Show HN: A tool that intentionally makes you forget your Screen Time passcodehttps://waittounlock.com/iOS Screen Time is a fantastic app blocker because it's built into the OS, unlike third party apps that can simply be uninstalled. The only problem is that it uses a 4 digit passcode. If I set the passcode myself, I can always override my app limits by tapping ignore limit and entering the screetime passcode. So I built WaitToUnlock.com. It's a simple website that generates a random ScreenTime passcode and guides you through entering it in a deliberately confusing way (for example: "enter 3, enter 7 + 2, delete it, now enter 5..."), making it very difficult to remember the final code. The passcode is then securely stored away. If you need it back, you can request it, but you have to wait at least 6 hours before it's revealed. That way, you can still get your passcode back if you really need it, but it removes the ability to override the app limits the moment the temptation strikes.Aug 22, 2026 8:17 PM

Ask HN: How does a theory of simulated reality not undermine itself?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49402696Bostrom’s and other popular arguments for simulation theory seem to rely heavily of the premise “post human civilizations could run vast numbers of ancestor simulations.” and makes probabilistic assertions with that in mind. However, those premises come from our physics and computer science. If the conclusion is true, that physics describes the simulation, not the substrate, so we have no basis for the feasibility claim about the base level nor the basis to distinguish artifacts of a non simulated physical environment from a simulated physical environment. The argument undermines the foundation it builds upon. Bostrom is certainly smarter than I am but I can’t get past this obvious non starter.Aug 22, 2026 7:01 PM

Show HN: Knowl – CLAUDE.md hit 1000 lines, so I built memory that prunes itselfhttps://github.com/dat999zx/knowlUsing AI agents is amazing, but in long-term, I started to have more and more problems about the context of them. They keep forgetting what we are working on, opening a new chat session clears all their context, my CLAUDE.md had like 1000 lines. So I thought to install those agent memory that are on the market. Started out great, but I noticed that those memory only append and does not fix what is stale. First day I told it to use Lemon Squeezy as our MoR but second day I tell it to change to Polar. But when I ask it again, they keeps returning both answers or cannot decide which we are using. That's why I created Knowl. Knowl solves the problem with freshness of the knowledge. It split the knowledge into small data bits called "atom". Atoms can be of the following types: fact, decision, goal, constraint, architecture, state, skill so we can retrive atoms in categories. When conflict happens at write-time (a new atom conflicts with an old one), Knowl retires the old one (flag it with supeAug 22, 2026 2:13 PM

Show HN: Forst – migrate TypeScript back ends to Go incrementallyhttps://forst-lang.org/docsOver the past ~1.5 years I've been working on this programming language called Forst with the primary goal of replacing TypeScript on the backend.I'd seen many times that running JavaScript on the backend often leads to memory spikes, especially when handling larger data structures, and other inefficiencies due to over-usage of the heap and being restricted to one core by default. So I wanted more efficient native code to replace it but also figured that it's often simply too risky and time consuming to rewrite entire codebases in Go, Rust, or others. This idea led the design. By now, Forst is interoperable with Node, so you can call Forst code from Node via IPC or an HTTP sidecar, and even call existing TS code from Go if you're running a Node process as a child process of your Forst host process. These features enable an incremental migration of parts of your codebase rather than having to go all-in immediately. It started out as a transpiler that emits Go code with support for structuAug 22, 2026 1:12 PM
