The strategic competition with China: winning the multi-domain racehttps://spacenews.com/the-strategic-competition-with-china-winning-the-multi-domain-race/History demonstrates military innovation continually rewrites the rules of combat, reshaping warfare and rendering strategies from past conflicts obsolete. Show HN: Imagerry – client-side image customizer and converter (WASM / WebGPU)https://imagerry.com/Hi HN! I built Imagerry (https://imagerry.com), a freemium, 100% client-side image converter and utility suite.### What it does till today:- 100% Client-Side: Zero file uploads, all processing happens locally using HTML5 Canvas & WebAssembly, though gpu is heavy on desktop apps. - Format Conversions & Resizing: PNG, WebP, AVIF, JPEG, SVG with high-quality Lanczos scaling (`pica`). - Utility Tools: Code Snippet Beautifier, App Icon Studio, Social OG Card Generator, and Passport Photo Arranger. - Cross-platform: Available as a PWA and desktop app (Electron).### Some Suggestions and tradeoff's for adding ?? :)I’m considering adding *local AI models* (such as in-browser AI image upscalers or background removers using ONNX Runtime Web / WebGPU) - by desktop apps preferable only.Since Imagerry focuses on privacy and zero cloud uploads, running models locally in the browser feels like a natural fit, but it comes with a *20MB–50MB initial model or even more depending on local model's download

Show HN: Machinations – a multiplayer strategy game where LLM is the game masterhttps://machinations.tpk.gg/I started by thinking about the game mechanics I actually wanted to see. I come from a long background in diceless tabletop RPGs, and what I loved about them was the GM improvising, making rulings on the spot. When LLMs came along, I saw a chance to build a mechanic that worked like that. But LLMs on their own are bad at it. They regress toward the mean and they try too hard to please the player. Nobody ever really fails. So I built a system (I won't name it, I'm not here to self-promote) around a 3d10 bell curve of outcomes. The dice decide how well an attempt goes, across a whole spread of grades from disastrous to legendary, and the LLM has to narrate whatever the dice say. That forces it to produce results the player won't like, which is where the drama comes from. With that in hand, I could resolve any conflict narratively. Two characters chasing the same goal, one trying to kill or rob the other, whatever. The roll leans the story in one direction or the other. Then I realized I ne

Show HN: PMG, open source package firewallhttps://github.com/safedep/pmgHi HNI am the founder of SafeDep. We have been detecting malicious packages for a while. Coming from DevSecOps background, I always considered malicious package detection & protection to be a build stage problem. But I was wrong since the S1ngularity and early Shai-Hulud days.In 2026, we pretty much started worrying more about our own dev machines than CI/CD environment. Depending only on threat intelligence data (OSV / SafeDep / Socket / any other source) to protect our own dev machines did not feel right. We wanted to build a multi-layered protection that can get 100% visibility of OSS packages coming in, and can protect against known and “hopefully” unknown threats. That’s how Package Manager Guard (PMG) started. Core idea was simple:- Start a local proxy (localhost)- Make sure supported package managers like npm, pnpm, pip etc. goes through it- Use threat intelligence data to fail fast on known malicious packages- Apply policies like dependency cooldown as additional guardrails- Ad

Show HN: An MCP server that turns async-work practices into toolshttps://github.com/open-and-async/mcpMore than a decade ago, I adopted the self-imposed rule, if I answer a question more than once, the third time I need to be able to answer with a URL. Today, I published one very large URL - a book distilling what I learned from helping people work remotely at GitHub, and I wanted to rethink my rule for the age of AI.What if, instead of a URL, I could create an interactive experience that could tailor the guidance to your particular situation? What I ended up building was an Open and Async Advisor MCP server. To install (in claude or any other AI):> claude mcp add open-async -- npx -y @open-and-async/mcpTransparently, yes, it's from a book I wrote which launched today, but the MCP server is open source and free to use. No purchase required. It knows the key principles of the book, and has specialized tools like `draft_decision_doc`, `convert_meeting_to_async`, `score_status_update`, `triage_sync_vs_async`.This is an experiment for me, and I'm genuinely curious if it's helpful for others

If feasible, this concept would enable NASA to evaluate ice and ilmenite at the Moon, ore content at asteroids, and volatile-bearing minerals at Mars’ moons–all with a […]

We propose a new approach to atmospheric sensing at 30-100 km altitudes using photophoretically levitating tracers. These lightweight structures harness sunlight to remain suspended for up to months at controlled altitudes and can be remotely tracked by satellite-based lidar or radar. Unlike natural aerosols, these tracers are designed to provide strong and […]

While thermal management solutions exist for large infrastructure, the smaller mobile systems that operate independently require improved temperature regulation devices that can survive without heaters or substantial power requirements, while limiting stress-inducing temperature fluctuations. Show HN: Velprium - Time Workspacehttps://www.velprium.com/Hi HN, I'm Minjae, a solo developer.- About two years ago, I came up with an idea and worked on it as a side project for about three months, but I had to quit because I was overwhelmed by my main job. However, when I recently used a coding agent to configure the specifications and have the development done, the implementation speed was incredibly faster than it was two years ago. So, I focused on refining the specifications and rode that momentum to launch the service in just two weeks.- The reason I developed Velprium was the problem of my data being scattered across multiple places when recording my day. Calendar, Notion, Obsidian, and various other collaboration tools...I even tried a paper bullet journal, but I failed every time I had to transfer notes between digital and analog formats. That led me to think, "What if I added Notion's properties to calendar events?" Traditional calendars consist of an x-axis representing time and a y-axis limited to just title and description. So I a

Show HN: VoxThermic – A macOS journaling app that uses Apple's Foundation Modelshttps://voxthermic.jbri.workers.dev/TL;DR version: I made a macOS journaling app that use Foundation Models to analyze entries for mood + written themes, and also has voice transcription, because I couldn't find any other journaling app that does those things.OK, now for the longer, I-rambled-too-much version:For the past few weeks I've been working on a macOS journaling app called VoxThermic. The idea for it came from my own journaling habits, where my mood tends to shift a lot depending on whatever I'm dealing with. I've tried some journaling apps, but I've never found one that can analyze mood or see how my mood changes depending on what I'm writing about. So I just figured I'd build it myself. I've been experimenting a lot with Apple's Foundation Models and Natural Language frameworks, and those all work on-device and offline (which is good because there's no way I'm sending journal entries to some AI company's data centers!)But there's one problem with using Foundation Models: they're tiny. About 3 billion parameters,
