I don’t have a CS background — previously worked climbing cell towers and doing handyman jobs — but I spent the last 4.5 months building a hybrid memory system from scratch.The system combines FAISS, BM25, and a symbolic ranking layer (MCA). Answers are generated with GPT-4o-mini at temperature 0. The focus is determinism, transparency, and reproducibility rather than model size.On the official LoCoMo benchmark (1,540 questions), the system reaches 80.1% average accuracy. To my knowledge, that’s above the publicly reported results for existing agent-memory stacks using small models.Latency is ~2.5 seconds, and cost is ~$0.10 per 1M tokens. I know enough Python/Django to be dangerous and have built a working proof-of-concept / demo. Here is a little background on me: An amateur coder who spends many hours every day on his laptop (although recently I haven't been doing enough coding practise). I'm left handed, mainly stick to ubuntu and tend to use gvim, I hardly ever use emacs. I looked up "emacs pinky", but this seems to be associated with pain in the finger (here's a nice picture http://www.flickr.com/photos/gabrielsaldana/4468068807/in/photostream/). I had a quick look at carpal tunnel syndrome, but this is associated with the median nerve. The pinky is innervated by the ulnar nerve, and I can't recall any injuries in the past few days. Also over the last few months I have made an effort to keep a reasonable sitting position when typing. Anyone with similar experiences?
