:12 PM

Show HN: Traccia - Observability, Runtime Control & Audit for agentshttps://traccia.ai/AI applications are becoming agents, which has started to take autonomous decisions. There are plenty of tools and platform available to trace, and observe what an agent or llms calls does. They are good in what they do, but tracing and observability isnt enough for AI agents era. We need a solution that can help you observe, evaluate, create run time policies to govern and finally audit the actions of the agent. We built Traccia to solve this problem. The good part, all of these can be achieved by just writing few lines of code. Traccia has an open-sourced sdk that can work with your existing observability tool like grafana, tempo, jaeger, etc. In case you need more than just observability, Traccia provides the platform to evaluate, control and audit the agents. The platform is easy to use. The product's documentation is quite extensive. It is also cloud vendor and framework agnostic. Traccia is being built by an Indian start up ,based out of Bengaluru. Show HN: Chipmunk – Desktop Log Viewer Written in Rust and Eguihttps://github.com/esrlabs/chipmunkHi,I just want to share the results of re-writing the front-end and application layer for Chipmunk logs-viewer desktop application. The app was originally an electron app with rust backend as node-module. The re-write replaced all electron and javascript with rust using egui framework. The re-write took me about 6 months, where I encountered multiple architectural challenges to work with an immediate rendering framework and connect it to an async backend running on tokio without using Mutex to avoid any potential dead-locks issue in the future. Please have a look to the demos of the app on GitHub and feel free to ask me questions about the re-write or using Rust and egui in production applications.Aug 21, 2026 2:19 PM

Receive calls only from saved contactshttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49383219Hello folks, I built an app to block calls from non saved contacts, it works for Android.I live in Brazil, and at least here the situation with spam and bot calls is pretty bad, some days you can get calls from unknown numbers constantly. If someone wants to talk to me, they can usually reach me asynchronously (email or whatsapp) and I answer when I can/want. If it’s urgent, the people I care about enough to receive an immediate phone call from are generally already saved in my contacts. So Fone1 does one thing: when enabled, it blocks calls from numbers that aren’t saved in your contacts.I know this usage pattern definitely isn’t for everyone, but if you feel similarly, I’d love for you to try it and share feedback. It’s free and has no ads.If you are an Android user and wants to test, just send me your email so I can add you to list of testers.Aug 21, 2026 3:01 AM

Show HN: Zero () friction local AI for Machttps://www.basecompute.co/localSuper excited to launch our new app Local today. What we’ve learned at Base Compute over the last months is that running AI directly on your laptop or workstation gives you maximum privacy and it’s free, but it’s also a massive headache to configure. So we’ve decided what matters is making the experience completely frictionless for users.Local analyses the hardware of your laptop, optimises the AI for it, and recommends the best models for your specific device. It let’s you do what you’re doing with cloud AI already, just for free and on your own machine: Chatting with PDF’s, Recording and summarising meetings, running coding agents...If you’re using Local in your office with colleagues, you can run it in “Office Mode”. The strongest computer in your office runs the AI and everyone can connect to it with their laptop. The data never leaves the office. It’s available for download on our website today, please try it out and let us know what you think!Aug 20, 2026 10:13 PM

Show HN: Excuse My French – an Open Source French-learning apphttps://excusemyfrench.org/hi HN! Many years ago (in 2018) I wrote a simple French-learning exercise generator in Javascript for my wife. I was looking for a way to generate as many exercises as possible for her to practice. The idea was being able to generate a huge combination of sentences and being able to transform them deterministically based on French grammar rules. The generation and transformation is rule-based (no LLMs back then). For example, we generate (using rule-based) :> Je mange une pommethen we ask the engine to transform it to past and replace the pronoun:> Je l'ai mangéeThen we compare with the user's answer.I recently picked the project back up, thanks to AI coding tools and some free time I improved the UI, added more conventional bits (flashcards, dictation, progress tracking, etc). I kept the core of it: the rule-based sentence generator, because it allows to generate extremely fast locally and in a controlled way.I pushed this new version on the same repository : https://github.com/CelebioAug 20, 2026 3:54 PM
