Show HN: Unofficial cross-platform Shure MV clienthttps://github.com/Humblemonk/shurectl(Disclosure: This tool makes my repo obsolete. I am not the code author.)A few years ago, I used Wireshark to sniff and decode the protocol for the Shure MVX2U, a USB/3.5mm adapter for professional microphones. Shure did not have a method for changing adapter settings in Linux or Android, and I didn't have a Windows/Mac computer, so I wrote a CLI client in Python plus an Android app. The CLI tool had a few small bugs, and I could never figure out how to change settings in one endpoint, monitor the audio endpoint in the Python script, and listen in a different app at the same time. This didn't bother me much, because the main goal was for my partner and I to adjust mic gain (auto gain and compression were less-than-ideal) and toggle phantom power from our phones for music and theater projects.(I've since switched to a heavily modified Zoom F3 with direct-connect Schoeps CMC1 amps in M/S configuration; it's nearly the same dimensions/weight, a drastically lower noise floor, onboard recor

Show HN: Appaca – AI Workspace for Operatorshttps://www.appaca.ai/Appaca is my third pivot.A couple of years ago, I started working on an idea on no-code platform that generates code. The goal is to help devs and agencies ship products faster for their clients. I went through Antler startup accelerator and got initial funding. I was working on the right problem, but wrong solution. Instead of no-code, I should have jumped into LLM a lot earlier. I felt defeated when Lovable, Base44, and Bolt came out strong, showing the world what LLMs can do in software development. No one cared about my product anymore.I pivoted my startup second time after that, to an AI agent builder for businesses. After my first MVP launched, I got some decent tractions with that. A lot of people wanted to make AI agents that they can monetise. So, I focused on making a platform that helps them build and ship monetisable AI agents. The product made some revenues, but the churn was super high. Later, more mature companies like Zapier and N8N started their AI agents. My competito

Show HN: A privacy-first tool to email your MP about Canada's surveillance billhttps://stopc22.ca/Bill C-22 (the "Lawful Access Act") just passed Canada's House of Commons and is headed to the Senate. It mandates metadata retention and lets the government compel companies to weaken encryption.stopc22.ca makes pushing back take less than 60 seconds: enter a postal code, it'll find your MP via Open North's Represent API, and hands you a pre-written email, a phone script, and the official petition link (if your Canadian and care about your privacy, SIGN THIS at the least).A few decisions HN might care about:- No accounts, no user database, no analytics scripts. The email is composed and sent via a mailto: link from the user's own client — their name and message never touch my server. Nothing to leak. - Laravel + Livewire + Tailwind on Coolify (FrankenPHP). Only state is a 24h cache of postal → MP lookups so I'm not hammering a nonprofit's API.It's deliberately the opposite of the bill it opposes. Feedback on the approach welcome, especially the mailto deliverability tradeoffs and the

Show HN: MCP Server for a UK Meat Price Comparison Sitehttps://meat.offer-spider.comPosted previously about the price scraping site I pulled together that matches meat from a variety of online butchers to an internal shared taxonomy to make it easier to see what's actually a good price vs. a temporary price fluctuation.I've now got over a year of data so there are some interesting patterns appearing in various product offerings (some of it seasonal, some of it as expected appears to be reactionary to price changes on competitors).I just wanted to get the best price for meat that I enjoy smoking on my Kamado, but it got a little out of hand, so now there's a full on basket comparison (get the cheapest basket in one shop for your chosen products) and grouped cut analysis over time (to see how price is changing and if it's genuinely a good price right now).Because it seems like everyone's doing it these days (and UI is so painful to craft and keep up to date), added an MCP server so you can ask your AI about the data directly instead of clicking around the site. Show HN: An open source app for navigating CS conferenceshttps://github.com/CuriousG102/conference-plannerHey HN,I wrote a single app that pulls all of a conference's workshops, talks, papers, and posters into one place. You can search everything, star what you care about, and sync across devices with a passcode. When I went to CVPR this year, I was annoyed that I couldn't find talks from all ~150 workshops in a single place. Papers could be pulled from Scholar Inbox, but then they wouldn't live alongside workshops. I decided to build my own app with Claude Code and push it to Cloudflare. I used my own experience & feedback from friends and colleagues to refine it along the way. It's open source - feel free to clone my app and adapt it for your next conference! Even better if you pay it forward and host an instance for other attendees.Live demo (CVPR 2026): https://cvpr2026.mileshutson.workers.devCoolest hidden feature: Use agent workflows to choose papers that match your tastes, then use the app's import feature to get a "Robot picks" tab.

Ask HN: What surprised you about Estonia e-Residency and running an Estonian OÜ?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48673801From the official information online, joining the e-Residency program and setting up an Estonian company seems relatively straightforward.I'm considering using an Estonian OÜ for a SaaS business and would love to hear from people who have actually gone through the process. What surprised you after becoming an e-resident and establishing your company? Were there recurring costs, compliance requirements, banking/payment issues, tax complications, or other operational challenges you didn't anticipate? How easy has it been to run the company remotely? Have you ever needed to travel to Estonia to resolve an issue?Looking back, would you do it again? What do you wish you had known before getting started?I'd appreciate any lessons learned, gotchas, or advice from current or former e-residents.

Thoughts on Asimovian AI Beyond LLMs and Creative Machineshttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48671659Asimovian AI is the ideal AI that should have emerged in an ideal universe — the AI intended to replace the grueling pains and labors of the masses, not the one striving to become a businessman's utopia of intellectual worker replacement.Intention is the most important aspect of any implementation, and we are seeing the results of current AI implementation right in front of us: workers getting sacked with each passing day, humanity competing with itself day in and day out over who impresses their superiors more on these token metrics, emerging glorious narratives of how AI will be 'The Future', the recurring advice of 'Use AI or perish in the tech market'. Now who really gains from these events and who loses? I wonder if anyone ever gives serious thought to this broader question or just keeps being a cog in the corporate wheel like everyone else. It's high time we pushed the "Pause AI" button right now and take a breather and reflect a bit on what exactly is going on here. And no, no bi

Ask HN: What do you do to save tokens?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48669496Lots of products working on saving-tokens-space. Compression, Tool Output rewrite, Sitting as proxy Cache between harness and provider , doing circus with interceptor hooks - these are some of the approaches we are seeing today. In my tests, honest conclusion from repeated observations is that the tangible results are possible only by reducing Turns upfront in an agentic loop. Turns saved in first 25% of an otherwise 40 turn loop can produce significant gains - than turns saved in the latter 50% of the same loop. I don't think I need to explain it here - the compounding context. From that observation, shouldn't there be a lot more energy put into tool engineering (that all other xyz engineering) ?

Ask HN: Where is the programming profession going?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48668199I had been running a small (3 people) software company for about 4 years. Since closing down, I recently hung out at a friend's company to see what they were working on (15 ppl). To preface: I'm a heavy user of Claude (rarely write code by hand), but what I'm seeing in person has been rather shocking to me, and I wanted to calibrate with others. In particular: - the code is not the source of truth anymore; it's ask claude to write, and ask claude to explain - LoC, abstractions, and all those "software development principles" does not seem to matter to people - Code review is not done by humans - Actually understanding the problem deeply seems to be offloaded to claude - Some developers are running like 5+ simultaneous claude sessions, and no code is being looked at - Explosion of llm-generated testsFirst off, is this similar to what's going on at your company? If this company is representative, it feels like software development is going from a precise occupation that requires high degre
