Show HN: Squishword, a word game where meaning, not spelling, mattersThis is a little daily word game that I've been working on. I love crosswords and Wordle but they all use the spelling of words as the main constraint. With LLMs we can build "Squishy Systems", systems that don't have to be fully procedurally defined. That can give us games that feel more like playing a board game with friends. Games that require a human judge. Because they require a judge they aren't well explored for video games, especially outside of multiplayer.Squishword is a simple first exploration of that. There's a tutorial so I won't explain all the mechanics. Simply: you try to move from one word to another by adding, subtracting, joining and dividing words. For example: "dog" splits into "bark" and "animal". You can do clever things like take "bark" + "plant" and make "tree". The inspiration comes from the "Wikipedia game" where you try to move from one random article to another just by clicking links.Tuning the judge behavior for fair results took a lot of work, and I'm no

Show HN: A 'boggle-like' daily word gameDuno what Id call it exactly? A boggle-like smushed together with crossword style riddles and some board re-roll mechanics.Bit of an LLM experiment in spinning off daily, theme-based word games easy enough to bang out over breakfast or a coffee break.Anyway, fire it up in a mobile browser and have a poke at it - appreciate any thoughts as I keep tinkering with it.No account or login required.

Show HN: I hand-write 5 daily word puzzles before workI build and hand-write five daily word puzzles at dailyworder.com. Every clue and answer for the dailies are mine — I use AI for the code and it's unlocked crazy speed on small but thorny problems. One technical detail as an example: Pyramid's editor (one of the five games) uses a ~350KB precomputed dataset of valid frameworks — grids where a single vowel, dropped into every slot, produces valid English words across all rows. Building the dataset was the actual work (combinatorial search over a 60k-word dictionary with constraint checks) but I did that in one session. Runtime is trivial: pick a framework, pick a vowel, render. Works offline. Don't think I could spend the time on it before LLMs.The other four:- Fourbe — Connections-style, but the connections are spelled out in crossword-style clues across four rounds- Spying Bee — Word find flipped on it's head where players must reveal letters before they can select- Invertle — word guesser with higher/lower hints- Totum — letter-tile s

Show HN: Building ClueDay, a daily clue-based word-gameHi HN! I'm Tanya, a product manager who is building ClueDay - a daily clue-based word game.I grew up playing Scrabble and Taboo, and the NY subway has brought the word games habit back.Stack: Lovable for the first draft, Claude Code for everything after, Vercel to ship. No backend except Supabase for a leaderboard and word submissions.Looking for help on few things: 1) Clue design is hard and I've been learning cryptic crossword techniques to get better at it. Any suggestions help. 2) On reading the Substack if there are recommendations on improving my process, since it is not agentic by any means. 3) If you get around to trying clueday.com, feedback on the game itself I'm happy to incorporate.Play: https://clueday.com Build story: https://tanyagupta10.substack.com/p/if-you-havent-vibecoded-...

Show HN: Scryptogram – A game where you fill in the blanks to guess the subjectHey HN! I built Scryptogram, a puzzle game where you’re given a category and a summary written in blanks, and you fill them in to reveal the subject. I’ve always loved crosswords, Wordle, and trivia, but wanted something that combines the “aha!” moment of trivia with the letter-filling satisfaction of word games. Each puzzle starts with a category (e.g. “Fictional Character”) and a blanked-out summary. As you guess letters, the words slowly fill in, and once you figure out the subject you can keep completing the rest of the puzzle.I built it with React on the frontend and AWS (S3 for puzzles, DynamoDB for stats + Archive, Cognito for auth) on the backend. I’m still experimenting with puzzle difficulty, retention features, and daily packs. You can try it here: https://scryptogram.com - all feedback is welcome!

Show HN: Outlier, a new daily word gameHello HN,If you love daily word games like the Crossword, Connections, or Wordle, you might enjoy Outlier. The game explores relationships between words-- while RED is of course a color, it is also a baseball player in Cincinnati, a Taylor Swift album, and a River on the Texas border (to name a few).Ex:Super Mail Slender Aqua Sand Boogey Hail Hit GentleWhile Gentleman, Superman, and Hitman are all real words/concepts, Hailman is not. HAIL is the Outlier. The Outlier then becomes a member of the set for the following. The next round might then cover Meteoroligical Phenomena, or archaic greetings (Hail Caesar) or words to indicate where someone is from ("she hails from Ohio").Open to all feedback! Trying to decide if the current time penalty should be increased to encourage more methodical play. I'm also posting daily clues on IG @ outlier.land. Thanks!

Show HN: Triplit, a new daily word gameMy partner and I built a daily word game that has elements of the Mini Crossword, Wordle, and Spelling Bee, with some twists all its own.I’ve been fairly obsessed with the New York Times crossword puzzle ever since I saw the documentary Wordplay about 12 years ago. I started with Mondays and gradually made my way up to Saturdays, and when I began to appreciate the puzzles as aesthetic objects worthy of appreciation and criticism (rather than just a slog to survive and then brag about), I began to wonder what it would be like to create puzzles. But making full crossword puzzles was always very daunting to me.Luckily, my partner got an idea for a new word game while on vacation in Italy over-caffeinated on espresso, and boom! Triplit was born.We feel that after the smashing success of Wordle, the time is ripe for a new quick daily word game. To us, Triplit combines the playful, at times cryptic clueing of crosswords with the mental manipulation of Spelling Bee and the feedback and scorin

Show HN: Three Magic WordsHere’s a free, fun, novel five-letter word game for the web! It’s a game I originally wrote for the iPhone in 2010, but wasn’t able to finish before my first child was born. When I left my senior web developer job in September 2021 I figured I would postpone looking for work and finish the game before another 11 years passed, and expose myself to new skills doing it (in this case, Swift). I released it on the App Store in December, then turned my attention to doing a web version — when suddenly Wordle was in The NY Times, and then everywhere.Perhaps foolishly, I plowed ahead and here we are. Like Wordle and some other NY Times word games, there is a single daily puzzle, but like traditional crossword puzzles, it gets harder throughout the week.
