Words are his own.Superposition and entanglement get thrown around loosely, and when people ask me which one causes the most trouble, the honest answer is that the biggest problem is not really a misunderstanding of either. It is more of an ambiguity. People say that a quantum computer tests all solutions simultaneously and then selects the right one, and that is not literally correct. But it is also not the clean error it looks like.The confusion almost certainly traces back to the most famous quantum computing algorithm there is, which is Shor's algorithm, discovered by Peter Shor in the early nineties. Shor's algorithm is the one that would allow us to decrypt RSA and other asymmetric key based encryption methods. It achieves a shortcut to factoring a very large number down to its primes, and that factoring problem is the basis for most modern encryption.The wAug 6, 2026 5:00 PM

So I built a scoreboard that checks: it takes the forecasts each model published (ECMWF, GFS, ICON, AIFS and others, plus Apple Weather, Foreca, OpenWeather and Visual Crossing), waits for the weather to happen, and scores temperature, wind and rain against observations.A few things that surprised me: - AIFS performs very well, yet almost no commercial apps give you access to it or uses it in their blend (I suspect some do without disclosing it tho) - Foreca scores surprisingly well compared to other apps and raw models - ICON is very accurate around the mediterranean, but performs quite poor everywhere elseThere's also a history page that scores each model back through its full archive (about 5 years for GFS) to see if forecasts have actually gotten better.It's a static page and open-source: https://github.com/NickLeenders/verisky-scoreboard. Homes are allocated off a waitlist, dues are set on a sliding scale, and you face outside pressures from neighboring capitalist landlords.The crown jewel is attracting a large grant to establish an observatory at the top of your tower, attracting scientists. To get there, you must make sure the people are fed, housed, healthy, and entertained. If the Assembly doesn't have confidence in your abilities, you get voted out.It kinda works, and the potential failures in the game are pretty unique. I'd be interested to hear HN's take. It is now exceptionally slow.Searches, especially at 2am Eastern (a favourite time for night owls to work) take upwards of 10 to 15 seconds to return. Yet these are also peppered with endless capchas, which sometimes require a checkbox but also 'what is a car', and 'is that a bike' nonsense.Yet we've seen over and over again, how LLMs can easily pass these tests. I feel what I'm seeing here is more of Google's collapse. Creating horrible search experiences for humans, without actually resolving any possible issues they're having with bots. And it wouldn't be so bad, except these are repeatedly shown to the end user. Each search.
