This is my idea/vision of how a public health infrastrcture could look/work. I decided to focus on the intersection of health and education first because (see below)1: Its an intresting problem that impacts peoples lives in a big way2: I have worked for lots of edtech companies3: I am really into health and wellness4: I was raised by my dad because my mother was in and out of facilities due to mental illess5: Racial Profiling [2] is not my biggest issue, menthal helth isFirst thing I needed to do was understand the problem, current state of things and where I could improve / what metrics etc.. The main problems I see are that... 1: Mental Health is to "reactionary". Something happens, peole focus on it for a week or so then move on. 2: Mental Health servcies dont scale very well under the curent model 3: Not everyone has the same idea of what it means to be menJan 1, 2023 6:27 PM

Show HN: Illa – An open-source alternative to Retoolhttps://github.com/illacloud/illa-builderHey HNs:This is Vincent from the ILLA team. I'm sure you guys see tons of "Open-source" and "Alternative to Retool" these days. I won't deny Retool is a great product, and so are many open-source competitors such as Appsmith, Budibase, Tooljet etc. However, what makes ILLA so special? What advantages does ILLA have that allow users to choose ILLA instead of others?Well, I would like to answer those questions to all folks at HN one by one.First, we are similar to Retool, or Appsmith but we have many different our own features. We are a true open-source project all the folks here can check and review our Code here: https://github.com/illacloud/illa-builder. We believe as developers the basic ethic is to be honest, especially in "open-source" circumstances. You have to be honest with your team, users, and contributors in order to grow. Therefore, we welcome all the contributors from around the world to build ILLA together, this is a promising project and won't let you down. With your code,Nov 20, 2022 5:30 AM

Show HN: A crypto social trading platform that improves Etoro's copy-trade modelhttps://tordess.comHey HN,I was watching an interview of Caroline Ellison (CEO of Alameda Research) the other day and found it interesting that she never uses stoploss (no wonder shit happened). One of the most important skills for traders is how to set up stoploss and stick to it when stoploss is about to hit. I see that most crypto traders don't follow this principle. There is a huge demand for social trading (similar to Etoro) from crypto traders. Fact: 76.2% crypto traders surveyed say that they want to have social trading (copy-trade) features - Source: Statista (2021). There have been multiple attempts from various crypto start-ups (including the ones backed by major crypto exchanges such as Binance or Bybit) trying to build Etoro-equivalent for crypto. However, due to the volatile nature of crypto markets, most of the top traders on such platforms are pure gamblers, who may have luck once in a while. Most of the copiers there cannot obtain sustainable profits from copying the top traders. Users do nNov 15, 2022 10:07 AM

Agile sucks for software development and I’m tired of pretending it doesn’thttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33578928Warning: Unpopular opinion ahead.Agile extremists love to dance around the broken record of: “but Agile is what ‘high-performing’ development teams use”.Is it?According to who? What study? What was the sample size? How long was the study run? What caliber of companies were included in the study? Most importantly, what was the percentage increase in deliverability/speed/efficiency/developer happiness/customer happiness when using agile vs without? These are questions the agile overlords either don’t know or refuse to provide the answer to.Even if said studies exist (hint: quality ones don’t), those studies would likely have been conducted by statisticians who have never worked on a development team, thus making their study unqualified right out of the gate.I don’t know what your definition of high-performance is but my definition would be along the lines of “delivering high-quality software quickly and efficiently”.Now please explain to me what part about spending half the day in meetings ratNov 13, 2022 1:13 AM

Show HN: Resmo – Run SQL, Free Text Search on Cloud and SaaS Configurationshttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33521836Hello, It's been a long time since I made a Show HN, I want to present our startup Resmo, and would love any feedback.- Site: https://www.resmo.com- Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCqT-xUW27IWe've left Atlassian to build Resmo one year ago. In short, we collect configuration data from APIs of cloud providers and 40+ SaaS tools. Main reason is, even properly knowing what you have in all those tools becomes bothersome quickly, we faced it hard with hyper-growth. We make it easy to collect this data, explore it various ways and create rules. Fully-managed.Main features I'd like to higlight are:* Run SQL: You can ask any question limited to your SQL writing creativity. You can query if a SaaS user exists in your IdP at all.* Free text search: Search UUIDs, names, telephone numbers. You won't believe what pops up.* Relations: We automatically map relations between resources, even differnet tools. So your domain in Cloudflare might be poiniting an EC2 Instance.* User discovery: Find Nov 8, 2022 5:44 PM

Ask HN: Is Microsoft trying to destroy Playstation? How is that good for gamers?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33517995Microsoft is buying up major game publishing studios. These studios were formerly developers of cross platform super successful game titles.Microsoft is killing the Playstation titles at these publishers. Is Microsoft aiming to destroy Playstation? Is yes, how is this good for gaming? Is the old hyper competitive, destroy the competition at any cost Microsoft back, in the form of Xbox?I thought we were being led to believe it was a new Microsoft, kinder, more platform agnostic. Why wouldn't Microsoft want to release all its games for Playstation, just a few months later, same way as it develops applications for Macos? What happens if Microsoft "wins", by using its money to own all the most popular game publishers - then there's only one gaming console left? How is that good for gamers? Where's the competition? Why would Microsoft bother releasing another Xbox console after that?Nov 8, 2022 11:12 AM

Show HN: Multilingual Salary Calculator for Germanyhttps://lohntastik.de/gns/gross-net-salary-calculatorMany people from a migrant background have difficulty understanding the German income tax system. Therefore, as a side project, I have created a multilingual gross-net-salary calculator for Germany. With this side project, my main goals are:1. to create an intuitive method for non-German speakers to easily understand how and what is deducted from their gross salary in Germany,2. to translate the calculator into Eastern and Central European languages (as they represent one of the largest groups of migrant workers in Germany) to make it easier for them to understand the German income tax system,3. make it mobile-friendly so that anyone with only a mobile phone can easily use it.I am currently working on translations into Russian and Farsi (based on the requests from several organisations who are working with refugees in Germany), with other languages to follow. The website is already available in the following languages: Arabic, English, German, Hungarian, Romanian, Ukrainian. What do you Nov 7, 2022 11:36 AM

Want to bet the opt out link itself contains tracking/spyware links and wouldnt even open on my Iphone? Some choice cuts from their email:" Your digital badge will be block-chain secured ensuring that your certification status can only be used by you, including for employer verification that your certification is valid. Ask HN: Why don't I see gold at the end of the remote working rainbow?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33259351Saying the following feels like heresy and whenever I say it, fellow software engineers look at me as if I just asked them if there are GOTOs in Javascript.I used to love going to the office. Discussing our team's latest Python problems over a coffee. Looking over at their screen and then asking them why they look like they want to beat someone over the head with their keyboard repeatedly. Guessing people's emotions in a heated Retro from their body language. Grabbing dinner with a few colleagues after a long workshop meeting in the evening and then realizing that, aside from all the differences we might have about static typing in programming languages, we all like the same exotic progressive metal bands. Many of these things that made my job much more than slaving at a digital conveyor belt seem to be gone these days. And the worst thing for me is that I feel few people relate. On the contrary, many are screaming in outrage if asked to come to the office even for a single day a week aOct 19, 2022 8:50 AM
