Show HN: Jotchi, a smart scratchpad for the busy brainhttps://jotchi.com/appI love the idea of projects like Obsidian, but since I already have difficulty dealing with one brain, the idea of managing a second has never really worked for me.Since I'm always working on a bunch of stuff, I never really know if a particular piece of information will be important later or not. Ideally, I wanted a place that I could just dump notes into, and let the notepad itself organize everything in a clear and fast to navigate way.Ultimately, that lead to Jotchi, which became a sort of cell-based scratchpad. It's keyboard navigable, supports inline arithmetic (with units and re-calculation on edits,) connects to existing cloud storage providers, has Markdown support, and more. While there is an API and MCP server, Jotchi itself uses various heuristics to attempt to automatically organize your information. For example, typing similar notes in quick succession will automatically group them together, or typing a hex code will display it as a color. This happens way faster than an LAug 3, 2026 3:04 PM

Show HN: Christopher Nolan's Hymn to Athenahttps://jackcushman.org/writing/hymn-to-athena/Hi, HN! Did you know that Chris Nolan's casting of Tom Holland and Zendaya eerily echoes a 3000-year-old dance battle between Athena and Telemachus? I've been working on an art project that says so.If you like, it can be fun to go in blind with a strong research agent to sort out what this really is. Or there is a multi-layered CAPTCHA at the bottom that spells it out increasingly clearly. As a small spoiler: my day job is building reliable public data tools for a library. This piece draws on that background to try to make AI-native art -- fiction by and for humans who use AI agents as a source of truth. At best I hope it works as the kind of joke one Iain M. Banks Culture AI would tell another about humans.Aug 3, 2026 2:45 PM

Show HN: An interactive story about living on IRC in the '90shttps://eyearesee.winkingfig.comHi, HN. Long time lurker, first time poster.I'm a long time software engineer, and I started getting really into computers and the internet as a kid in the late 80s and early 90s. I started using IRC and Linux and just fell in love with everything about it.Before 2000 I stopped 'hacking' for several years because I thought I needed to get a real-world life and that only nerds were online. But ironically in the time that I was out of the game, online social networks became "cool" somehow, and every person on the planet developed an online persona.Anyhoo, I created a story about my experiences online (https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/146026/eye-are-see). As I was writing it I kept feeling like man, it would be really awesome to experience this again, so I developed (yes, with AI) a browser-based interactive experience that allows readers to play through the journey. If you were ever on IRC (e.g., DALNet, EFNet, Undernet, etc) or if you're just curious about out what it was like, check itAug 3, 2026 1:42 PM

This joins together all those into one report. Most surprising to me: 1. What a mega-hit KPop Demon Hunters was. The #2-5 ranked movies got ~500M hours viewed each, KPop Demon Hunters got 1081M. 2. How big old content is. Suits from 2011 is the #2 show on Netflix. Grey's Anatomy starting in 2005 is #3. Gilmore Girls from 2000 #4. 3. The "scale effect" where releasing a new season of a show engenders massive viewing of previous seasons. Stranger Things season 5 got 880M hours of viewing in H2 2025 when it released. But it caused 1200M additional hours of viewing of seasons 1-4. 4. Massive popularity of movies I had never heard of. Leave the World Behind, a movie I had never heard of, was the #2 movie of the last three years. It got ~100 minutes of watchtime per Netflix subscriber. Of the top 10 movies I had only heard of 3.This was vibe-coded, so could be incorrect, especially in details. I thiAug 3, 2026 1:13 PM
