Seven missions launched to test optimised data transfer from spaceEight CubeSats and one payload supported by the European Space Agency (ESA) reached orbit, where they will demonstrate various applications aimed at improving how data is sent around and processed. Thanks to these demonstrations, practical and – sometimes – even life-saving data enabled from space will move more efficiently and reach the right actors on time in the future.

The danger of using "Hide My Email" with third-party Stripe handoffsIMAGE

The danger of using "Hide My Email" with third-party Stripe handoffsIf you use Apple's "Hide My Email" on a platform that hands you off to Stripe (like BuyMeACoffee), you might get permanently locked out of your Stripe account. Here is how the systems fail when combined:1. I signed up for BuyMeACoffee using "Sign in with Apple" and chose to hide my email. Apple created a `@privaterelay.appleid.com` address.2. BuyMeACoffee initiated a Stripe Express onboarding flow and passed that Private Relay email to Stripe as my primary contact.3. Stripe requires email verification to process payouts, so they sent a verification link.4. According to Apple's docs, Private Relay addresses only accept emails from the original developer (BuyMeACoffee). Apple silently drops the email from Stripe.5. Because Apple doesn't bounce the email, Stripe assumes it was delivered and refuses to let you proceed until you click the link.I am currently stuck in Stripe support hell because of this. Even though I have completed full KYC with Stripe (passport, mobile number) and phone sup

NASA’s Hubble Detects First-Ever Spin Reversal of Tiny CometAstronomers using NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope have found evidence that the spinning of a small comet slowed and then reversed its direction of rotation, offering a dramatic example of how volatile activity can affect the spin and physical evolution of small bodies in the solar system. This is the first time researchers have observed evidence […]

Musk wants to go to the moon. But how will he build his ‘self-growing city’?It goes without saying that we shouldn’t take everything Elon Musk says too seriously. There are whole websites dedicated to those times when he has ‘talked the talk’ but failed to ‘walk the walk’ — as well as those times when he has been factually untrue. But his latest claim, which is that he will […] The post Musk wants to go to the moon. But how will he build his ‘self-growing city’? appeared first on SpaceNews.
Tell HN: Llamacpp now supports unified system RAM offloading on LinuxIMAGE

Tell HN: Llamacpp now supports unified system RAM offloading on LinuxI'm a big fan of on-device AI inference for a million reasons, especially its potential to significantly reduce or even potentially eliminate the need for massive AI data center projects in the United States. But so far, the only place I've gotten that to work was on Windows by abusing the living heck out of its GPU shared virtual memory management with llamacpp. And since Windows isn't exactly the best OS these days, I've been looking at alternatives.Recent changes in the core llamacpp code, the Linux kernel, the new "open" Nvidia driver, and CUDA 13 have finally enabled similar behavior on supported Linux based operating systems. I've tested the compilation on two distros and have confirmed that Unified/Heterogeneous Memory Management is finally working!https://github.com/ggml-org/llama.cpphttps://docs.nvidia.com/cuda/cuda-installation-guide-linux/index.htmlA note of caution though: Nvidia's setup guide does not account for Secure Boot. Ubuntu and RHEL have pre-signed drivers in thei
