Show HN: Automatically Turn PDFs into Fillable Formshttps://detect.penpusher.appMy hobby project is building a form filling assistant for complex forms, but it turns out that not every PDF form is digitally fillable. A lot of PDF forms are still made with the expectation that you print and fill them by hand. To fix this, I trained a series of models that detect where form fields _should _ exist, then built this utility to turn them into interactive forms. In my experience it's the best tool for the job across nearly every form. It ended up being super useful and pretty close to free to run (thanks Modal!), so I've hosted it as a free utility at https://detect.penpusher.app.There are some advanced settings as well, so if you're not getting good results with a specific pipeline you can try tweaking those, or let me know and I'd be happy to take a look. Plus the next round of model training is focused on improving handling of scans.Hope this is useful and happy to answer any questions!

Show HN: Scholium, Your Own Research Assistanthttps://github.com/QDScholium/ScholiumAII built an AI-powered research agent designed to efficiently discover, summarize, and cite relevant academic papers based on user queries. As a university student, I've written my share of essays and have also served as a copy editor for our student newspaper. During fact-checking, I noticed that Google often prioritizes unreliable and unscholarly resources—such as Medium articles, Reddit posts, and LinkedIn content—in its top results over scholarly ones. For instance, searching "Transformers" yields six blogs and articles before finally listing the Vaswani (2017) paper. This makes gathering credible sources and verifying facts tedious and time-consuming.I realized that much of the repetitive work involved in fact-checking and source collection could be streamlined using a vector database paired with a retrieval model, inspiring me to create Scholium, an AI-driven research assistant that recommends and summarizes academic papers relevant to your queries. Currently, Scholium has access t

Show HN: We Built Open-Source Alternative to OpenAI's Operator, Runs in Chromehttps://github.com/nanobrowser/nanobrowserHi HN,I'm one of the creators of Nanobrowser, an open-source Chrome extension that lets you automate web tasks using AI agents. We were inspired by the potential of tools like OpenAI's Operator, but we wanted something that was:-Open-Source:You can see the code, modify it, and contribute to the project.-Browser-Based:No complex setups or server deployments. It runs directly in your browser.-Customizable:You can tailor the agent's behavior to your specific needs.-BYO LLM:Bring your own large language model API key (OpenAI, Anthropic,or even local models), No vendor lock-in.-Privacy focused:All runs in your local browser. So we built exactly that, also with a multi-agent system to optimize performance and cost efficiency. We're launching today:https://github.com/nanobrowser/nanobrowserwe hope you like tinkering with it, and love your feedback!

Launch HN: Cuckoo (YC W25) – Real-time AI translator for global teamshttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43245153Hey HN! We’re Yong Hee and Gunwoo from Cuckoo (https://cuckoo.so), a real-time AI translator for global sales, marketing, and support. Companies like Snowflake and PagerDuty use us in Zoom calls and in-person meetings, including for technical discussions. Here’s a demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKU1fj3rxh4.With Cuckoo, you get an always-available, real-time translator that adapts to your conversations, helping teams avoid wasted time from language frictions.Language barriers are still a big challenge for companies with offices in different countries. I experienced this firsthand at my previous company in Korea when I invited international speakers to our meetups. Much of the nuance and technical details were lost, even though many attendees spoke adequate English. Speakers often felt isolated, unable to understand Korean discussions, and missed out on opportunities to network and market their products—despite these events being organized for customer interactions.Meetings with i

Show HN: Open-source Deep Research across workplace applicationshttps://github.com/onyx-dot-app/onyxI’ve been using deep research on OpenAI and Perplexity and it’s been just amazing at gathering data across a lot of related and chained searches. Just earlier today, I asked “What are some marquee tech companies / hot startups (not including the giants like FAAMG, Samsung, Nvidia etc.)”. It’s a pretty involved question and looking up “marquee tech startups” or "hot tech startups" on Google gave me nothing useful. Deep research on both ChatGPT and Perplexity gave really high quality responses with ChatGPT siding on slightly larger scaleups and Perplexity siding more on up and coming companies.Given how useful AI research agents are across the internet, we decided to build an open-source equivalent for the workplace since a ton of questions at work also cannot be easily resolved with a single search. Onyx supports deep research connected to company applications like Google Drive, Salesforce, Sharepoint, GitHub, Slack, and 30+ others. For example, an engineer may want to know “What’s happe
