Paramilitary force launches drone attacks across Sudanhttps://www.arabnews.com/node/2654334/middle-eastKHARTOUM: Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces launched drone strikes on capital Khartoum and other army-controlled cities on Wednesday, in what appeared to be their largest coordinated attack in months. Since April 2023, Sudan has been ravaged by war between its regular military, led by army chief Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and the RSF, commanded by Burhan’s former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. The capital Khartoum, which was recaptured by the army last year, has been targeted by drone strikes before but enjoyed relative calm for months.Aug 12, 2026 6:04 AM

Show HN: Mojave Paint for macOS, edit images like it's 1999https://mojavepaint.app/We all need a swiss army knife for images. A tool for really getting in there and dealing with the pixels precisely. You might be combining images into a sprite sheet, you might be matting images to squares, cutting out solid backgrounds, re-tinting graphical elements. For a website, a video game, for an app. There's a million photo editors, there's a million design tools, and Mojave Paint can do those things in varying degrees but "graphical asset production" is its first and primary mission. It's cheap! $9.99 (one-time, sad I even have to say that) for the "Pro" version. It's Mac-only, and Apple Silicon Mac at that. Does it look a little like Photoshop 5.5 from the year 1999? Maybe a little but also it's got plenty of its own original ideas. (Blog post on that is forthcoming…)I've always been passionate about image editing tools for the technically-minded so I'm throwing my hat in the ring in that space. And sure GIMP is for the technically-minded but boy is it ugly on the Mac!Jul 10, 2026 12:29 PM

Tell HN: From bartending to managing cloud infrastructurehttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34460997Someone on HN once recommended I share this story, and I've been seeing a lot of "how do I get into tech in my 30s" and "can I switch careers" posts, so I figured I'd post.----I'm 37. I spent my twenties bouncing all over the place; did a stint in the Army Reserves while shooting for liutenant bars that didn't work out (failed out of college and I was in ROTC). Did construction, real estate, grew weed in Denver for a year (legally), ended up bartending for roughly a decade. It was great in my early 20s. Not so hot to watch my age group get raises and salary increases.I have my GED and never finished college - left with a record-setting 1.2 GPA (I have severe ADD and I wasn't properly medicated, there were other problems too). Seemed like there was this universe of 'good jobs' that were simply not in the cards. So there I am, in my early 30s, struggling to make NY rent and watching folks get promoted and getting married and buying houses and all that stuff. I was lucky enough to have friJan 20, 2023 10:30 PM
