Reasoning prefills on a few open modelshttps://gist.github.com/wsxiaoys/102e8654c14d5d27b7b77532026ebfa5I wrapped this small followup to stolen-thoughts.com in a gist for easier reading and wanted to share it here.My hunch is that this might not just be reasoning distillation; it could even be benchmark distillation. This is a small experiment and definitely doesn’t prove anything about how any model was trained, but I thought the contrast was interesting enough to share.I’d also like to try glm-5.3, but it isn’t fully available across the model-serving platforms I use yet. If I get around to running it and the results are interesting, I’ll share them later.

Why I prefer Opus 5 to Fable 5https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49081970I've been experimenting with both since the moment each came out. 4 games, 3 websites and 2 content creation engines later - I think I'm ready to share a bit of my experience and opinion.WHAT I'VE NOTICED ABOUT FABLE1. Gold in, gold out - meaning I've had the best results by making all my design decisions before giving Fable the kickoff information and prompt. It's much more comfortable making decisions by itself - decisions it won't tell you about - unless you explicitly tell it what it can and can't decide for itself up front.2. It's a black box - which is an extention of the point above in a way. I've used the analogy of an agency when I've described it to people, i.e. it'll take a brief (what Fable itself describes as "an order") and go off and run with it, only coming back once it's done. I once had a Fable conversation work independently for 9 hours buidling out a client self-service portal for me. All I had to do was type 'Continue' once it hit its session limits every 5 hours.3

I'd prefer to avoid AI comments on Reddit and HNhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48935371We're all experiencing it. Are you replying to AI right now?So I was thinking. The LLMs solve problems. Compulsively.I'm wondering about leaving problems behind in comments that are slightly human-time-consuming. If the comment-replier solves it then blergh you're chatting with AI. If the entity didn't detect the puzzle or couldn't be arsed solving it, then hey maybe you're talking with a real person.Ok, any measure like this is only temporarily effective.I'm trying it out with a reddit thread. Someone replied to me with something unfriendly. And their comment history appears incendiary. Might just be a person, or might be a robot. But I've left a super-basic puzzle (poorly) hidden in my response. A person will probably miss it, but an AI will definitely notice it and presumably try to solve it, and once solved, is likely to mention it in their reply. Perhaps.Note: there is no puzzle in this post. Promise. More just an exploration in strategy.

Do YC companies get preference on the homepage?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48923998I'm guessing the answer is yes, but I see a lot of posts about jobs at YC companies that don't seem like they're getting enough attention to be on the homepage. I'm assuming they artificially put them there to help them, but that feels like ads/spam since this is generally used as a forum. If that is the case then admins probably can't do much about it, but it'd be good to keep that in the `jobs` tab or something so it's not cluttering up the news page
