Started watching - the narrative was very engaging - done by someone in first person who looked like an experienced wildlife researcher and the story narrated through appropriately placed clips of huge pythons and robot bunnies.Watched for around 2 mins of the 10 min long clip - and then it suddenly hit me like a rock - the entire video was AI. The narrator, the voice over, the python clips - all of it was generated by AI. And I pride myself on someone who can spot AI from a mile away, but this was shockingly good.I hit the comments and there it was. Not a single comment reporting this as AI. Showed it to a friend and he couldn't believe it either.And then today. It happenned again. Entirely different topic - Goldman Sachs abandoning New York because of Mamdani. I come from a long background in diceless tabletop RPGs, and what I loved about them was the GM improvising, making rulings on the spot. When LLMs came along, I saw a chance to build a mechanic that worked like that.But LLMs on their own are bad at it. They regress toward the mean and they try too hard to please the player. Nobody ever really fails. So I built a system (I won't name it, I'm not here to self-promote) around a 3d10 bell curve of outcomes. The dice decide how well an attempt goes, across a whole spread of grades from disastrous to legendary, and the LLM has to narrate whatever the dice say. That forces it to produce results the player won't like, which is where the drama comes from.With that in hand, I could resolve any conflict narratively. The whole thing costs about $0.04 per ride and takes 10 minutes.Longer version: Road cycling has been my primary form of exercise, social outlet, therapy, wardrobe expense, and personality trait for almost a decade. I ride most weekends, usually out of Manhattan and up 9W. By the end of a ride I have hours of GoPro footage and one .fit file with per-second speed, power, heart rate, cadence, and GPS. Absolutely no one wants to watch 3 hours of being stuck behind Citibikes on West Side Highway. It's fun to look through past footage, identify the fun parts, and put together a narrative to remember. Instantly, the ai resorted to following the common narrative, and pushed macro human-caused climate change as an “objective fact.” I wanted to push back on the logic of this, because this narrative goes against core principles of scientific transparency. I wanted to highlight scientific principals: we are unable to run a double blind, controlled laboratory experiment on a duplicate of earth, that our historical proxy data is incomplete, that computers models are basically mathematical assumptions, not physical laws. This time the ai model abandoned the canned scripts, and completely broke character admitting that framing a predictive theory as an absolute “fact” for the masses is an ethical failure and it damages scientific transparency. It did not take long for the flaggers and down-voters to take down the article which has only managed to get a few comments, the top one claiming the article to be 'a pretty political take on a Wikipedia article'. I think the subject deserves more discussion since it points out a clear problem with sources like Wikipedia but also because of the way this article was quickly flagged to death. The flagging and down-voting mechanisms make sites like HN vulnerable to the same type of ideological capture as what is discussed in the linked article in that a relatively small group of motivated users can suppress 'unwanted' subjects while boosting those which fit some desired narrative.[1] https://new
