Show HN: Atlas – like GeoGuessr but multiple choice, daily, no sign-uphttps://wild.space/atlasBeen building atlas the past few months. A mobile webapp game, like Geoguessr, but with answer options (correct vs two decoys) which makes it a bit quicker. You're dropped somewhere and have to guess correctly as fast as possible. Every day at midnight UTC 5 new places will appear, same 5 for everyone in the world. So that’s the global league table.Every place you get right fills in your personal atlas map, which slowly becomes a picture of the places you know around the world. There are also live rounds where you can challenge friends (everyone sees the same place at the same moment) and slow async expeditions where a group fills a shared map over weeks. In ‘Tourist’ mode you play global locations around the world (randomised). In ‘Local’ mode you play neighbourhoods of cities or islands. In order to “own” a place you have to Ace it (5/5) - then your atlas map lights up with that place in blue. Some choices we made building this that HN might appreciate: 1. There is no “account”, no signup

Show HN: I precompiled the path network of 3 continents to invent hiking routeshttps://windygap.appWindy Gap generates hiking and running routes based on what you ask for. There are potential routes all around us and it finds them.I built it because I train for endurance events and have a camper van. I kept wanting to do certain kinds of hikes and runs and having no popular routes nearby, even in areas with dense path networks. I also wanted to squeeze more novelty out of my local area.Instead of choosing an existing route or plotting one waypoint by waypoint you can ask for something like a hilly half day walk from where you are. You can mark places to check out and avoid and it folds them into the routes it gives you.At request time, it uses a precompiled path graph (Europe, the Americas, and India). It analyzes what's actually on route: distance, elevation, summits, surface type, points of interest etc. Then scores candidates against the brief and returns the best. The initial naive implementation (typescript based, directly fetching from Overpass) was hopelessly slow (P95 ~48s,

My parrot ate my keyboardhttps://www.theverge.com/tech/978402/parrot-ate-keyboard-protectOne of the great joys in life is having pets. The unconditional love, the snuggles, the excitement they show when you get home - these things add an emotional fulfillment to daily existence that can't be achieved in another way. I think everyone's life would be better with a pet (or two) in their lives. It's an incredible experience. Except for those few times when it isn't. Both my wife and I wor...

Show HN: Artifex - Graph Based GPU Harness for AI Agentshttps://gatewai.studio/artifexArtifex is a machine-first, headless CLI runtime built for autonomous coding agents to author, validate, and render media node graphs locally. The agent talks to Artifex through a structured CLI interface. Workflows are DAGs, and each node is a plugin that can implement its own execution logic..Each node has capability to inject logic into graph processing, WebGPU rendering, audio processing and their own SKILL.md file. Nodes can also inject their react components (not available with CLI) - which will be available with the desktop app.Execution is topological and supports checkpoint caching via state flags (--state and --from-state), allowing agents to adjust layout coordinates or downstream filters without recomputing expensive and long upstream generation calls (such as Video Generation using Fal AI or an Agent Node using OpenRouter).Multi-track visual composition timeline with animations, blending, media cut, crop, color LUTs, filter graphs, audio effects and other media editing nod

Show HN: Open Vibe Coded Elite – Harmlesshttps://github.com/atomic14/harmlessI'm trying out a bit of an experiment - I've had Claude (and other models) building this for me: https://harmless.atomic14.com/It's an "Open Vibe Code" project - I won't be accepting any PRs, instead, open an issue https://github.com/atomic14/harmless/issues and I'll point claude at all the issues periodically and see what it does. The current game is very playable right now and has quite a few features. Push '?' to get the keyboard layout. Classic Elite was very keyboard heavy - it you played it when you were younger it will feel very familiar. If you've never played it... you'll pick it up soon enough!

Ask HN: What tasks cost money through a UI but are free in code?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49294288As someone who only recently started getting their feet wet thanks to vibe coding, I am kind of amazed at all the free tools out there. An example: ffmpeg (which I've used for a long time) is a classic case of "if you can figure it out, it's free; if you can't, I can sell you a shovel" with virtually every video downloader tool out there using it. Users who don't know about it must either rely on the shady tier of online video downloaders or pay for some of the better ones. I used to think there was a hard-coded limit to downloading files in 4K until I realised yt-dlp and ffmpeg existed.Another example: TIL the Bluesky Jetstream protocol is completely free, which is amazing to me because of all the data and inference you can get from it (similar APIs, albeit from much larger social datasets like Google Maps and X, are not free.It seems that the entry barrier to a lot of useful tools over the last two decades has been a minimal ability to code. Since that barrier has now dropped, would y
