Ask HN: Are We Getting Dumber?I have a very accomplished relative who I trust a lot and has been a role model for me. I've always trusted their judgement and they've never steered me wrong to date. I was recently having a conversation with them about sort of everything. During the conversation I essentially asked what separates success from failure (it was an open ended across the board kind of question) and their response was "critical thinking skills".Seems like I simple answer, but I've also always felt the same way. Show HN: PrintBlocks – API and MCP server for your thermal printerI have been dreaming of a local assistant without a screen or chat window as an interface for a long time. An agent I could just speak to to research a topic or keep me updated. Unfortunately, it turns out audio is not a suitable output medium for every use case, e.g. a news briefing, an email inbox digest, a recipe or many other things. So I built PrintBlocks: a self-hosted service that exposes an API and an (optional) MCP server. Simply hook up your OpenClaw or Hermes agent (or whatever agent harness you're using) via MCP. It can compose the content and layout, then send the finished result to your thermal printer, all by itself!The surprising part is how good LLMs are at this. Ask for a morning briefing, and a few seconds later you can have a beautifully designed little document sitting next to your coffee. To make it easier the dashboard ships with an estimator of the performance expected at runtime depending on the parameters picked.I've also started to add my outputs verification system that triggers when the GPUs are idling, so that at runtime the predictions can run fast, and get flagged later on for continuous improvement.Really looking forward to see if it that can help someone!

Installation is a single line, standard text and accessibility affordances are unchanged, and users with JS disabled get native browser rendering.I made justif because I've long been a fan of justified text. I think it looks clean and elegant, and makes reading more enjoyable. But bad justification is the opposite, with gaping spaces that distract me to the point of making the text near unreadable.Browsers have got better recently at handling justified text [0][1], but still use suboptimal greedy algorithms for the most part, and are not near that TeX/InDesign level of quality that I crave. `text-wrap: pretty` exists but is far from a panacea, as you can see for yourself in the demo.Justif also has the benefit of providing more consistent text layout across browsers. How Google decided to Destroy its Search MonopolyThis is a bit of a rant, yet it's one I think is rightly deserved.Over the last several months, Google has exploded with:* extreme delays in rendering search results* popups of captcha + prove you're human, for simple searches* extreme delays in doing anything after hitting enter on searchInstead of taking 100ms or less to return search results, it now takes 5+ seconds, 10+ seconds sometimes. Often with a captcha in between.This 100% isn't me. I've noticed these changes, discussed with others, and it's happening to people across a wide swath of industry, and situations. Co-workers at home. Elderly parents. People at workplaces. The list goes on.This is worst at night, and of course that's when I tend to work the most. Show HN: OSS Pi Agent for Slack and LinearWe've been using a now-discontinued version of pi-mom from the pi monorepo for a few months now. Digby is a slackbot which you can also assign Linear issues to. It has a private (Sign In with Slack, locked to your team) wiki and can serve raw assets. It's pi, so it's self-modifying and self-improving.This isn't enterprise-grade, super secure stuff, but really a pi session anyone can use and one can works really well. Out of the box it deploys (and redeploys itself when PRs merge) itself to AWS on a small container. Runs on Claude Sonnet on Bedrock, but can use any Bedrock model easily. If you give it a Github token it'll open PRs to your codebase on its own behalf (or whoever owns the token -- very much advise you give it its own account). It can sign you into MCPs, and open its own browsers using Browser Use. Most importantly, it's very easy to fork and extend and make your own.We've been slowly improving a lot of the sharp edges the original pi-mom came with, to the point it's usable
