Next thing that happens, you find yourself in an editing loop: change this, fix there, explain your world in more detail.The chat window scroll bar shrinks to 2 pixels and the chapter gets worse every turn. A context window works fine if you keep talking about ever-changing topics. Show HN: I digitized 275 vintage citrus crate labels from my familys farmThis collection of California citrus crate labels was assembled over many years by my grandfather David Gerald Kelley (1928–2025), a lifelong citrus rancher and advocate for California agriculture. After his passing, the collection was entrusted to his son, Ken Kelley (my father), who later passed it down to me. This website was created to preserve and share the archive more broadly, and to make these pieces of California history accessible for others to study and enjoy.Some random notes:- Site is built with Next.js, fully hosted on AWS - All artwork is from my grandfathers collection and scanned by me - The essay was from a lost art exhibit in 1986 by the director of the Riverside Art Museum - The shop section is novel, using Three.js to show canvas prints, and leveraging a print-on-demand service with super high resolution imagesThis felt like somewhat of a calling for me to build as I'm _not_ a rancher, I'm a SWE. Presented in a well-designed format, similar to Yahoo but with higher IQ content.Like most, I listen to a lot of podcasts, but I wanted to connect the dots on different topics and read the parts which are interesting more deeply. Sharing bits and pieces with friends was also a motivating factor, as well as alerts which feed into my other pipelines.That said, I'm not sure which parts of the platform will resonate with users or not, so it's an experiment in progress.Technicals: I love my craft (both design, and code), so I took ample time to think about UX and design it in Figma. It's cookiecut from ample projects I have in Django and HTMX, and scaffolded my way through. Hosted on Digitalocean, and AI agnostic from an LLM perspective.
