Taiwan’s Moonshot: why ‘T-Dome’ needs systems engineering, not just a shopping listhttps://spacenews.com/taiwans-moonshot-why-t-dome-needs-systems-engineering-not-just-a-shopping-list/When President John F. Kennedy stood before Congress in May 1961 and declared that the United States would land a man on the moon before the decade’s end, his purpose was not to invent the space program, but to impose a clear objective, a deadline and the resources to unify these efforts. NASA’s Webb Delivers Unprecedented Look Into Heart of Circinus Galaxyhttps://science.nasa.gov/missions/webb/nasas-webb-delivers-unprecedented-look-into-heart-of-circinus-galaxy/The Circinus Galaxy, a galaxy about 13 million light-years away, contains an active supermassive black hole that continues to influence its evolution. The largest source of infrared light from the region closest to the black hole itself was thought to be outflows, or streams of superheated matter that fire outward. Launch HN: Tamarind Bio (YC W24) – AI Inference Provider for Drug Discoveryhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46515777Hi HN, we're Deniz and Sherry from Tamarind Bio (https://www.tamarind.bio). Tamarind is an inference provider for AI drug discovery, serving models like AlphaFold. Biopharma companies use our library of leading open-source models to design new medicines computationally. Here’s a demo: https://youtu.be/luoMApPegloTwo years ago, I was hired at a Stanford lab to run models for my labmates. Some post-doc would ask me to run a set of 1-5 models in sequence with tens of thousands inputs and I would email them back the result after setting up the workflow in the university cluster. At some point, it became unreasonable that all of an organization's computational biology work would go through an undergrad, so we built Tamarind as a single place for all molecular AI tools, usable at massive scale with no technical background needed. Today, we are used by much of the top 20 pharma, dozens of biotechs and tens of thousands of scientists. When we started getting adoption in the big pharma companies, Jan 6, 2026 5:49 PM

Ask HN: Better places to work for burntout SWE?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46211822I've tried my share of startups and megacorps, FAANGs. I am in a stage where I cringe on hearing a mission is so important that it needs a 996 culture. I also hate work getting stolen in the name of collaboration and politics in general thats daily business in Megacorps. I just want to bang out code, mentor juniors and deliver value in a small team that doesn't have an unhealthy obsession with growth or overworking. Maybe with rich founders who don't want to get more rich.Where can I find good places to work, especially in the US that offer: 1. Remote first setting 2. Mission oriented like Privacy, non-profit background etc (or Open Source with proven history) 3. Holocracy/Flat structureI think the above 3 criteria will really narrow down places that prioritize mission over growth/profits and automatically not pay a lot yet have a higher technical bar that deters a lot of folks who would end up optimizing for things that lead to a mess. Am I looking for a Unicorn?Dec 9, 2025 10:50 PM

LokiVector: An Embedded Document Vector DB Crash-Tested Durabilityhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46178312Hey HN/Reddit/dev community,I'm excited to open-source *LokiVector* - an embedded document database with vector search capabilities, built for modern AI applications.### What Makes It DifferentMost vector databases are either: - Cloud-only services (expensive, vendor lock-in) - Complex to deploy (require Kubernetes, lots of moving parts) - Missing durability guarantees (what happens if it crashes?)LokiVector solves this by being: - *Embeddable* - Runs in Node.js or browser, no external services - *Crash-Safe* - Validated with automated E2E crash recovery tests - *Simple* - JSON documents + vector search, no schema migrations - *Fast* - In-memory performance with disk persistence### The Durability StoryThis is what I'm most proud of. We test crash recovery across: - Documents and collections - Vector indexes (HNSW) - Partial writes and idempotencyAll validated with 7 comprehensive E2E test scenarios. You can literally kill the process mid-write and it recovers correctly.*Note:* ReplicatDec 7, 2025 1:11 AM

Ask HN: Who Is Working to Combat AI-Powered Fraud?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46137711There has been a recent explosion in AI-aided scams and fraud. Deepfakes (both video and voice), web scraping, and automated document generation have allowed scammers to target victims with more precision and believability than was ever possible before AI.All of this has always been possible to some degree, but "quantity has a quality all its own" continues to ring true.Public education ("scam awareness") is obviously the most decisive strategy, but is generally left to the underfunded public sector or the PR departments of banks, etc.As for AI-industry regulation, I'm not holding my breath. And besides, with open-source models there will always be products available to bad actors. So is anyone working on anything in the public interest? Any bright ideas?Dec 3, 2025 5:57 PM

Show HN: Open-Source Visual Wiki Your Coding Agent Writes for Youhttps://www.npmjs.com/package/daviaHi HN,We’re Ruben, Afnan, and Theo. A couple of days ago we released the early repo for Davia and were surprised by how much feedback came in right away. We decided to turn it into a full open-source package you can run locally.Davia is designed for coding agents to generate an editable internal wiki for your project. It focuses on producing high-level internal documentation: the kind you often need to share with non-technical teammates or engineers onboarding onto a codebase. Writing this kind of documentation takes forever, diagrams are often missing, and most tools don’t let you edit everything locally or integrate smoothly with your workflow.Davia is fully open source. It produces an editable workspace: – Text lives in a Notion-like editor – Diagrams live on editable whiteboards – Everything runs locally and can be modified either in your IDE or in the workspaceOne thing people found especially interesting is that you can delegate the documentation to your IDE’s AI agent.
