This kind of software exists at the delightful and weird intersection of simulation, complexity science, education, and gaming. And I want more of it! Of course, there are many things that can be improved but that is not the point of this post.*Background*Basecamp lets users create "Projects". These projects are isolated workspaces that contain: members, todos, chat, files, message board, and calendar, etc. My issue was with the scattered calendars. Because I (and every other Basecamp user) creates a dedicated project for different scope of work, even if it is for the same client. For example, at any given time, I may have 4 projects for client-X and 3 projects for client-Y.*My pain point*I have experienced that most clients (especially the decision-makers) do not use Basecamp as often as we--the agency folks use it. Ask HN: Research vs. Founding a Tech Startup?Engineering + math graduate whose goal is to maximize impact. I am currently deciding between two career paths, but have been struggling a lot to determine which would be more impactful:1. Become a professor/researcher in robotics, working on mainstream technical problems such as zero-shot learning. (To be clear, I’m not primarily thinking about robotics safety or AI safety, but rather general robotics capabilities research.)2. Try to found “low-sophistication” hard-tech startups — i.e. products that are not extremely technically sophisticated and could easily be prototyped in a local makerspace, meaning any wannabe hard-tech founder could easily make it.Note: For personal and practical reasons, it is unlikely that I would found a highly sophisticated hard-tech company, i.e. one that requires advanced fabrication / other specialized technologies.TLDR: Has anyone here faced or thought seriously about a similar decision? In a typical scenario - the team that produced the film makes 15% of the topline revenues. The Distributor takes 35%. And the theatre (the exhibitor) takes 50%.So even in a scenario like Obsession where the movie is making a rocket ride, the filmmakers were capped at $50M (15M upfront + 15%). The Distributors and theatres get the upside of the $330 million.In the startup world, we get upset about appstores charging 30% :)The situation gets worse for Indie films and more so for people who are using AI tools to tell stories. Films that got made, got finished, and then have nowhere to go because the distribution infrastructure wasn't built for them. That's increasingly true for indie films. Show HN: inplan – plan with your coding agent in a shared Markdown docHi HN — I'm one of the makers.We kept hitting the same failure mode with coding agents: you hand over a vague plan, the agent fills the gaps with guesses, and the back-and-forth that explains why a decision was made lives in a linear chat you can't navigate later. So we built inplan: a Markdown editor where you and the agent edit one plan document together.The part we care most about: you can select any sentence and open a threaded comment on it — ask a question, get the agent's take, make the call — and that exchange stays anchored to that line as a durable record. When the agent changes the plan it comes back as a diff you review and apply, instead of silently rewriting the doc. It installs as a Claude Code skill (also Codex/Pi), so a "plan X" prompt opens the editor: the agent drafts, you refine inline, it revises.It's open-core (AGPL-3.0) and runs fully locally — npm i -g inplan.
