Show HN: Rastion – Autonomous Monitoring Systemshttps://www.rastion.com/I built a collection of live monitoring systems that connect to your business data and continuously send optimization recommendations via email. No dashboards to check, no software to install – just automated insights delivered to your inbox. What it does: • Workforce Scheduling Monitor – Connects to employee databases, optimizes shift assignments, emails scheduling recommendations (20-25% labor cost reduction) • Inventory Optimization Tracker – Monitors stock levels, calculates optimal reorder points using EOQ algorithms, emails purchase recommendations (15-30% inventory cost reduction) • Route Optimization Monitor – Analyzes delivery routes, solves Vehicle Routing Problems with Time Windows, emails route improvements (10-20% fuel cost reduction)The key insight: Most optimization tools require you to log in, check dashboards, and manually act on insights. These systems flip that – they actively monitor your data and proactively send actionable recommendations when opportunities are det

Claude Code/Cursor is using grep? Are we devolvinghttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44529677Every AI coding tool has a search problem.Claude uses grep. Cursor does basic vector search. Context retrieval? Honestly, pretty mediocre. As a co-founder of a vector database company, I’ve realized: the only way to understand real developer pain is to use these tools every day — not just sit in strategy meetings.Tried Claude Code. Loved the idea: delegating tasks from the terminal feels magical. But hit a wall fast — grep-based search doesn’t understand semantics. It finds strings, not meaning.Cursor? A good start with vector search, but still shallow. No deep understanding of code structure or intent. That pain point became our opportunity. The more I used Claude, Cursor, Windsurf… the clearer it became: AI tools lack true semantic code understanding. So we built Code Indexer CLI:One-click indexing of your codebaseFast, semantic retrievalNative support for all major AI coding toolsWe’re not just fixing search — we’re building a better foundation for AI coding. Because context matters mor

Epistemological Primeshttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44521212I am on a quest for the epistemological primes. These are the deep foundational knowledges which underpin everything. Somehow relates to that "high-leverage generalist" concept, but it's like the next level above that. We're talking level 3 jack of all trades here. The epistemological primes of mathematics might be logic, set theory, category theory, model theory, graph theory, and a few others. Things that can't be reduced any further; their own whole ways of thinking. These primes exist in everything. Doing drugs (the way I do them) involves knowledge of chemistry, thermodynamics, and cognitive psychology. Cooking also involves chemistry and thermodynamics, and the knowledge of "flavor profiles" (which cores does that come from?). Doing projects involves some kind of "how to work" prime."Physics" is not a prime, but kinematics probably is a prime. It's hard to figure some of them out. Demographics feels prime, but is probably actually a few things mashed together. Same for metrology, ph

Continuing the Quest for Clayshttps://science.nasa.gov/blog/continuing-the-quest-for-clays/Written by Eleanor Moreland, Ph.D. Student Collaborator at Rice University For the past month and a half, Perseverance has been exploring the Krokodillen plateau in search of clay-bearing rocks. An earlier blog discussed that these rocks could hold clues to Mars’ watery past, and Perseverance has been exploring multiple potential locations to find a suitable […]

One line email taught me more about communication than months of buildinghttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44453367I'm Francesco, as you might have read here I'm building a job application tool called interviuu, and this morning, like every morning, I was checking emails. After recent launch day my inbox looks like a mix of user feedback and people offering their services, but there was also this one message that really hit me."Interesting approach no free time don’t know what’s behind the curtain just pay the money good luck"Super simple email, just a few lines, but the value was huge. Made me realize that if my startup doesn't have a free trial (or freemium plan) I have to communicate the real value of the product way better on the landing page or in any educational content.I'm not saying this is some groundbreaking discovery or that it wasn't obvious, but there are certain interactions when you launch that make you pay attention to these obvious things a lot more. So, for me, a clear, realistic view of what your product actually does can solve three major issues: - Potential misunderstandings and

MVP in 15 days and why strangers became angelshttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44402928How we leveraged Events, LinkedIn, Open-source, free accounts. With 0 Strategy. Just plain curiosity to learn & solve a problem.Curiosity > StrategyWe didn't know words MVP, pitchdeck nor about fundraise, co-founder. Startups, VC, angels world was alien to me....So here's how we started. We would ping strangers on LinkedIn & events that I joined. I even spent Indian Rupees 1L ($4900 in PPP terms) on paid events/niche trainings.I’ve never hesitated to spend on my Curiosity. It pays back in long run.We helped strangers without expectations. Still ppl won't respond... I wondered why? These people posted they needed help. But this pain paid back in long run. You learn this is how the world works. You reach 20 — if 2-5 respond, you're lucky.Deal that crashedI helped 1 wanna-be US VC raising $100M fund, 2 wanna-be startups & 2 folks with overlap to our idea. Since we weren't sure about any idea — VC thing looked exciting. We helped with what we know best — tech, connects — without even knowing

Show HN: I built an app that auto-shares your referral codes for passive rewardshttps://www.refer-app.com/Hi HN,I built REFER, a tool that helps people automatically share their referral codes where others are searching for them. It’s not a marketplace or a link tree—users just enter the codes they already have (for apps like Webull, Rakuten, Robinhood, etc.), and REFER distributes them for discoverability. The goal is to make it easier for people to earn from referral programs without constantly promoting links themselves. Why I built it: I noticed a lot of folks—including creators and casual users—have valuable referral codes sitting unused. Most people either don’t know where to post them, or they end up buried in social media bios or YouTube descriptions. I wanted to make something that quietly works in the background to surface these codes without requiring extra effort or marketing.I designed and built REFER solo. It uses Next.js, TypeScript, Prisma, MongoDB, Stripe (for optional paid tiers), and Auth0 for authentication. All code is deployed on Vercel. What's different: All codes are

Show HN: GratefulMe – A privacy-focused gratitude journal apphttps://apps.apple.com/us/app/gratitude-journal-gratefulme/id6742772020I built a gratitude journaling app that implements CBT techniques to help users develop a daily mindfulness practice. Research shows that consistent gratitude practice can significantly improve mental wellbeing, and I wanted to create a tool that makes this accessible. The app focuses on these core principles:- Privacy: All data stays on your device with an offline-first approach - Simplicity: Clean interface optimized for quick daily entries - Consistency: Streak tracking and gentle notifications to build a habit - Organization: Category system to identify patterns in what brings you joyTech details:- Built with React Native/Expo - Local SQLite database using expo-sqlite and drizzle-orm - In-app purchases via RevenueCat - Minimalist architecture with a focus on performanceAs a developer, the most valuable lessons came from handling the entire process solo - from initial concept through development to App Store submission and payment infrastructure. The current roadmap includes customiza

Show HN: Browser Buddy – Internet For-You Pagehttps://www.browserbuddy.com/Hey HN, thank you for being a part of the internet we love. We’re Arnav, Mo, Jeremy and we’re building an “Internet for-you page” that recommends blogs and essays based on your interests. Try it here (https://www.browserbuddy.com/)!We love to discover and learn from personal blogs, essays, and articles on the internet. But despite exciting advancements in language modeling, it’s felt harder to discover interesting links from real people. We believe there is untapped potential to use these language models as “curators” rather than “creators”. To explore this, we’re building a recommendation system that curates content for you based on the links you visit from our site. Pasting a link into the input bar to find similar sites also influences your recommendations.Under the hood, we’ve trained a decoder model (llama) to understand how people recommend sites through hyperlinks and used it to embed ~40 million sites. These embeddings are served in a custom database we’re building to run fast o
