Ask HN: Have your coding agents finished work you no longer wanted?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49409147Sometimes I start several coding agents at the same time, each working on a different task. I just let them go and don’t watch them closely. The problem is that I may change my mind later but forget that one of the agents is still working toward the old goal. A couple of hours later, it submit a patch with all tests passing and reports that the job is done. But when I check the result, I find that it has finished implementing a plan I had already abandoned.Has anyone else who uses multiple coding agents run into this? How do you handle agents that keep working after your plan changes? Do you cancel them manually, use a shared task list to track the current work, or simply work out during final review? How do you distinguish between “an agent run has finished successfully” and “the actual work is done”?Aug 23, 2026 2:30 PM

Show HN: Self-Hosted Social Media Agents with Raspberry Pihttps://www.microphone.computer/A while back I posted about a project I was working on for a real-time voice agent that runs ads on Meta to build conviction and prioritize side gig/business ideas (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48900788); you yammer away and it automates market research, problem statements and hypotheses. I've been working with some folks from HN on the app since then. What we've been focused on building is a modern solo-founder GTM tool -- figuring out how to triangulate aspiration, problems only you can solve, and organic distribution in one solution. So, not building apps; but rather helping you figure out what you like and then connect you with the right people that can help you on your journey and find the communities to help you distribute it.For the latter, I was impressed by the recent Grok bot launch; but didn't want Elon accessing all of our accounts to train on -- so I set-up dockerized social media agents that run at home on a Raspberry Pi. They'll do the same job as Grok for this buAug 23, 2026 2:24 PM

Ask HN: Will AI trigger mass IP protectionism in software?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49408691One of the reasons AI is so "good" at software development is that it is trained on a snapshot of a large corpus of already solved software problems. In the future, wouldn't that make anyone who produces original code become more cautious of sharing it, being aware that it will just be fed into the "hive mind" and they'll never get any attribution or financial gain out of it?Or has the value of code, tools and software become so cheap it doesn't really matter anymore?Aug 23, 2026 1:24 PM

Ask HN: What a fullstack dev should know about security?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49408476Hi all,I am asked to help a fullstack dev team (Spring+Angular) to skill up in term of security.I am skeptical about fullstack profiles, how many fullstack devs knows in depth display:flex and in the same time transaction isolation level ?So as fullstack devs they are not supposed to become cyber-security experts in their company but since they don't have a cyber-security expert they must level up so they don't put their company at risk. Even if they hire one they must know all the basics that are related to development so they will be able to follow their cyber-security expert recommendations. They are not newbies, for instance they know about sql injection. Here is my checklist (I'll help them to learn all of that), what to you think ? There will be half theory and half practice.Introduction * Cryptography and security: two distinct domains. * Wording: hashing, encryption, key, certificate, signature, foward secrecy, CVC, zero thrust. * OWASP Top Ten 2025 and CWC Top 25 2025. * SecuriAug 23, 2026 12:54 PM

Show HN: linecast – weather, radar, tides and maps in the terminalhttps://terminaltrove.com/linecast/I've been working on linecast, a free and open source collection of six terminal applications: weather, radar, sunshine, moon, tides, and maps. It's as if the Old Farmer's Almanac was built for Minitel.I made it because I'd been using the terminal a lot more over the past couple of years, I'm opinionated about weather forecast IA and design, and I liked the idea of making useful little terminal desk ornaments. The applications use ANSI color and Unicode braille characters rather than graphics. They reflow as the terminal is resized and derive their colors from your current terminal palette, including when the theme changes while they're running. They're mouse friendly where it makes sense. There's no account or required API key. Forecasts and air quality come from Open-Meteo; alerts, tides, and radar use various public sources; Sun and Moon positions are calculated locally; and the maps use OpenStreetMap-derived vector data and public elevation tiles. Show HN: Opensourcing Lemmaflow – A trust harness for AI-native appshttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49407337Hi HN, I am introducing Lemmaflow (https://github.com/lemmaflow/lemmaflow) - an open source harness to build & production applications with trust. We all are using AI to ship applications but most of the time the app itself is not safe for the end user. It might leak data, it might violate GDPR, it might ignore cookies. The trust problem is the primary reason why there's still a huge gap in what can be shipped by an experienced dev with AI vs one who is just vibecoding.Lemmaflow tries to cut this gap by introducing a set of 200+ implementable policies and run audits and tell Claude to exactly build trustworthy apps.Do give this a try.Aug 23, 2026 9:32 AM
