Peak unemployment for a software engineer. What did I do wrong?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48226881Back in 2019, I was a CS student in Iraq. I taught myself Node.js, React, and TypeScript. Then in 2020, the pandemic started, and honestly, it was perfect timing for me because suddenly a lot of local businesses needed delivery web apps.I was lucky enough to know some of those business owners, and I ended up building 4 delivery apps by myself. I was coding solo, finishing the apps, setting up Docker, deploying everything, and actually getting paid for it while I was still in my second year of college. It felt unreal. I remember telling my parents, “I have my own money now, you don’t need to give me.” It was one of the best feelings in my life.Later, I got an internship at a company, and I was so happy about it. I honestly couldn’t believe I was already working as a developer while still studying. After the internship, I had an idea for a mobile app. I learned React Native in one week and felt really comfortable with it. I started building the app, but eventually it failed and during tha

Show HN: ATM, a tiny terminal task manager for local coding agentshttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48223680Hi HN,I made ATM, short for Agent Task Manager. It is a small CLI/TUI that shows which local coding agents are running on your machine, which repo they are in, and whether they look active, idle, stale, or just present as a process. It currently recognizes common agent CLI processes like Codex, Claude, Gemini, Aider, OpenCode, Goose, Amp, and Cursor Agent. Codex has the deepest support right now: ATM can read local session metadata to show the project, session path, last activity, and a compact "what just happened" summary.I built it because I kept ending up with several agents running across different repos and wanted something friendlier than ps for answering: "what is still alive, where is it working, and has it gone quiet?"Install:curl -fsSL https://github.com/artpar/atm/releases/latest/download/insta... | shRepo: https://github.com/artpar/atmIt is early, tiny, and CLI-first. I’d love feedback from people running multiple local agents at once because right now its a very basic.

Show HN: I Dedicated 4 Years to Mastering Offline Password Crackinghttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48221896Hi everyone,I am Bojta Lepenye, and first of all, I want to thank the core developers of Hashcat. In my experience, it is quite literally the most capable tool available for offline password cracking across a wide range of use cases.I have spent the last 4 years (from age 14 to 18) extensively working with Hashcat and the tools surrounding it, and I have documented what I have learned throughout that time (since January 18, 2022) in my first book. During that period, I also had to continuously update and rewrite major sections as the field evolved. One example was the introduction of GPU support for Argon2 and other memory-hard password hashing algorithms, which significantly changed some cracking workflows. My passion for this book, or its “quick starter,” if you will, came from an ethically conducted penetration test I performed with full authorization at my school. This is something I am both hesitant and quite proud to acknowledge. At the beginning, I simply wrote down everything I h

Could've gone for a free service like Neon for my db, but it didn't play well with JDBC in my last project. I enjoy using the Cloudflare stack a lot compared to AWS.How it differs from other proposal software is the emphas

"An (important) message from Infomaniak's founder"https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48204965Hello ...,I'm writing to you as the founder and strategic director of Infomaniak because something important has just happened, and it concerns you directly.I no longer control InfomaniakIt's not a multinational that has taken my place. It's a Swiss public-interest foundation: the Infomaniak Foundation. It now holds the majority of voting rights, in the form of special shares that can never be transferred. The Infomaniak Foundation has two missions:First, to support projects of general interest: digital sovereignty and education, environment and biodiversity, ethical technology, and the energy transition.Second, as the reference shareholder, to safeguard the independence and longevity of our DNA.What this changes for youYou chose Infomaniak for specific reasons: sovereignty, sustainability, respect for your privacy, and local roots.Today, these commitments no longer depend on me. They are written into a charter that no one can undo.I remain fully committed to Infomaniak's strategy, alon

Show HN: Alint, a fast linter for repository structure and hygienehttps://github.com/asamarts/alintHi HN, I have been working on alint for the last little while. It is a linter for the shape of a repository rather than the code inside it. clippy, ruff, eslint, and others already handle the AST and code space. alint checks the other layer: required files, filename conventions, content patterns, structured values inside package.json / Cargo.toml / GitHub workflow YAML, and cross-file invariants. You write one .alint.yml describing what the repo should look like, and it runs in CI. Today it covers 70 rule kinds across 13 families, 19 bundled rulesets, 12 auto-fix ops, and 8 output formats including SARIF.To check the design against reality, I built (vibed) working configs for 30 real OSS repos. The corpus is deliberately varied: single-language workspaces and polyglot monorepos, from small clean trees up to roughly 150k-file mega-repos, with and without mature in-house tooling. Each one has a writeup of what alint catches that the repo's existing tooling does not, including the false-p

Show HN: We built an AI strategy agent that runs consulting-style workflowshttps://nitrolens.ai/Before this, I worked in strategy consulting at McKinsey and later in product and corporate strategy roles at Cisco. One pain point I kept seeing: many teams need high-quality strategic analysis, but they do not have a realistic way to get it.If you are a large company, you can hire a consulting firm. But that often costs $100K+ and takes months. If you are a smaller or mid-sized team, you usually rely on internal analysis, spreadsheets, scattered research, or ChatGPT. Those can help, but they often leave you with the same problem: you still need to know what question to ask, what framework to use, what evidence is missing, and whether the recommendation is actually decision-ready.We built NitroLens AI to make consulting-style strategy work more accessible through AI agents. The product starts with a strategic question, such as:Should we enter this market? How should we price this product? Which growth channel should we prioritize? What should our AI transformation roadmap look like?Nit

Show HN: Limitless – AI OSINT search and interactive intelligence sandboxeshttps://limitless-osint.com/Hi HN,I built Limitless because I wanted to create a unified, high-fidelity platform for Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), dark web collection, and interactive threat training. Most cybersecurity training systems are either standard slide decks or text-heavy questionnaires. At the same time, actual analyst tools are scattered across hundreds of disconnected command-line scripts and API wrappers.Limitless merges real analyst tools with a reactive, browser-based training simulator. The Ecosystem Components: 1. *Feynman (OSINT search): An intelligence search engine that maps digital footprints, uncovers hidden connections, and aggregates intelligence across 200+ online sources instantly. 2. *Sentinel (Darknet Agent):* An autonomous AI agent designed for deep-web collection, learning, and reasoning across darknet forums. 3. *Interactive Training Sandboxes:* Scenario-driven tutorials that teach cybersecurity operations through visual tools: * GEOINT Simulator: Uses Leaflet and coordinates to

Show HN: Crowdsourced tracker for what each Windows/M365 update breakshttps://win-update-tracker.vercel.app/Sysadmins find out about a broken Windows update three ways: a user ticket the morning after Patch Tuesday, an r/sysadmin thread 48 hours later, or Microsoft's own Known Issues page 1–3 weeks deep. There's no central feed of "this KB broke this thing on this config." Bleeping Computer and AskWoody are the closest, but slow and unstructured. So I built one. What it does: - Pulls posts every 4–6h from r/sysadmin, r/msp, r/Intune, r/ActiveDirectory, r/exchangeserver, r/AZURE via the Reddit JSON API - Pulls RSS from MS Health Dashboard, Bleeping Computer, AskWoody, BornCity, MS Security Blog, and the Windows IT Pro / Intune / Exchange TechCommunity boards - Groups by (primary KB, component) so 12 threads about the same 802.1X bug become one row with 12 source links - Ranks by score + post_count + recency - Optional Thursday digest email via ResendEvery regression row links back to the underlying Reddit/RSS posts — the classifier is not authoritative, the source threads are. CloudNSite – AI agents that replace manual business processes for SMBshttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48199120Hey HN,I built CloudNSite, a consulting firm that deploys AI agents to automate repetitive business workflows across healthcare, legal, real estate, and a few other verticals. The problem I kept running into with clients was that most AI tooling assumes you have an engineering team. Small businesses don't. They have manual processes held together with spreadsheets and email. We built a library of 30+ pre-built agents and multi-agent bundles tuned to specific industry workflows. Clients pick what fits, we customize and deploy. For healthcare and legal clients with strict data requirements, we handle private LLM deployments on their own infrastructure with HIPAA-ready architecture. We also built a free AI Readiness Assessment that generates personalized use cases and rough ROI estimates without a sales call.Would love feedback from anyone who has worked in this space or has thoughts on the agent library approach.
