Show HN: Live Kaiwa – real-time Japanese conversation supportI live in a rural farming neighborhood in Japan.Day-to-day Japanese is fine for me. But neighborhood meetings were a completely different level.People speak fast. There's local dialect. Someone references a flood from 1987, a land boundary dispute from 1994, and three people I've never met but everyone else knows. I would walk out feeling like I understood maybe 5% of what happened. So I built a tool for myself to help follow those conversations.Live Kaiwa listens to Japanese speech and, in real time, shows:* Japanese transcription * English translation * a running summary of what's being discussed * suggested responses you can say backThe idea is to help you stay oriented in complex conversations. You can try it here: https://livekaiwa.com---How it worksWhen you start a session, the browser microphone captures the conversation and streams audio. The pipeline looks roughly like this:1. Audio streaming - Browser microphone → WebRTC → server2. Speech to text - Kotoba Whisper runs a fast fir

Proposal: Global Solar-Offset Fractional Time (G-Soft) ModelOBJECTIVE: To replace the disruptive biannual one-hour clock shifts with a system of four scheduled 15-minute fractional adjustments. The proposed G-SOFT protocol aligns human activity with the natural seasonal drift of the sun in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres while maintaining global synchronization and returning to whole-hour UTC offsets for the majority of the year.RATIONALE: - Biological Integrity: A single 60-minute jump causes significant circadian disruption. G-SOFT’s 15-minute increments are virtually imperceptible to human biology, mimicking the body's natural ability to adapt to minor daily light changes. - Operational Stability: Gradual changes eliminate the "Monday after" productivity slump and the documented spike in heart attacks and workplace accidents associated with traditional one-hour DST transitions. - Hemispheric Optimization: G-SOFT allows the Northern and Southern Hemispheres to move in opposite directions simultaneously. This ensures both regions fo

Show HN: HDC-based function caller ranks #2 on BFCL V4 – $2.08 vs. Opus at $87I've been building Glyphh, a hyperdimensional computing runtime, for two years. This is the first HDC-based entry on the Berkeley Function Calling Leaderboard (BFCL V4), to my knowledge. The idea: LLMs run at build time to generate intent exemplars. At runtime, function routing is pure HDC vector math — sub-ms, zero tokens, deterministic. Claude Haiku handles argument extraction only. The model code is fully open source. Results: 74.50% overall (#2 behind Opus), 83.30% agentic (best on board, beating Opus), 88.71% non-live AST (top 3). Total eval cost: $2.08. Opus runs the same eval at $87 (results not yet verified by bfcl team). The README is transparent about where it struggles (multi-turn: 53.75%) and where the LLM does the work vs HDC. There's also an independent code review in the repo. Happy to answer anything about the architecture (https://glyphh.ai)

I'm struggling and I don't have anyone else to share this with except youI'm hurting in ways that I haven't in a long time. I work corporate, I'm in my 30s, support my wife and kids. I come to work every day and work hard, but more than that, I'm some who gets along with absolutely everyone. I listen to people. I elevate them. I validate them. That is just my personality type. But I keep finding out that people go out of their way to say something negative about me. The way I find out is through my boss. My boss then addresses it with me.Today I found out a former manager who worked here for only two months on our team told my boss that I was on my phone all day and taking call after call. I know what day this was because she even mentioned the topic I was talking about (i.e., I was getting a lumber quote for a personal project; call lasted maybe two minutes). That was the ONLY call I took that day, and I hate being on my phone during. So that was not true either.Another person "told" on me, saying that I'm in the bathroom too much and that I they saw me on

Show HN: Open-source browser for AI agentsHi HN, I forked chromium and built agent-browser-protocol (ABP) after noticing that most browser-agent failures aren’t really about the model misunderstanding the page. Instead, the problem is that the model is reasoning from a stale state.ABP is designed to keep the acting agent synchronized with the browser at every step. After each action (click, type, etc), it freezes JavaScript execution and rendering, then captures the resulting state. It also compiles the notable events that occurred during that action loop, such as navigation, file pickers, permission prompts, alerts, and downloads, and sends that along with a screenshot of the frozen page state back to the agent. The result is that browser interaction starts to feel more like a multimodal chat loop. The agent takes an action, gets back a fresh visual state and a structured summary of what happened, then decides what to do next from there. That fits much better with how LLMs already work.A few common browser-use failures ABP hel
