Show HN: Slate, a to-do list shaped like your week, not an endless backloghttps://slate-todo.comSlate is a task planner that sits between a calendar and a to-do list. Tasks go on the day you actually plan to do them, no fake time blocks required, and anything not ready for a specific day yet sits in a separate backlog instead of cluttering the week.Easy to try: no sign-up wall to poke around (though more advanced AI features would not be accessible)I made this because I never trusted either extreme. A calendar makes you fake commit to a time slot... A to-do list takes anything with no judgment about what belongs this week, so it just grows forever. Some of the harder parts to get right:1- Sync + drag&drop: Drag and drop needed to feel instant, but everything also syncs live across devices through AppSync/DynamoDB with optimistic concurrency: Getting those two to not fight each other (a drag mid-flight racing a subscription echoing your own write back at you) took a few rewrites... crazy how those simple things can be so hard to get right.2- UI: keeping the UI minimalist and nice oJul 22, 2026 7:29 AM

US-India Satellite Delivers Data, Reveals ‘Hummingbird’ in Antarcticahttps://www.nasa.gov/missions/nisar/us-india-satellite-delivers-data-reveals-hummingbird-in-antarctica/As of July 20, the public can access data from the two powerful radar instruments aboard the NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite. Teams in the United States and India will release files processed from the satellite’s L-band and S-band radars on an ongoing basis, helping researchers and other users track the movement of Earth’s […]Jul 21, 2026 6:14 PM

Show HN: PMG, open source package firewallhttps://github.com/safedep/pmgHi HNI am the founder of SafeDep. We have been detecting malicious packages for a while. Coming from DevSecOps background, I always considered malicious package detection & protection to be a build stage problem. But I was wrong since the S1ngularity and early Shai-Hulud days.In 2026, we pretty much started worrying more about our own dev machines than CI/CD environment. Depending only on threat intelligence data (OSV / SafeDep / Socket / any other source) to protect our own dev machines did not feel right. We wanted to build a multi-layered protection that can get 100% visibility of OSS packages coming in, and can protect against known and “hopefully” unknown threats. That’s how Package Manager Guard (PMG) started. Core idea was simple:- Start a local proxy (localhost)- Make sure supported package managers like npm, pnpm, pip etc. goes through it- Use threat intelligence data to fail fast on known malicious packages- Apply policies like dependency cooldown as additional guardrails- AdJul 21, 2026 4:58 PM

Show HN: An MCP server that turns async-work practices into toolshttps://github.com/open-and-async/mcpMore than a decade ago, I adopted the self-imposed rule, if I answer a question more than once, the third time I need to be able to answer with a URL. Today, I published one very large URL - a book distilling what I learned from helping people work remotely at GitHub, and I wanted to rethink my rule for the age of AI.What if, instead of a URL, I could create an interactive experience that could tailor the guidance to your particular situation? What I ended up building was an Open and Async Advisor MCP server. To install (in claude or any other AI):> claude mcp add open-async -- npx -y @open-and-async/mcpTransparently, yes, it's from a book I wrote which launched today, but the MCP server is open source and free to use. No purchase required. It knows the key principles of the book, and has specialized tools like `draft_decision_doc`, `convert_meeting_to_async`, `score_status_update`, `triage_sync_vs_async`.This is an experiment for me, and I'm genuinely curious if it's helpful for othersJul 21, 2026 4:06 PM

If feasible, this concept would enable NASA to evaluate ice and ilmenite at the Moon, ore content at asteroids, and volatile-bearing minerals at Mars’ moons–all with a […]Jul 21, 2026 3:23 PM

Show HN: Velprium - Time Workspacehttps://www.velprium.com/Hi HN, I'm Minjae, a solo developer.- About two years ago, I came up with an idea and worked on it as a side project for about three months, but I had to quit because I was overwhelmed by my main job. However, when I recently used a coding agent to configure the specifications and have the development done, the implementation speed was incredibly faster than it was two years ago. So, I focused on refining the specifications and rode that momentum to launch the service in just two weeks.- The reason I developed Velprium was the problem of my data being scattered across multiple places when recording my day. Calendar, Notion, Obsidian, and various other collaboration tools...I even tried a paper bullet journal, but I failed every time I had to transfer notes between digital and analog formats. That led me to think, "What if I added Notion's properties to calendar events?" Traditional calendars consist of an x-axis representing time and a y-axis limited to just title and description. So I aJul 20, 2026 9:30 PM
