Ask HN: We have company runway but not founder time. When do you go full-time?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49367763Three first-time founders in Canada, all of us between 45 and 55: business/product, marketing, and me on the technical side. We're building an AI tool for creative work. About thirty testers have been on a pre-production build for a couple of months. Feedback is good, and importantly is not from friends, but actual target users who we sourced through our networks, which I'm treating as encouraging signal on product-market fit. We're bootstrapped with CAD $25k initial commit and an additional up to $100k available, though we'd rather earn the right to spend each additional dollar than commit it up front. All three of us still have day jobs, cleared with our employers. At current near-zero usage we could run the service for ~18 months without revenue — that number obviously falls as real users arrive, which is part of the problem. So our constraint isn't the usual one. The company has runway; founder time doesn't. I built the platform, I'm the one who has to go full-time first, and I'm alsAug 19, 2026 10:01 PM

Show HN: Dispositio – a TUI project planner that stores plans as plain Markdownhttps://systemist.net/tools/dispositioHi all! Wanted to show you guys Dispositio, a project planning TUI that saves projects to simple markdown.I always have a ton of solo projects cooking, and in the past organized and planned them in increasingly complex `ROADMAP.md` files. After working with bubbletea on another project, and after constantly manually calculating its delivery dates for myself (as my bandwidth was quite limited at the time), I realized it would be cool to combine the two!The result is Dispositio, a tool which:- Tracks milestones, set estimated durations, rearrange and modify easily, and see the estimated timeline of the whole thing (measured in weeks for now; can add sprints or other metrics later if people want it) - Lets you set up tasks and subtasks right in it (added because I found it very handy to just keep my todos right here, one per project) - Handles overdue items etc - Helps you know how many days you get on average per milestone task in order to stay on task - Saves to plain markdown so you caAug 19, 2026 9:44 PM

Ask HN: Has anyone shipped a self-modifying application with LLMs?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49366144In the past the model for software would typically be to ship a fixed application and then if users need some custom functionality, they would need to install a plugin or create their own.For non technical users they would have to find an existing plugin or maybe it doesn't exist so they are stuck. But I can't help but think why wouldn't for example an application just have a prompt box that builds an extension dynamically on the fly (e.g. "make me a UI panel with some buttons that does X")Obviously it would be "use at your own risk" and YMMVHave any companies or applications actually done something like this?I think modifying the real source code would get out of hand but perhaps just generating extensions that have access to a sand boxed set of safer APIs.Aug 19, 2026 7:33 PM

Show HN: TurnLeft – a one-button stock car racing game in the browserhttps://turnleft.appThe only control is tapping the screen to turn your car left.I built this mostly with Fable 5 over the course of a few weeks. I had to tweak a fair amount of the graphics to get them where I wanted, but 100% of the code was written by Fable 5.The idea was to make a really simple top-down retro racing game that runs entirely in the browser. You can also save it to your phone as a PWA.I wanted it to be immediately playable with basically no instructions, something you can open, play for a few minutes while killing time, close, and come back to later.Would love to hear what you think.Aug 19, 2026 7:16 PM
