Intuitive Machines’ Odysseus Achieves First Landing for CLPShttps://www.spacescout.info/2024/02/odysseus-first-landing-for-clps/On Thursday, February 22nd, Intuitive Machines’ Nova-C lander Odysseus successfully touched down on the Moon, achieving the “ultimate milestone” for the IM-1 mission and marking the first major victory for NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative. After Powered Descent Initiation occurred at 5:11 PM CST, Odysseus’s main engine fired for approximately eleven minutes, bringing the vehicle down for a soft landing on the lunar highlands at 5:23 CST. Despite a slight pointing error which delayed acquisition of signal, the lander was confirmed to be on the surface and transmitting a few minutes after touchdown. At a press conference on February 23rd, Intuitive Machines CEO Stephen Altemus reported that the team currently believes the lander to be lying on its side, but otherwise intact. Odysseus is the first American spacecraft to have safely landed on the Moon since Apollo 17 in 1972, and the first to do so near the lunar South Pole.Feb 23, 2024 9:30 PM

Show HN: LlaMaKey – One master key for all cloud LLM/GenAI APIshttps://github.com/TexteaInc/LlaMasterKeyKey management for multiple users and multiple cloud LLM/GenAI APIs is difficult to be both safe and convenient. Sharing keys among users risks leaking the key and makes it difficult to curb the leakage without interruptions. But assigning one key per user per cloud API results in too many keys to keep track of.Meet LlaMa(ster)Key, the secure and easy solution for API key management: * For each user, one master key for multiple APIs. * The master key is unique to each user. Granting and revoking a user's access won't impact other users. * The actual API keys to authenticate with cloud APIs are never known to users. Never leak a key due to a careless intern. * No code change! Keep using the official Python SDK of the cloud AI APIs, including OpenAI, Cohere, AnyScale, Perplexity, HuggingFace (free-tier inference so far), and Vectara.LlaMaKey works by taking advantage of the BASE_URL and API_KEY/TOKEN environment variables that the official Python SDKs of major LLM/GenAI APIs rely on. We (Adam, Micah and Ben) are excited to show you Dashdive (https://www.dashdive.com/), which calculates the cloud cost incurred by each user action taken in your product. There’s a demo video at https://www.dashdive.com/#video and an interactive demo here: https://demo.dashdive.com.We talked to dozens of software engineers and kept hearing about three problems caused by poor cloud cost observability:(1) Cost anomalies are slow to detect and hard to diagnose. For example, a computer vision company noticed their AWS costs spiking one month. Costs accrued until they identified the culprit: one of their customers had put up a life-size cutout of John Wayne, and they were running non-stop facial recognition on it.(2) No cost accountability in big orgs. For example, a public tech company’s top priority last year was to increase gross margin. But they had no way to identify the highest cost managers/products or measure improvement despite tagging efforts.(3) Uncertain and variable perJan 29, 2024 5:03 PM

Ask HN: What's the point of Material Design You?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38982648One could say that I've had a bit of an interesting relationship with Google's Material Design paradigm. When it was announced in 2014, I was very excited, despite not using a Android device at that time. It felt to me like an excellent example of 'Form Follows Function' in software UX, with elements that were simultaneously aesthetically pleasing and practical. For instance, widgets would seamlessly grow and shrink as you moved through the user interface relative to their importance in each context.Only a few years after that, I became somewhat disillusioned with how Material Design was being promoted, since Google were starting to break their own design rules everywhere. That gave me the impression that applying Material Design as a software developer was playing into their monopolistic vision of a coherent 'Google ecosystem', when they weren't going to do their part in maintaining that coherency.Fast-forward to the present, and, after a long break from using Android, I have just acqJan 13, 2024 6:02 PM

Show HN: Dashwave – Fast Android cloud build tool with collaborative emulatorshttps://dashwave.io/blog/dashwave-launch/Introducing Dashwave Public Beta!Hello, I am Supratik Das, Co-founder, and CTO at Dashwave. I am thrilled to announce the launch of Dashwave, a powerful cloud build and emulation tool for fast and collaborative Android development. It supports all major Android languages/frameworks: Java, Kotlin, React Native and Flutter. Why Dashwave? - The ProblemAndroid developers often struggle with insanely long build times and resource-intensive emulation sessions. They work in close collaboration with product stakeholders and rely on WIP feedback. Since builds, and feedback are slow, this leads to a 'code more, build less' approach, causing debugging challenges due to insufficient testing and productivity losses.Solutions exist but their scope is limited either as a general-purpose build tool or a CI/CD build tool. At Dashwave we are tailoring the entire platform right from the local development stage for the use cases of Android Developers. What is Dashwave? - The SolutionWith Dashwave, you can qJan 8, 2024 4:04 PM

The users (accountants) knew the audit history from the records themselves and hopefully today still do: - transaction records was having records for each stage (order, invoice, payment advice, sales receipt, journal entry, credit note, etc) - completeness of records was numbered books, pages, lines - irreversible records was ink pen and stamps - verifiable was entJan 5, 2024 12:54 PM
