Show HN: Krypter – simple offline message and file encryption mobile apphttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49032780Hi guys, here's a personal privacy app that I've been doing for a few months now.The idea is to have a secure offline way of encrypting messages and data on your device using HPKE and a selection of encryption key types, including Secure Enclave bound ones, to protect the data in transit or at rest. As in, encrypt and optionally sign, send by any means, and only have your designated recipient (or yourself) read it. Messages can be shared as deep links for one click decryption with automated quick key probing. Files - same, but via import from anywhere. No permission requests, no analytics, no accounts, no ads, no subscriptions, absolutely zero online requests. No "make your own crypto" silly things. Everything is using the iOS bundled CryptoKit. Hence the tiny size of it.Authenticated mode also supports passwords in addition to signatures. Panic PIN wipes all the keys from the app. Software keys can be securely backed up. Full plausible deniability. For example, a message can be transmitJul 24, 2026 8:31 AM

Show HN: Grounded-forge: RAG with summaries and task views precomputed at ingesthttps://github.com/chrisgagne/grounded-forgeHi everyone,I've been working on a knowledge retrieval system that can create distributable applications for several months and I'd love to share it with you!The issue I've found with asking LLMs for advice is that they are trained on a large corpus of text but don't have much discernment. It's even worse when you ask a question like "What is Agile?" Agile is an emergent property of strong leadership and a compatible organisation design, not a methodology to shove down people's throats. However, an LLM is more likely to trend towards methodology-shoving answers. Asking for business advice is likely to result in what a March 2026 Harvard Business Review study called "trendslop." (https://hbr.org/2026/03/researchers-asked-llms-for-strategic...) LLMs are good with language, not discernment, and more language does not equate to more truth.I also needed a way to mentor globally distributed teams, especially when time zones made real-time support hard (I live in New Zealand and had clients iJul 23, 2026 8:46 PM

Ask HN: What verb best describes what a developer does in 2026?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49027642Before agents entered the scene, the answer was obvious: A developer "writes" or "creates" software. While software craftsmen mourned the death of their craft, reality moved on. In February 2025, Andrej Karpathy ingeniously coined the term "vibe coding" (which hit Merriam-Webster as a slang term shortly after) to describe the shift from hand-writing code to steering the agent. But the honeymoon didn't last. Amateurs quickly ruined the vibe when their weekend projects got routinely annihilated upon hitting production, finally giving vibe-coding a bad rep.Admitting to agent authorship feels honest, but also sounds like a confession and does nothing to build a professional identity: "I wrote this with the help of [Agent]." or "I let [Agent] write this."Brand-derived verbs feel clumsy:* I clankered* I clauded / I claudified* I codexedMy best shots so far:* I tokencrafted"* I vibecrafted"So, what verb do you use to describe your daily grind or agent management? Show HN: CobaltCode – Dedicated persistent computer for Codexhttps://cobaltcode.ai/Hi HN,I'm building CobaltCode, a platform for running coding agents inside persistent development environments.Basically I was fed up with git worktrees and having to run everything locally, usually one at a time so built CobaltCode.ai. Each task gets an separate vm with its own repository checkout, dependencies, running services, agent session, previews, and persistent state. It can also run your app inside the vm so you can preview different features in parallel. You can leave a task, resume it later, or save the computer as a reusable starting point. The agent is a full-fledged Codex that runs without limits in the sandbox and can run commands, modify files, start applications, and expose browser previews from inside the isolated environment. It uses your OpenAI subscription so you don't pay for tokens in CobaltCode and the product is currently free while I'm trying to figure out how useful it is.CobaltCode currently supports OpenAI Codex in PROD and I am also adding Cursor Agent, ClaJul 23, 2026 8:06 PM

Show HN: Notebooker.ai – NotebookLM alternative, your own models, keys, storagehttps://notebooker.ai/Hi HN. This is a personal side project I've been building for about six months on top of the open-source Open Notebook platform (https://github.com/lfnovo/open-notebook).Notebooker saves the stuff you'd otherwise lose in tabs and bookmarks - links, PDFs, audio, video - and makes it useful later: chat with a notebook and get answers that cite the exact source, turn a reading list into a podcast episode (private RSS feed, works in any player), or generate study material from your own sources. The part I've had the most fun with is a plugin engine for creation types - flashcards, charts, infographics, mindmaps, textbooks, essays, slideshows, timelines, wikis are each plugins, and new ones can be added without touching the core. Everything I've built on top of open-notebook has either been submitted upstream as PRs or is open source at https://github.com/Notebooker-ai.Decisions this crowd might care about:- Bring your own AI keys (OpenAI, Anthropic, local/OpenAI-compatible endpoints) or useJul 23, 2026 7:02 PM

Wanted to scan HN pages faster ,that rosonates to me.For me it is easy to grasp if they are in the order of software stack (Hardware, System, Infrastructure, apps, and so on ).Built this chrome plugin that uses Gemini model, to classify. It works but, classification still not great. It is built using claude code cli.on my Mac book pro, Gemini nano model loading takes around 11 seconds, and classification it self takes around 5 seconds. (if sub classification enabled it adds 6 more seconds approx). Model loaded in background thread. And unloads, if not used after 30 seconds. I would say still not pretty usable, without optimized classification time, but it works, to experiment with.Jul 23, 2026 3:20 PM

When looking around, pay attention to unintuitive relativistic effects: rays bending around the black hole, and special relativistic "Doppler boosting" changing brightness depending on the viewing angle — zoom out to see the fast jet where the latter effect is especially pronounced. Faint markers show where other viewers are standing right now.Alternatively, put the black hole in front of your camera and watch it lens your actual surroundings.
