Ask HN: Is writing code by hand still a necessary skill for developers?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48034901TLDR - My question is: For experienced developers, is writing code from scratch still a core skill worth learning? Is the future of development just using AI agents to orchestrate everything and just reviewing, debugging, giving specs, verifying, etc...?Rest of the information:I’m a full-stack "developer" trying to understand my career in the age of AI.I didn’t study CS, so I have a non-traditional background. I've also never worked with other developers until recently. I came from graphic design/web dev work (Wordpress, CSS, some JS, some PHP), did HTML email development for a bit (awful black magic), scripting/automations to help a content migration for a year, and now I have a full-stack role at a small company.I now work with everything. Backend, frontend, infrastructure, CI/CD, integrations. Mostly "Hey this is broken" - my job is to fix it. I understand some of the fundamentals well enough to be productive. I can read code, improve it (usually), and mostly explain what needs to haMay 6, 2026 11:15 AM

Ask HN: How do you pilot a service company full of AI agents?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48026033I've been running my small service company (marketing agency) with a ton of AI agents for a few months now. Got NanoClaw running (OpenClaw-like) with custom automations, tools connected, agents doing some work for me. It's amazing when it works. But there's a missing piece i can't find, at the cross road between interface and AI backend.A single Slack/Telegram doesn't work when you're on 10 topics at the same times. Terminal is great but has no memory. Nothing works if you actually want to pilot your company with agents. In an ideal words i would need to approve tasks the AI is suggesting, run benchmarks on new automations and skills, navigate my knowledge, manage who on my team can trigger what, access what, and have everything running on my claude code subscription (ofc haha)What I'm missing feels like a desktop app, part cockpit, part Obsidian, part approval queue, part agent manager, part team dashboard, part kanban boardIs this already being built somewhere? But what if it could feel more alive? What if you no longer had to refresh it several times a day. What if you could just leave the site open and have stories automatically refresh and visually move when rank changes? What if it had a ticker showing new posts alongside the top posts?I built RNKFlow.com (Rank Flow) to make that happen. Using the official HN API, the site will feel familiar yet different. Leave the site up for a bit and watch the magic happen. Stories move position, new comments are highlighted, top risers stand out, and new stories scroll along the footer. One of the many cool features... Show HN: Probus, AI vuln scanner (PRs merged in Vercel AI SDK, n8n, LangGraph)https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48022411Hi HN, I've been running this on my own dependency tree for the past few months. Probus is a vulnerability scanner that uses three agents. One picks the files worth deep-scanning. One writes raw findings. The third reads the code on its own and rejects any finding that doesn't have a real attack vector. While building it I pointed it at projects I use day to day. Bugs that came out of this and got reported as PRs:n8n: password-reset JWTs being logged at debug level (n8n-io/n8n#29405) Vercel AI SDK: role: "system" injection in createAgentUIStream, a runtime schema bypass in ToolLoopAgent, and a prototype-property collision in getMediaTypeFromUrl (vercel/ai#14749, #14750 merged, #14751 merged) LangGraph.js: NoSQL injection in MongoDBSaver via unvalidated thread_id / checkpoint_ns / checkpoint_id types (langchain-ai/langgraphjs#2353) browser-use: path traversal in remote-fetched templates.json fields (browser-use/browser-use#4777) Haystack: SSRF and arbitrary file read via unrestricted OpMay 5, 2026 1:39 PM
