Ask HN: Am I the only one who gets temple pain during prolonged calls?I don't believe in the whole phones cause cancer thing, but I also cannot deny what I am experiencing. Here are some more details:- I experience this during phone calls of duration > 25 minutes or so.- I keep my phone maybe 10 cm away from my temple.- I experience the discomfort on the side where I am listening at the very front of my forehead.- The discomfort remains for some time after calling. I am still feeling it and I have ended the call more than 15 minutes ago.- The discomfort feels like a sporadically pulsating vein and also similiar to when I get a headache from being dehydrated (could that be it?)- I happens both with WIFI calling (VOIP?) and over LTE.- I don't experience this while using WIFI or LTE data for prolonged hours.- I experienced this throughout my whole life; throughout every generation of phone (I'm I millennial).- I lived for many years in an apartment facing a phone antenna who was just 20 meters away at most, and I did no experience additional discomfort than

Ask HN: Can we still run mobile computers off AA batteries?This question came out of a lunchtime conversation with some colleagues, none of us who work in hardware or embedded: there was a period of time, up to the late 90s, where certain mobile computers and PDAs could be run off AAs for a long period of time, with sacrifices of I/O, display fidelity, and storage. Ask HN: How to become less privacy obsessed?It all started innocently enough by installing uBlock origin. That made casual browsing faster in addition to a better experience. At this point privacy wasn't a big concern.Adblocking extensions didn't work well on my mobile device, so I set up a pi-hole on my home network. Again, that made browsing the internet seem faster and extended the "better experience" to any device on the network. I think this is what really planted the seed: look at all this information I _had been_ leaking to my DNS provider! At least now I had a local cache that would work across my entire home network and reduce 99% of external DNS lookups. And this was the first cost: others on my home network would complain that "links don't work anymore" (ads), so I had to explain how to temporarily disable pi-hole. It was an eye-opener because the air quality fluctuated pretty dramatically throughout the day based on what whether someone was frying something in the kitchen, or the windows were open, someone downstairs was smoking, etc.Now I want to purchase a monitor for our small apartment, but after 3 hours of searching I haven't found any that seem worth buying. I'm after something that will detect CO2, PM2.5, and VOCs. It should have some data logging/alerting/reporting capabilities as well either via Bluetooth or WiFi.I'm aware of some models like Awair rev.2, AirVisual Pro aka "Node", and uHoo, Netatmo, and Airthings. Ask HN: Bonding Internet ConnectionsHi Guys - I'm based in Australia and have slow ADSL2+ (4Mb/1Mb down/up). I live semi rural so have limited to no mobile reception. I can get 'skymuster' which is a satellite connection that should provide about 20Mb down. That said I've has mixed reviews like it 1) stops working in heavy rain plus 2) accounts are limited to 200bg and I probably use double that in a month and 3) I run my mobile calls over wifi so worried about the latency of satellite only.I’ve started looking at signing up to both services to get the best of both and bonding these 2 connections. The solution to bond connections that keeps showing up is Speedify. There doesn’t seem to be a huge amount of options for a non-technical person like me. I'm wondering if people have any recommendations on the best way to bond 2 internet connections?

Ask HN: What to do with a new technology that allows much better voice quality?I created a proof of concept audio calling mobile app which provides much better voice quality under bad network conditions than most existing Apps (Skype, Viber, WhatsApp, etc.). It is demonstrably much better than what exists today and fixes those annoying metallic noises you hear when your WiFi connection is bad and you cannot hear your peer properly. With my codec the voice stays almost crystal clear and the other performance characteristics are still very good (low latency, bandwidth used, etc).The question is what next? I have a pretty busy day job and created this on my spare time on weekends. Now I need to decide what my next steps are.Some of the options I have:1. Build a production audio calling App and release it. This requires funding, team, time and infrastructure and I will need to quit my job.
