Ask HN: I've quit six systems for tracking my illness. What works?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49313346Hey everyone, I am a 20 year old college student who was recently diagnosed with seronegative spondyloarthropathy. Over the last 3 years, Ive tried apps, paper journal, Google Sheets, and notes to track/catalogue my journey. I always ended up quitting within 2-4 weeks and not keeping accurate track. Is this a common experience or do I just have to be better at tracking? Is there a unique/non habit-building way to track/catalogue/recall?Im building something for this (part of the reason why I am asking) - and if anyone is open to a longer conversation, Ill gladly pay for you time!Aug 15, 2026 7:09 PM

(I censored the F word, but it transcribed just fine.)TL;DR: LymeScribe is local speech to text for Mac and Windows: dictate into any app, or drop in a recording and get a transcript with speaker labels, and nothing goes to a server you don't own. On a machine that can handle it, it all runs right there. On anything that can't, or anywhere you'd rather keep transcription in one place, one computer does the work for the rest of the network. Show HN: Tried some experiments with architecture for Long term memory for LLMhttps://github.com/faisalhussain-devs/MindCache/tree/collapsed_treeThe main ideas that survived the experimentation are:using four memory types — user, knowledge, episodic, and decision memories, each with different lifecycles, different roles and different token budget in the retrieved context. Decision analysis + anchors — decisions can evolve overtime so they can be active or superseded or conditional instead of remaining as unrelated memories. we keep the track of decision memory which is active, superseded or conditional with additional context and using such active decisions related to the query as anchors to further retrieve memories using lexical bm25 often helps. Smart injection — New memories aren't simply assigned to a topic based on similarity. An LLM-guided ingestion step uses the existing topic structure as context to decide where a memory belongs and how it relates to what is already there. This lets the hierarchy grow dynamically instead of becoming a collection of isolated memory nodes.Hierarchical summaries — MindCache adapts the staAug 12, 2026 8:03 PM

Show HN: Argmin, challenges for optimizing hard problemshttps://argmin.devI want to share a project I've been working on called argmin.dev. It's a platform for hard optimization problems where a solution can be checked deterministically. For a bit of background, I've always found these types of problems interesting. The really difficult optimization problems where techniques like gradient decent don't work, or where even finding a feasible solution is difficult (e.g. square packing). I've worked on these independently for fun and have created this project as a way to share the problems I find interesting with the community. I am curious to see how far others can push these. Each challenge is defined by its verifier, a program that will enforce the constraints, and evaluate the objective function. The verifiers are open-source per challenge, so users can check their solutions against it before submitting. The platform keeps a record of submissions and will update the leaderboard each time someone finds a new record. Because the verifier is the spec, any loopholAug 11, 2026 4:51 PM

Show HN: Try Benzi – A coding harness/agent beating Claude Code itself on Sonnethttps://benzi.fly.dev/aboutHi y'all. Been working on something that should've been made a long time ago imo. It compiles codebases into O(1) hashmaps that the agent queries to discover the structure of your code/answer questions/write code.It also does complete static analysis checks on any writes the agent makes.Don't take my word for it though. Here are the benchmarks: https://benzi.fly.dev/benchmark. on 2/20 tests, Claude Code (mostly Sonnet on one task) regressed or timed out. Benzi didn't because of course, it has a map it can query and not get lost in the sauce. On the other 18 it is cheaper, faster, or often both.Would love to get some early adoption and criticism!(Only available on Windows for now. soz. and also keep an eye on the benchmarking page; I think I can push it far more -- no promises, still work in progress. Haven't thoroughly tested greenfielding experience either.)(another note: VS Code extension/website is running DeepSeek V4 flash. not Sonnet. Everything mostly built with CC Sonnet tho )Aug 8, 2026 10:47 PM

Show HN: Neal – Codex writes the code, Claude reviews ithttps://github.com/navels/nealneal is a CLI I wrote while trying to use an LLM coding agent (in this case, Codex GPT-5.4) to work autonomously on a migration of our large frontend codebase. A few things came up during that project that guided the development of neal:1. Telling an agent to "keep working unless blocked" doesn't actually work over long stretches of time.2. Large projects should be broken up into smaller chunks of work.3. The coding agent should start each chunk of work with a fresh context to prevent context rot.4. The coding agent benefits from having a different agent doing adversarial reviews along the way. What I ended up with is an orchestrator that- lets you configure planner, coder, and reviewer roles. I started with Codex and Claude using their SDKs but later added OpenRouter as well as a compatibility mode for verifying that a model can handle the orchestration. Currently there are 44 compatible OpenRouter models.- runs a plan that you provide through a planner / reviewer loop which splits theAug 4, 2026 1:14 PM

There is something for everyone: war stories, hacking techniques, the word “boustrophedonic” and, as bonus, an outdoor game to keep your kids awaAug 2, 2026 2:40 PM
