Show HN: Hatchet v1 – A task orchestration platform built on Postgreshttps://github.com/hatchet-dev/hatchetHey HN - this is Alexander from Hatchet. We’re building an open-source platform for managing background tasks, using Postgres as the underlying database.Just over a year ago, we launched Hatchet as a distributed task queue built on top of Postgres with a 100% MIT license (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39643136). The feedback and response we got from the HN community was overwhelming. In the first month after launching, we processed about 20k tasks on the platform — today, we’re processing over 20k tasks per minute (>1 billion per month).Scaling up this quickly was difficult — every task in Hatchet corresponds to at minimum 5 Postgres transactions and we would see bursts on Hatchet Cloud instances to over 5k tasks/second, which corresponds to roughly 25k transactions/second. As it turns out, a simple Postgres queue utilizing FOR UPDATE SKIP LOCKED doesn’t cut it at this scale. After provisioning the largest instance type that CloudSQL offers, we even discussed potentially moving

Show HN: Tapotron – An iOS game where you just tap buttonshttps://apps.apple.com/us/app/tapotron-input-required/id6738282470I made a game for iOS called TAPOTRON. It's a game where you tap buttons. That's all. But wait – there's more! It's actually 16(!) buttons in a grid! You can tap them as fast as you can, slow and zen-like or in sequence. Three exciting game modes! In addition there are some secondary buttons to tap too. Like switching themes, view stats and leaderboards and even a settings-button!All jokes aside. The concept is stupid simple, that's why I've tried to do the UI as fun as possible with inspiration from favorite retro electronics and implement haptics and satisfying sound and music. I've included a mascot called TAPTRONBOT that will encourage you with messages. You can also engage "Bad Robot Mode" and TAPOTRONBOT will be slightly disappointed and bored with you.So you tap buttons and it will store your taps, best times, tap streak e t c. You choose a faction to join (I'm "HARD G. GIF" for life!) and your taps will contribute to your faction. You can also watch the global community's taps c

What Are the Dangers of Going to Space? We Asked a NASA Expert: Episode 55https://www.nasa.gov/general/what-are-the-dangers-of-going-to-space-we-asked-a-nasa-expert-episode-55/What are the dangers of going to space? For human spaceflight, the first thing I think about is the astronauts actually strapping themselves to a rocket. And if that isn’t dangerous enough, once they launch and they’re out into space in deep exploration, we have to worry about radiation. Radiation is coming at them from […]

Show HN: Acorn.js – Turn GraphQL APIs into Tools for LLMs and Agentshttps://github.com/DataSQRL/acorn.jsWe built a lightweight Typescript library that turns GraphQL APIs into tool definitions for LLMs like GPT, Claude, and others. It also integrates directly with agentic frameworks like LangChain. To build agents and chatbots, we found ourselves building custom tooling and APIs to pull in information, outsource analytics, and trigger external actions. But wiring that up, doing schema validation, data mapping, retry loops, etc entails tedious boilerplate code. We generalized that code into a library, released it under OSS Apache 2.0, and hope that it helps others build GenAI apps that need to connect data sources, trigger actions, or outsource symbolic reasoning.Would love your feedback and thoughts. Happy to share why we settled on GraphQL for the API (validation, semantic annotations, simple mapping, query flexibility) and also curious what you are using and why.

Show HN: Largest Open Source MCP Repo (280)https://www.activepieces.com/mcpAsh here, founder of Activepieces (open source automation). 2 years ago, we launched Activepieces as the open source Zapier (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34723989). Ever since, we grew total integrations (pieces) to 280 of which 60% were built by our community! Now with the growing popularity of MCP, we built tools around these to turn them into MCP servers. So now every open source integration on Activepieces is an MCP, and we like to think it’s the largest open source MCP repo so far (MIT licensed). With these tools, you can:- Self host the MCP server or use our cloud for free.- Connect any of the 280 tools in your MCP server.- Provide the server to an MCP client (like Claude Desktop, Cursor or Windsurf).- Ask the LLM to take actions! For example, you can ask the LLM to:- Add meetings to your calendar.- Check your tasks on Jira.- Post a tweet for you.In the next few weeks, we’ll make the automation flows available as MCPs too. and we will make MCPs usable by LLMs inside our flow

Show HN: Pressure – a simple 2D board game in JavaScripthttps://ilmenit.github.io/pressure/I'm a fan of minimalistic design and I tried to make an "easy to learn, hard to master" 2D board game.Pressure is played on a 5×5 grid with 12 tokens total. The key mechanic is a "push" feature where tokens can displace entire lines of other tokens if there's an empty space at the end of the line. When opponent tokens are pushed, they become inactive for one turn. Capture occurs when tokens are surrounded on all four sides. After analyzing gameplay data, I found Pressure has an average branching factor of 11.5, which is higher than Othello (10) and Checkers (2.8), though lower than Chess (35). Its game tree complexity is approximately 10^57, placing it remarkably close to Othello (10^58) and much higher than Checkers (10^40), despite the smaller board size. The state space complexity appears to be in the range of 10^20, comparable to Checkers, which is notable given Pressure uses a 5×5 grid versus Checkers' 8×8 board. Chess and Othello have higher state spaces at 10^44 and 10^28 respecti

AI Daily Driver – Privacy and Validityhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43549934While I am on a vocational basis fairly related to the full stack requirements for a local LLM, this has drawn my attention away from paid services and created a blind spot as we were not allowed to use them. I did in a limited capacity, but have transparency issues with them I need other takes on.Reasons for this are not an unwillingness to pay, hence the question.I can't afford a 5090, for multiple reasons. I only need the vRAM truly. I imagine we will start to see massively distorted cards out of NVIDIA and other providers lumping in functionality for 17 other things you didn't need it for, but also recognize the dangers of submitting to the same power on a service basis in response to that. This does change system prompting and I am after a more integrated and studied approach to interacting with them. Just because they are black boxes, does not mean we can't infer even from flimsy bayesian simulation pricniples what is going to happen when I ask it XYZ.This highlights why I do not

Business model dilemmas? Or is it just a hard problem nobody wants to solve right?
