Show HN: Tried some experiments with architecture for Long term memory for LLMhttps://github.com/faisalhussain-devs/MindCache/tree/collapsed_treeThe main ideas that survived the experimentation are:using four memory types — user, knowledge, episodic, and decision memories, each with different lifecycles, different roles and different token budget in the retrieved context. Decision analysis + anchors — decisions can evolve overtime so they can be active or superseded or conditional instead of remaining as unrelated memories. we keep the track of decision memory which is active, superseded or conditional with additional context and using such active decisions related to the query as anchors to further retrieve memories using lexical bm25 often helps. Smart injection — New memories aren't simply assigned to a topic based on similarity. An LLM-guided ingestion step uses the existing topic structure as context to decide where a memory belongs and how it relates to what is already there. This lets the hierarchy grow dynamically instead of becoming a collection of isolated memory nodes.Hierarchical summaries — MindCache adapts the staAug 12, 2026 8:03 PM

Show HN: Experiments with Weather Datahttps://strataweather.com/mapI had been wanting to try experimenting with nowcasting since the death of Dark Sky and finally got around to it. This application essentially became a playground for me to experiment with various weather datasets and geospatial visualizations. Some interesting concepts that came from it:The nowcast is using pySTEPS optical flow under the hood: https://pysteps.readthedocs.io/en/latest/auto_examples/plot_.... This library is super cool. It bugged me that every radar visualization just gave you choppy snapshots in time, so I spent some time working on building a smooth interpolation. The backend passes keyframes along with motion data from the optical flow analysis and then has a custom WebGL shader to do the interpolation which lets you scrub the timeline and have a smooth interpolation. The other forecast tiles and the main weather page are using the average of many different weather models. You can see every model that factors in on the models page: https://strataweather.com/models. ThiJul 29, 2026 11:52 AM

Show HN: Pgconverge – An experimental multi-master PostgreSQL framework in Gohttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48796668Hi HN,Over the past few months I've been building pgconverge, an experimental open-source framework for operating multi-master PostgreSQL clusters. The project started as a learning exercise to better understand distributed databases rather than as an attempt to replace PostgreSQL's existing replication model. My goal was to explore what it would take for multiple PostgreSQL nodes to accept writes independently while eventually converging without relying on a designated primary database. Over time, the experiment evolved into a working open-source framework. Some of the areas I explored include:full-mesh replication topology conflict resolution using Last-Write-Wins Hybrid Logical Clocks for ordering concurrent writes bootstrapping new nodes into an existing cluster declarative cluster configurationGithub Link: https://github.com/sobowalebukola/pgconvergeAlong the way I documented the design decisions in a seven-part engineering series:Why Multi-Master? Ask HN: Is anyone experimenting with different ways of using LLMs for coding?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48771515I'm a bit annoyed by the feeling that we're kind of stuck when it comes to using LLMs for programming.I use Claude Code and Codex, but I haven't been able to enter flow state like I can when I hand write code. This is kind of ironic to me since AI should be a bicycle for the mind, but right now it feels like a bicycle that just brakes abruptly every couple minutes. I stop, wait, review, prompt again. Is there anyone exploring something fundamentally different than the prompt response loop we have today?I actually think the idea of a tab model is directionally better than prompt response.Would love to hear about any startups, personal experiments, etc.Jul 3, 2026 6:21 AM
