Show HN: Injectable time and timers with custom Date types for TypeScripthttps://github.com/jaenyf/time-providerI find TypeScript js/node environment is missing a Time-Provider (just like *.*NET TimeProvider for instance ships with its framework). So for this purpose I built a small library (@time-provider) tailored for js/node environment.Obviously the goal is to both avoid using global monkey-patching with fake-timers or re-writing your clock interface... and still use your date library (native or custom).I propose four clock strategies: system (real time), fixed manual (advance time explicitly), and sequential (replay of a sequence of timestamps).I also benchmarked slightly better performances than jest / sinon. The project is still young, so the API may still receive refinements as real usage appears.I would be happy to hear feedback on this ! Take care. You can check it out on GitHub: https://github.com/jaenyf/time-providerJaenyf

Show HN: Punter.js – single-file JavaScript game engine for teaching programminghttps://punterjs.org/We host work experience students at Orca Scan. This year I mentored one myself.Schools teach programming theory, maybe some Python. Students rarely leave with something to show their friends. When I started coding on a ZX Spectrum, I typed in listings from INPUT magazine. Tweak a number, get more lives, you’re hooked. I wanted that same effect. So I pulled the JS engine we built for OrcaCam out into its own thing: punter.js. One file, ~2000 lines, plain ES5, no dependencies. Starting with Pong, a student can write a working game in an HTML file and have it live in 15 minutes. My goal is to create something simple schools can use to teach programming, but in a way that inspires.Would love your feedback, what do I need to add/improve to achieve this goal?

We need to rethink tech stackhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49061251Let me start this with something we already know, AI is here, it may be controversial how it will operate open or closed but its not going anywhere. If you look at the current tech space, AI integrations and use and some very useful but some unnecessary AI implementations, you will realise that there are either many gaps in current understanding.Lets start on what i wanted to talk, first lets talk about AI, what is AI, not the defination, but actually is AI, it may not be the ultimate intelligence but have some intelligence or atleast we can say, it know certain well known patterns, its ability comes in various sizes, but essentially now we a black box with some knobs, which be a better solution than hard coded flows, logics and if its imagined well, it can be really really useful but there is a flaw.We being extremists, we either think of its going to taking all the jobs or its just useless, there is another way to approach it.Think of it as intelligence layer available to you, but cur

I'm the web guy who wanted to bring this to a wider audience with a more interactive way to pop-up the notes about esoteric content.Author's blurb from Amazon self-publishing page:F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby, is a manual for spiritual development. It is not a unique text, for many American modernist novels of canonical stature are similarly grounded in the occult. Fitzgerald was a follower of A. R. Orage who not only taught the Gurdjieff Work (the Fourth Way) but organized a vast literary network to further its goals. The chief reason that this occult literary tendency has remained in the shadows is that the arbiter of the movement has been poorly understood and critically neglected. The Great Gatsby belongs to a genre of the novel invented by Carl Van Vechten. Van Vechten’s novel, The Blind Bow-Boy (1923) was the model f

Show HN: LLM-spend – Audit your OpenAI/Anthropic API spend locallyhttps://github.com/kliukovkin/llm-spendI build spend-pacing systems for ad auctions for a living, and my side-project agent workloads still kept surprising me with API bills I couldn't explain. When I asked around how people attribute LLM spend, the answers were the provider dashboard or a spreadsheet.llm-spend is a local CLI that pulls usage from the OpenAI/Anthropic reporting APIs, breaks spend down by key, model and project, projects end-of-month, and flags days that look abnormal against the same weekday's history. It also does a second, independent read of the provider's cost API and warns if the totals disagree by more than 1%. That check exists because I don't want to ship you a wrong report: it catches unit, pagination and grouping bugs in my own pipeline. It checks against the provider's cost API, not your invoice — credits, tax and non-API charges live elsewhere.Keys are the ugly part. OpenAI admin keys can be scoped down to read-only usage/cost access, but admin keys require a Team plan. Anthropic admin keys can'

Show HN: Visualize your computer's network connections on a 3D globehttps://mapmy.network/Hey all, two days ago I had the idea for a tool that visualizes all the internet connections my computer made. Now its real! Its a simple open source program written in Rust that listens for outbound connections your computer makes, runs traceroutes on each destination, geolocates each hop and renders in on a 3d globe. The tool (network cartographer) works on linux, mac and windows. Feel free to try it out. I tried making it as frictionless as possible.Beaware this is mostly a for-fun and educational tool. It will naturally be inaccurate as it doesnt show the routes the actual packets take, just the way that traceroute did. Its also limited how much data i could find for the geolocalization.

Ask HN: I spent personal money on game dev. How to turn stalled project around?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49058923Over the last year I spent a sizable sum on a personal multiplayer game project. I designed the idea until it was ready, contracted an offshore dev team, spent several months iterating on the production and then had the unfortunate luck to have the contracting company go out of business while the project was still in a pre alpha stage. How should I rethink my problem space and move forward in this situation? Game dev is different from some trades in the sense that investment is heavily front loaded, which makes it difficult to start bringing in revenue while you’re still building out the MVP.I firmly believe in the project itself, it already shows promise. The game is an online battle game, and what I currently have is a (rough) playable demo with placeholder art.Professionally, I’m a dev, so I could keep building it myself, although it involves much more than just software hours. There is a huge amount of work that includes 2D/3D art, sound, music, networking, UI, onboarding, testing,

I couldn't find anything existing that does this do I built it! I used pvolok's excellent mprocs as a starting point and leaned heavily on Claude and Codex for coding all but the gnarliest parts while providing extensive guidance on how it should be implemented.I know that coding agents can run shell commands already but that puts the AI in the driver's seat. Terminai let's me be the driver, with codex or claude (or any other agent) sitting quietly in the backseat until I want its help. The hardest part was making it truly transparent. Most TUIs that embed a terminal break the terminal emulator's native scrollback and frequently also break copying to the clipboard. I worked hard to make sure that that both of these work exactly as they would without terminai. Along the way I had

Show HN: I built a hypervisor and client for inference on consumer computehttps://scalattice.com/blog/openai-sdk-scalattice/I'm the founder of Scalattice, this is my second company, third total product. I'm a 2x founder building some challenging software, some easy software, and some curiosity based tools that I've just always wanted to be a part of!So here is Scalattice.Scalattice is an OpenAI-compatible inference API. You keep the OpenAI SDK, swap base_url + API key, and call open models (Qwen3, Llama 3.3 70B, Gemma 3, DeepSeek R1, etc.). Inference is performed by a provider node on our distributed network of consumer hosted inference machines, we run an open source agent (https://github.com/scalattice/scalattice-agent) which works in Rust to run the inference and get the provider paid.In short, anyone can become a provider, offer up their machine with our Windows/Linux Rust agent, and earn some extra cash, or start a farm of machines to make big bucks.I decided to build some innovative behavioural traits to the API for higher performance/security: 1. output vetting - Scalattice Cloud vets the response ag

The graph is not a visualization of the wiki. The wiki, timelines, relationship histories, and analytics are projections of the graph. The current demo contains 232 entities, 1,852 edges, and a snapshot of the story’s state at every chapter. By chapter 100, it still remembers a promise made in chapter 8 and turns the story into a set of source-verifiable facts. The most interesting things can be found in the graph itself and in the Analytics tab. A few things I found:1. The character with the highest kill count is the Tin Woodman—the same character who cries over a beetle he accidentally crushed. Dorothy comes second, with three killing events. 2. Dorothy never deceives anyone during the first 100 chapters of the series. 3. The Scarecrow’s debt to the stork has remained active for 92 chapters, starting i
