Ask HN: How much better has Fable been at design, really?Hi Hacker News. We all know about the coming and going of Claude Fable. On X/Twitter, I have been seeing a lot of discourse about the great new capabilities it has, specifically for UI and design and game development.However, I suspect a lot of this is really just because we have never tried to attempt this with Claude Opus 4.8.For example, the Three.js scenes I keep on seeing: I feel like they could have been attempted with Opus 4.8 with just a bit more effort and prompting? For example, I've tried to use claude opus to understand a phd thesis in quantum physics from a friend. My background is in engineering and later compilers/static analysis. Despite opus helping a lot to give me the high level idea behind it, I could see a few problems with my lack of background: - I couldn't verify if opus was right or wrong in its explanations - Even when asking the AI to simplify explanations, there was so much prerequisite knowledge I needed to absorb that there was little point to bother with its output - It was very hard to collaborate with the AI to understand what predictions can be made f

I made a real-time minimalistic football game (in the lineage of HaxBall) in time for the championship, and thought to turn it into an actual multiplayer game polished for release. It should run in any browser, desktop/tablet/mobile as well and requiring no sign-up for instant play. If there are no people to fill in the slots (which will likely be the case as it's brand new) you can also choose to start with bots to play against. I tried to balance the bots so as not to be too "perfect" but not totally dumb either, enough to present a fun challenge -- but they'll still hit their own goal occasionally.From the technical side, physics is run authoritatively on the server, which was my initial design idea (since a lot of these run in peer-to-peer mode). That brings some interesting trade-offs between perceived lag and local prediction jankiness, which is one of the main points I'm interested to hear feedback about.
