But if we boil it down, it’s all basically just very sophisticated pattern matching. Let’s say you ask AI to write a piece of code, there’s a good chance that the data it was trained on had the exact same problem solved in many different ways. i.e. the algorithm for merge sort.But let’s say you ask it something fairly unique i.e. a specific domain modeling of your new business. It’s quite possible that it hasn’t seen those exact requirements before but it is able to deduce your intentions from fairly close examples it’s seen before and still able to give you a well rounded answer. I’m sure that in the latter case the output will vary quite a bit between the runs but still, mostly, it can give you what you’re looking for or point you in the right direction for the very least.Now, let’s assume that there’s something that it truly doesn’t know anything about. It also features a very minimal framework called AMPS (Automatically Mounted Packaging System) which mounts an external drive that functions as the non-volatile storage part of the OS. System configurations, applications/scripts etc. are all stored inside the /storage/AMPS directory. Since the base system is running on RAM, when the system is rebooted, the whole system gets wiped clean. But the external storage and configurations stay intact, allowing you to load your configurations easily.To access and edit these configurations, several custom TUI tools were made so the user doesn't have to mess around in /storage/AMPS/e

After 30 mins of waffling, I realised it is quite a long and interesting story, with many twists and turns.I've always wanted to create a 'long scroll' story, but have never found a suitable story to tell. This felt like a fun weekend project to undertake.The story itself doesn't have too many scroll effects (which is probably a good thing), it was more about trying to tell a story with a certain style that wouldn't really fit on my personal blog.Would love to get your feedback on the content and / or presentation.AI Usage Notice: I used AI to help research the content, but the story itself was written entirely by me. Trained across 46 phases experimenting with different ideas to improve the model (better performance, smaller size).Its quite fun to watch the model attempt to solve the maze, when they fail its usually due to getting stuck in a loop. The models have no access to coordinates, map-data, or external memory scratches - they must navigate using only immediate local neighbourhood observations.There is a model dropdown and you can see how the model has progressed over each phase, constantly getting smaller and increasing its solve rate. Total trained models number in the thousands - I just expose the winning models from each phase.Overall

I've built our family's financial system (it started as a simple budgeting tool, but now it tracks everything), a Mac app to create and edit videos, quite a few developer tools for personal use, a bunch of apps for my kids, some games, and so forth.All of these already have plenty of commercial offerings in the market, and some have open-source alternatives, but the level of personalization I get by building them myself beats any argument (IMHO)!Interested to see what others are doing. :)PS: I've been writing software for 8 years (5 of them professionally).

Now they have added a layer of AI automation whereby any support e-mail receives an automated AI reply to which you have to reply to escalate to a human. Unfortunately that loop is broken. I never get a human into the loop at all (they must be so surprised and happy that their support backlogs have gotten so short! The app is still going but:- I just realised that it will disappear from apple's store when I let my developer sub lapse (greedy bastards!) - I chose the name poorly and now it's not available in the US after I got a C&D letter for a TM infringement (greedy bastards!) - Nigerian scammers signed up and started harassing some of the easy targets (greedy bastards!) - AI slop clone apps have already popped up, copied down to the screen layout and all (complete with the vomit inducing websites with the rainbow colours and all) (greedy bastards!)So if I want to keep this hobby

One of the painful aspects of large projects consisting of dozens of packages has been the individual READMEs for each package, with lots of repetitive elements but also a great deal of necessary package-specific variation.Now, before anyone asks, I don't want to just have an LLM generate my READMEs. People are increasingly sensitive to AI slop, and that certainly starts with a project's README: slop is readily recognizable through LLMs' lack of good judgment on README contents. More isn't always better: "If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter" and all that.I believe that at this point given widespread, complex formatting of READMEs, what with CI badges, headers, footers, tables, images, inline HTML, etc, etc, we've in any case realistically drifted quite far from the original human-readable vision of Markdown as such.
