Template for telling the truth on layoffs like at Blockhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47178248For the people who have been laid off, I think the letter by Jack is a disservice. So I crafted a more direct letter. Hope future letters follow this approach.Today we are making one of the hardest decisions in the history of our company: we are reducing our organization by nearly half, from over 10,000 people to just under 6,000. This means over 4,000 of you will be leaving the company.I want to be incredibly direct with you about why this is happening. The Reality of the DecisionFirst, let’s be clear: you are not being replaced by AI. The technology is not better than you, and it didn't "outwork" you. The truth is simpler and more frustrating: we planned a specific strategic direction, and it didn't work out. We over-extended, and we now need to course-correct to keep the business viable. However, we operate in a market that demands a specific kind of "success" story. If we simply announced that we missed our targets and need to cut costs, the market would react with volatility, punish

Nano Banana 2 Is Really Coming! Here's How to Access It Earlyhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47178063If you've been using Nano Banana Pro for image generation, you already know it's been the strongest model in its class since launch. Now Nano Banana 2 is coming, and early preview samples are already circulating. Here's what we know so far and how to get access to itWhat’s New & Upgraded 1. Pro Intelligence at Flash Speed and price: NB2 delivers quality close to Pro while keeping generation times in line with the Flash tier, standard generations clock in at under two seconds, with pricing significantly lower than Nano Banana Pro. 2. Precision Text Rendering: Inheriting major upgrades from the Pro version, NB2 renders crisp, accurate text for marketing assets, UI/UX wireframes, and product labels. It also supports seamless translation and localization of text already existing within an image. 3. Large-Scale Subject Consistency: Maintain identity across up to 5 characters and 14 distinct objects within a single workflow. This is a massive leap compared to the original Nano Banana. 4. Rea

Show HN: MotionDesk: Physics-driven, Metal-accelerated wallpapers for macOShttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47176988I built MotionDesk, an aesthetic macOS wallpaper app that uses Metal shaders and native display APIs rather than playing a video file in the background, which is what most wallpaper engines do.The app renders wallpapers that respond to your environment in real time. A few of the modes (16 total):- Physics-based + Interactive: your cursor disturbs magnetic fields or contour fields rendered on the desktop. (These 2 modes are free forever)- Weather: You can have it rain, snow, thunder, etc on your desktop, or even pull live weather data and have your weather app basically be your wallpaper.- Liquid glass overlay: a refraction effect applied over your existing wallpaper.- Space: Travel through stars (more items such as blackholes being added soon)- Dock plants: places cute flowers and cactus on your dock :)- and more: Glyph swarm (popular), ASCII Field (popular), Smoke, Tide, Pulse Rings, Neon Wireframe, Net, Math, DNA.PerformanceThis was a hard constraint from the start. The app currently

Show HN: Selling my painting to fund a Steam Cleaning startup in Libyahttps://juicebox.money/v5/base:139https://postimg.cc/MvDdsVtHMy name is Ali, from Libya. I was working as a derrickman in a private oil company, but without an official contract, health insurance, or any legal appointment. I worked in this company out of necessity because I found no other option or any other work. In this company, I suffered a work injury that forced me to completely stop working. Before my injury, I had accumulated debts that I was paying off regularly through my work, which was my only source of income. However, after suffering a severe knee injury (lateral ligament tear) during work, the company abandoned me completely without any support or compensation. From last September until today, I have been completely unemployed and without any source of income. This matter forced me to stop paying my old debts, and new debts accumulated after the injury to cover basic living expenses and medical needs. This has led to my total bankruptcy. I painted this painting, "Red Jellyfish Roses," during the final mon

Show HN: AI that turns CSV files into structured executive analysishttps://www.introspectdigital.com/I’ve been building a tool called Introspect. The core idea:Most CSV tools visualise data. Most AI tools summarise data.Very few consistently interpret data in a way that feels executive-ready.Introspect takes a CSV and generates: • An executive summary grounded in the actual dataset • Structured, tagged insights (risk, concentration, change, opportunity, etc.) • Primary driver analysis • Visualisations tied directly to interpretive claims • A strategic conclusion layer • Regeneration that reframes the narrative from a new analytical angleThe important part isn’t “AI summary.”It’s enforced analytical structure. The AI layer is constrained to: • The actual headers and sampled rows • Deterministic chart logic • Insight density requirements • Structural normalization before renderIf the AI under-produces, fallback logic guarantees: • A minimum number of meaningful insights • Non-generic observations tied to row/column counts • No empty dashboardsThe regeneration feature is particularly inter

Brave New Smart Phone Dependence World and Google Supporthttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47173467tl;dr: I've spent countless hours with Google Support, but the support process has completely failed.I was originally offered a mail-in repair (RMA) to my old address in Germany, but I've left that country and cannot receive the package there. Maybe I am the first digital nomad with Google products? I don't know... :(Despite confirming my new location in Turkey, I was told by a supervisor that an Advance Exchange replacement cannot be shipped to me because the Pixel 10 was not launched in Turkey. But the supporter before told me to delete my payment profile from Germany. Now, what?!Google does not offer a loaner device, meaning I am left without a necessary smartphone for critical functions (payments, travel, communication) while the device is sent for a 7+ day repair (if I could even send it in). The issue is just a small crack which made the fingerprint sensor unusable. Apple can repair such things on the spot in the whole world...My health and livelihood are being severely impacted

A Phase-Ordered Pre-Geometric Projection Framework (Physics)https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47173402I’m an engineering leader in the tech industry, but my primary research focus outside of work is theoretical physics. I recently published an independent paper formulating a Phase-Ordered Pre-Geometric Projection (POPGP) framework. As the computational world hits the limits of discrete mathematics, I wanted to explore how continuous physical systems—specifically thermodynamic and continuous field equations—natively resolve spatial topologies and boundaries. I would love to get feedback from the physics and math communities here on the boundary conditions I used in the derivations. Happy to answer any questions or take brutal critique on the math. You can read the paper via the DOI here: https://zenodo.org/records/18728240

Show HN: pg_stream – incremental view maintenance for PostgreSQL in Rusthttps://github.com/grove/pg-streampg_stream is a PostgreSQL 18 extension that keeps materialized views current incrementally — no external infrastructure, no separate streaming pipeline. You define a stream table (a SQL query + a freshness bound) and the extension derives a delta query that processes only changed rows on each refresh cycle: SELECT pgstream.create_stream_table( 'regional_totals', 'SELECT region, SUM(amount) AS total, COUNT(*) AS cnt FROM orders GROUP BY region', '1m', 'DIFFERENTIAL' ); One INSERT into a million-row table → pg_stream touches one row's worth of computation. Query it like any regular table. How it works: - Trigger-based CDC captures row changes into buffer tables inside the same transaction (no wal_level = logical required) - A background worker walks a topological DAG of stream tables and fires refreshes in dependency order - The DVM engine (differential view maintenance, DBSP framework) rewrites your SQL into a delta query at definition time — JOINs, GROUP BY, CTEs, window functions, LATER

Show HN: Smplogs – Local-first AWS Cloudwatch log analyzer via WASMhttps://www.smplogs.comsmplogs analyzes your AWS CloudWatch log exports (Lambda, API Gateway, ECS) and turns them into severity-ranked findings, root cause analysis, and log signature clusters. The entire analysis engine is written in Go, compiled to WebAssembly, and runs client-side. Your log content never leaves your browser. Why I built this: I got tired of the CloudWatch debugging loop - staring at raw log streams, writing ad hoc Insights queries, mentally correlating timestamps across invocations, and still not understanding why my Lambda was failing. I wanted something where I could drop a file and immediately see "94% of your failures occur within 200ms of a DynamoDB ProvisionedThroughputExceededException - switch the Payments table to on-demand capacity." Actual root causes, not just "error rate is high."Technical approach: The core engine is a Go binary compiled to WASM (~analysis.wasm). At build time, Vite computes its SHA-256 hash and bakes it into the JS bundle. At runtime, the browser fetches the

Show HN: Ryvos – Autonomous AI assistant in Rust(15MB RAM,50 tools,16 providers)https://ryvos.devHi HN,I've been building Ryvos for the past few months — an open-source autonomous AI assistant written in Rust. It's the thing I wished existed: always-on, multi-channel, and actually secure. The core idea: every tool call passes through a SecurityGate — 5 tiers of classification, 9 dangerous pattern regexes (rm -rf, DROP TABLE, curl|bash, etc.), Docker sandboxing, and human-in-the-loop approval for anything risky. Skills run in Lua/Rhai sandboxes, not raw system code. We've all seen what happens when AI assistants run community code without any vetting. What it does: - Talk to it on Telegram, Discord, Slack, web dashboard, or terminal - 50 built-in tools (shell, file I/O, web search, grep, edit, browser...) - 16 LLM providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Ollama, Groq, Gemini, Azure, Cohere, Mistral...) - MCP-native (stdio + SSE/Streamable HTTP) - Drop-in skills in Lua/Rhai with sandboxed execution - Ships as a single ~20MB static binary - 15-30MB RAM idleQuick install: curl -fsSL https://raw.gi

Is Amazon Shipping Broken for Everyone?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47166112I have recently had a whole series of amazon shipping failures. I order a set of 16 packages, got one. Talked to customer service got one again. Ordered a thing that said it would arrive on Tuesday, once I bought it, the order said Friday (+3 days). My last small order is lost in a maze of shipping status messages that are clearly fantasy. It said it was to be delivered the next day, but had not really shipped. Now seems to be lost and Amazon only can deal with delivered items. It has no option for help with items lost in delivery. My sense is that the fantasy of Amazon is now falling apart. They provide shipping status that is dishonest. Is this just an unlucky streak for me? Do they not like me anymore? Or is it for everyone?

Show HN: Novyx – Memory API for AI agents (rollback, replay, semantic search)https://www.novyxlabs.com/Hey HN — Blake here. We built Novyx because every AI agent framework treats memory as an afterthought. Agents forget between sessions, can't search what they know, and when they make bad decisions there's no way to understand why. Novyx is a memory API for AI agents. Store observations, recall them with semantic search, and roll back when things go wrong. What it does: - Store + Recall — Semantic search over agent memories using sentence embeddings. Recency-weighted scoring, auto-linking related memories via knowledge graph. - Rollback — Point-in-time rollback with dry-run preview. Undo bad writes without redeploying. - Replay — Time-travel debugging. Reconstruct what your agent knew at any timestamp. Diff memory states between two points. Track individual memories from birth to death. - Cortex — Autonomous memory maintenance. Consolidates near-duplicate memories, reinforces frequently recalled ones, decays forgotten ones. Runs in the background. - Audit trail — Compliance-grade loggin

Show HN: BreakMyAgent – Open-source red-teaming sandbox for LLM system promptshttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47165464As a developer, I got tired of manually testing my AI agents and chatbots against the same prompt injections and jailbreaks every time I tweaked a system prompt. Our QA team was struggling with the exact same bottleneck, so I built BreakMyAgent. It’s an open-source sandbox that runs an automated barrage of standard exploits against your target LLM to see if it leaks data or ignores core instructions. How it works under the hood: - The UI is built with Streamlit, backend is FastAPI, and dependency management is handled by `uv`. - You paste your system prompt and hit run. It fires 12 baseline attack vectors (Direct leaks, XSS payloads, Context overflows, etc.) concurrently. - The core mechanic is "LLM-as-a-Judge". It uses a hardcoded `gpt-4.1-mini` with strict alignment rules to systematically evaluate the target's responses. - It supports OpenAI, Anthropic, and a solid list of open-weight models via OpenRouter (including DeepSeek V3/R1, Qwen 2.5, and Llama 3.3).There is a hosted free vers
