Should I continue to work at FAANG or move to startups?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35945335I've worked at 2 FAANG companies in my 6 years of being in tech. I feel like my work is monotonous and there aren't enough interesting technical challenges to solve. I've been programming since I was 12, and I've always been very passionate about it. I still work on open source projects, do hardware hacking and learn new tools every once in a while but I feel like I used to do so much more when I was a teenager. I've never been a fan of the hustle culture, and I also have a ton of hobbies outside of work/programming that I like to take part in, which is why I greatly value having a decent work life balance; something which startups aren't necessarily known for. My fiancé works as a PM and he strongly advises against joining a startup. He says that being a woman, I wouldn't be taken as seriously and my skills probably wouldn't be appreciated as much in a startup. (Although I've personally never faced much discrimination working at Big Tech). I'll be getting married later this year and pMay 15, 2023 8:50 AM

Launch HN: Brex (YC W17) – Corporate Credit Card for Startupshttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=17418813Hi HN –We are Henrique and Pedro of Brex (https://brex.com/). We've built a corporate credit card for startups that has high limits, an instant online application and no personal guarantees.Pedro and I built our first payments business in Brazil, Pagar.me, when we were teenagers. We came to the U.S. to attend Stanford. We joined YC W17 and realized quickly – even with a seed round in the millions – that we could not get a corporate credit card. We are Brazilian, young, and do not have U.S. credit. Even if we did have credit – we know that personally guaranteeing a credit card makes no sense for a business (more on that later). In Brazil, we raised $300K initially (when we were 16) from an investor that was willing to take a chance on us. In Brazil, even though there are 200 million people, there is very little venture capital financing and limited startup infrastructure (accelerators, resources, technical talent, executives experienced with high growth). We knew that $300K was all we weJun 28, 2018 5:23 PM

Israel: amazing hub for amazing startups. Here 10 that deserve more attentionhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12049175With more than 7,000 startups, Israel is considered the world’s second largest hub of entrepreneurship after the USA according to the Global Startup Ranking Ecosystem 2015. This result is quite impressive, especially if one considers that the country population adds up to only 8,5 million people. An HBR research listed three main reasons underlying these astonishing results: the early role of military R&D and the mandatory military service role in building entrepreneurial culture, good relations with the U.S. and the fact that early success breeds continued success. The average funding round is $12.15 million according to the 2015 Annual Report on Startup and Venture Capital in Israel (only considering rounds above above $500,000) and foreign investors, China in particular, play an important role.We decided to analyse this fascinating market and to highlight 10 startups that are growing under the radar. We believe they deserve to be discovered, and who knows, maybe one day they will becoJul 7, 2016 1:33 PM
