Hello Universe: NASA’s Next-Gen Space Processor Undergoes Testinghttps://www.nasa.gov/technology/hello-universe-nasas-next-gen-space-processor-undergoes-testing/NASA’s High Performance Spaceflight Computing project aims to dramatically improve the computing power of spacecraft. Missions need processors that can withstand the harsh space environment, so they use chips developed years ago that are hardy and reliable. But upgraded chips are needed to enable the development of autonomous spacecraft, accelerate the rate of scientific discovery […]May 12, 2026 3:02 PM

Show HN: Inspection Credit – read your inspection, draft the negotiationhttps://www.inspectioncredit.comHi HN. I built Inspection Credit because the inspection-response window in a home purchase is one of the worst-designed parts of the entire transaction. You get a 60 to 90 page inspection report at 11pm. You have 5 days to respond. Half the report is photos of outlets. A third is non-issues. The 3 or 4 things that actually matter are buried on page 47 next to a missing smoke detector. Your inspector legally cannot advise on negotiation. Your agent makes commission when you close, not when you walk. So you decide, alone, in a panic. The product takes the PDF and returns a packet with the negotiable findings, a credit-request letter, an escalation script for seller pushback, walk-away guidance that references your state's standard inspection-response form, and a UPL-defensive disclaimer. $79, refundable if the report turns up nothing worth negotiating.A few engineering notes:(1) The aggregator sites (HomeAdvisor, Fixr, Angi, HomeGuide) disagree by 30 to 50 percent on the same repair scope.May 11, 2026 5:47 PM

Show HN: Objo Studiohttps://objo.devObjo Studio is a new development environment for building desktop and command line apps. It has a visual designer, a debugger, a compiler, and a modern BASIC-like language called ObjoBasic. The aim is simple: make it enjoyable to build real applications for macOS, Windows and Linux and learn how to program.I've been working on Objo Studio in one shape or another since about 2019. I've always loved tools that let you move quickly from idea to working prototype and that abstract a lot of complexity and get out of your way. This has been tried before (VisualBasic, Xojo, etc) but have either been abandoned, become expensive or lost focus on hobbyists. The whole stack is written in C#. There's a custom stack-based VM that is roughly on-par with Python for speed but this is not a high performance tool. It's an all-in-one IDE for visually developing cross-platform desktop apps. It tries to make it simple for users, abstracting runtimes and libraries to help newcomers learn but also let them thMay 11, 2026 3:38 PM

Brown dwarfs are balls of gas the size of Jupiter, less massive than stars. There’s one for every three or four stars near the Sun.May 5, 2026 1:48 PM

Show HN: An Agent First Slack CLIhttps://github.com/tilework-tech/nori-slack-cliHey folks,My team and I have been building a background agents as a service product. One of the things we needed pretty early on was for some way for the agents to be able to drive slack.Right now, I don't think there are many good agent-first ways of doing this. I don't love MCP -- it's just too many tokens in the context window, and agents seem to do better with CLIs because they can embed them in code and so on. But other CLIs that exist are either a) subsets of the web api that only focus on human needs and b) have polished terminal UIs with spinners and colors and interactive things that make it hard for LLMs to actually use them.nori-slack-cli is a very thin dynamic wrapper over @slack/web-api (i.e. bolt). Whatever the SDK can call, the CLI can call. When slack adds a new method it should just work without a new release on our end. (Inspired by the GWS cli: https://github.com/googleworkspace/cli).So you(r agent) can do things like:`nori-slack chat.postMessage --channel C123 --texMay 1, 2026 7:05 PM

NASA’s STORIE Mission to Tell Tale of Earth’s Ring Currenthttps://science.nasa.gov/science-research/heliophysics/nasas-storie-mission-to-tell-tale-of-earths-ring-current/Earth’s magnetic field is like a powerful trap. It lures electrically charged particles in space, near our planet, and snares them in an invisible, doughnut-shaped pen around Earth known as the ring current. This captive swarm of charged particles plays an important role in how Earth reacts to changing conditions in space, called space weather, which […]May 1, 2026 3:31 PM

Ask HN: Macbook or Linux Laptop for devs and heavy users?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47974702Hey everyone, I'm really curious to hear from people who pushes high end MacBooks and Linux laptops to their limits in daily use. I'll share my daily experience with my Linux laptop below, and I'm hoping to use the feedback from those who have been on both sides to decide if I should make the jump to a MacBook in the future. My experience: I'm a web developer doing both frontend and backend. I also do some mobile dev with Flutter. Personally, I prefer using an Android phone and a Linux machine. I'm currently using an Acer laptop with an i7-13700H and 32GB of DDR4 RAM. I got my company to buy it for way cheaper than similar models on the market. While the overall performance is really good for the price, the speakers are absolute trash and the screen is just okay. Here is what's on my mind: Even though I can get about 3-4 hours of coding done on battery, it's obviously nowhere near a MacBook. I don't really need that long battery life most of the time, but it still sounds nice to have. May 1, 2026 1:40 PM
