Show HN: A mayor simulator where corruption is gameplayHi HN,We’re a small indie team working on a political sandbox game.It starts like a traditional city builder, but escalates into gang conflicts, media manipulation, elections and police investigations. One design challenge we’re facing:How do you make “illegal mechanics” feel like meaningful systems instead of gimmicks? We’re preparing for Next Fest and refining the core loop.Would love feedback on: - The core concept - Whether this feels niche or scalable - What would make this interesting long-termHappy to answer any technical or design questions.

Show HN: PolliticalScience – Anonymous daily polls with 24-hour windowsI have been building a Blazor WASM enterprise app for a few years now. I wanted a break from it and had an idea for a side project that had been in the back of my mind for a few years. A daily political poll where anyone can participate and privacy is a product, not a checkbox. This is how it works. One question per day about current events. Agree or Disagree. Each poll runs for 24 hours (midnight to midnight ET) and then close permanently. You do not need an account to vote. The main idea is to capture sentiment at a specific point in time, before the news cycle moves on and people's opinions drift. For this app, I tried to make privacy the point and not just a feature. I originally used a browser fingerprint for anonymous voting, but recently changed it to a simple first-party functional cookie. It uses a random string and the PollId to see if your browser had voted before. The server stores a hash of the cookie to check for duplicates while the poll is live, then deletes all hashes wh

Show HN: Candid – Your front-row seat to politicsHi HN! I’m Eric, the creator of Candid.I built Candid because I was exhausted trying to follow politics across 10 different apps, sites, and news sources - and still felt like I didn’t actually know what was going on on any of the issues I cared about.Political information is everywhere now, but it’s so fragmented across socials (Truth Social, X, TikTok, Instagram, Blue Sky, etc), government sites, and legacy media that it’s become harder than ever to follow. At the same time, Gen Z & Millennials like me will become the majority of voters by 2028. And we care more about getting news on issues rather than political party labels. The data exists. The modern interface doesn’t.So my cofounder and I built Candid - a nonpartisan political media app that makes politics easy and fun to follow, personalized to your issues with privacy, and way less toxic. We present primary source political content through custom news feeds built around your issues. What you can do in Candid: - Trump Feed & Trum

"Freedom of Speech" Exists – But "Freedom of Reach" Is a Black BoxI posted a link to a long-form article on X (Twitter). Impressions: single digits. Nothing was deleted. No warning. No ban. It simply didn’t reach anyone. At first glance this is easy to dismiss as “algorithm roulette.” But the same invisibility patterns show up across platforms:- YouTube political content gets quietly demonetized / de-ranked - External links on social feeds often underperform (sometimes dramatically) - LLMs (ChatGPT/Claude/etc.) tend to sanitize or avoid politically sharp topics - Search results for some queries feel oddly thin, stale, or SEO-floodedThis makes me wonder if we’re drifting into a new mode of discourse control: not classic “state censorship,” but incentive-driven soft suppression.Habermas called the democratic discourse space the “public sphere.” A hidden assumption in that model was simple: if you publish, people can actually see it. That assumption may be breaking.A rough model (feel free to tear this apart):1) Visibility layer (feeds / ranking / UI) -
