Web Design Job for the EagerI have a bit of a story to tell here, but their might be a job in it for you, so bear with me. I just spent the last 45 minutes talking to the owner of Tahoe Reno Firewood. He seems like a really nice guy, and I really like his business - we've discovered that not everyone in the wood business is reliable or honest. What static web site generators would you use?Hi All,I need to build a simple static web site. Previously in the past I've played around with StaticMatic and found it quite good.Howeve the version number does not seem to have changed for a while and you are tied to HAML, not that that is a bad thing, its just it would be nice to be able to use other template languages.I've also read an article here by Tom Preston-Werner about his tool Jekyll . It looks very interesting, has anybody used it? Is it more blog orientated, by that I mean is it harder to use it for a different context?Finally I did a Google search and found this tool: . Rather insidious...Flash "cookies"If your browser has a Flash plug-in, it is capable of storing cookies that are not at all obvious.I'm fairly security-minded (as I use OmniWeb's many features for filtering out the stuff I don't want), but this one I missed. And it really bothers me, because:1. Nowhere in the contextual menu for Flash content is there any way to reach the interface for managing cookies (e.g. deleting them). For this, you have to go to a web page: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager07.html 2. The menu does have a "Settings" item, which displays many tabs of Flash player settings. This conspicuously does look like a complete set of controls, yet it omits cookie controls completely. In other words, if you think this shows everything the player can do, it doesn't.3. Although you can finally delete the cookies from the web site, I saw no "don't ever store cookies in the first place" option. So I basically have to keep going in and removing them. (You can limi

Bootstrapping to the Extreme (or "Consulting Your Way to Millions")I've wanted to write a quick note on here for awhile but kept getting tied up. However, reading Paul Graham's recent essay, "A Fundraising Survival Guide" (www.paulgraham.com/fundraising.html), it touched upon some aspects that I had wanted to write about and how it relates to my latest venture.PG wrote about bootstrapping and how that equates to consulting. Yes, bootstrapping DOES work. I've taken that idea to the extreme .. quite literally. My third company, Boylston Technology Group, is purely driven by consulting. The site is www.boylstontech.com, but a web site overhaul is slated to happen very shortly in the future so please excuse the ambiguities that currently exist.At the moment, we have 15 people with offices in a great location in downtown Boston (directly above a Starbucks and the Arlington T stop). Ask YC: Need a bit of advice, fellow student is screwing me over on this website.I confess to being a total moron for not getting anything in writing.Anyway: I was offered $500 to write a database-backed web app and missed one deadline they gave me. There were a couple occasions where I said I hoped to have it done soon, but didn't. Anyway, they never specificed exactly what they wanted, so I pushed out a functional version that had the general aesthetic they wanted, figuring that I could add in other changes once they played around with it a bit. I also had to pay about $300 in hosting, since their hosting wasn't set up to serve anything more than static HTML.Because they think I missed "several" deadlines and the site wasn't what they were imagining, they now want to pay me only $500, instead of $500 plus hosting. Effectively, only $200 for my work. My question: should I bargain or just take their new offer, or take down the site? I'm considering bargaining, because the guy's part of an organization, and I'd like the rest of the members to hear my side. What I wa
