Show HN: Steganeur – Hide secret messages in LLM-generated text (Rust)https://github.com/marcsnid/steganeurHi HN! I made a project that I found really fun and I'm proud of the idea and implementation. This first came up when speaking to a friend, we were talking around how to do steganography in natural text, and realized an LLM's token choices are a natural channel.Steganeur accomplishes this by encoding a secret message into the token choices of a language model, producing cover text that reads like a normal sentence. A recipient recovers the message using only the cover text and the model. With the rejection method, the output is statistically identical to normal generation, not just something that looks similar. The interesting problem I hit: steganeur reads the model's logprobs directly, and three of the four methods need them to come out exactly the same on encode and decode. On GPU reductions are non-deterministic, so the logprobs drift between runs, which is enough to corrupt the bits. Only one method (block) survives on GPU, because it bins tokens by their id rather than by probabil

Show HN: eInk Optimized Manga with Kindle Comic Converter (+Kobo/KOreader)https://github.com/ciromattia/kccKindle Comic Converter optimizes black & white (or color) comics and manga for E-ink ereaders like Kindle, Kobo, ReMarkable, and more. Pages display in fullscreen without margins, with proper fixed layout support. KCC runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux.KCC's main goal is maximum image quality at significantly smaller file size. For example, KCC1) can compress a 600 MB manga volume from Humble Bundle to 100 MB. This is mostly accomplished by downscaling to the native resolution of your specific device. This can also improve battery life, page turn speed, and general performance on underpowered ereaders with small memory and storage capacities.2) fixes black levels to avoid gray/faded blacks found in many Kindle Store manga3) fixes the rainbow effect on Kaleido 3 color eink without blur using the Discrete Fourier Transform (community PR)It can also semi-automatically join pre-split 2 page spreads and has several KOreader optimizations as well.

Show HN: Caspian – Talk to Human Tool for AI Agentshttps://github.com/TryCaspian/caspian-sdkSup HN! Dipanshu and Rushant here from Caspian. One is a functional programmer and the other has been deploying AI employees. Together we realized how agents have communication bottleneck.Given the coming agentic economy, we had a thought experiment on what can be the key infrastructure for agents as they get better. Our inspiration for solving for communications infra came from our own time spent just setting up comms while we were deploying open claw for companies plus we noticed about 15%+ of issues in Openclaw and Hermes were that of comms. So we abstracted the headache of reliable communication web-hooks, handling of queues, provision and identity management behind an single SDK integration / tool call. Think of it like rather than rolling your own auth, you can use better auth sdk, same thesis here.Technically, we designed the SDK from the ground up as a DSL for communications (heavy inspiration from functional programming) and then add on our own run time environment which auto p

It evolved into a web app with a new mystery every day.The mysteries are all written by LLMs. Some are better than others, but most work nicely. The web app is written in go with templ HTML templates, HTMX for on-page interactivity, SSE for content updates, and a turn-based game engine written as a Temporal workflow.Check out the mystery gen write up for more info: https://blog.apartment304.com/whodunit-llm-murder-mysteries

Coding Agents killed my identity. How do you feel?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49389408I always was a nerdy, deeply technical programmer. Contributing-to-open-source-and-reading-papers-in-my-spare-time type of programmer.Programming is like a game of chess for me: winning (i.e. delivering a product) is important, but only if I played this game myself. I don't enjoy winning if my opponent disconnected. I don't enjoy beating people who don't know how to move pieces. I don't enjoy winning with an engine, and coding agents are basically "winning with a chess engine".I started to use AI for coding a long time ago, when copilot was first introduced. At first, I was happy: "wow, this can write boring boilerplate and unit tests". Time went by, agents got better, time spent writing code myself went down. Half a year ago I suddenly realized I hadn't written any code for over a month, and I am a full-time software dev without any managing work. Not only did I stop writing code, but agents also became pretty good at proposing plans and architectures, and I was mostly providing missi

Show HN: Chipmunk – Desktop Log Viewer Written in Rust and Eguihttps://github.com/esrlabs/chipmunkHi,I just want to share the results of re-writing the front-end and application layer for Chipmunk logs-viewer desktop application. The app was originally an electron app with rust backend as node-module. The re-write replaced all electron and javascript with rust using egui framework. The re-write took me about 6 months, where I encountered multiple architectural challenges to work with an immediate rendering framework and connect it to an async backend running on tokio without using Mutex to avoid any potential dead-locks issue in the future. Please have a look to the demos of the app on GitHub and feel free to ask me questions about the re-write or using Rust and egui in production applications.
