Show HN: A GitHub app that suggests code fixes for conversion failuresHi Hacker News!I’m Rashid, a first-year student at UT Austin and the person leading development of Rejourney, a web/app analytics and session replay tool.Recently, a handful of our users emailed us that they only care about a few user recordings (replays) that show conversion issues, and didn't want to waste time watching all the session replays they got. And no matter how many filters/smart capture rules we put in, the deterministic methods of choosing what to capture always missed important session recordings or overshot and recorded everything. In Europe for example, the DAC7 directive now requires collaborative platforms such as Airbnb and Booking.com to report users' income along with tax information. Financial institutions are also already required to perform international tax reporting under FATCA and CRS.As a result, there is an increasing need for TIN validation. During our research, we found that while this space was already occupied by a few established providers, many of the products felt brittle, lacked transparency, and were often surprisingly expensive. Show HN: Ember, a native iOS Hacker News reader I built around accessibilityI read HN on my phone every day and never really settled on a reader, so I wrote my own and finally tidied it up enough to put out there.It's plain SwiftUI with no third-party dependencies. A few things I spent the most time on:Comments are parsed and drawn as native text instead of being dumped into a web view. Links, italics, quotes and code blocks behave like the rest of the OS, text selection works, and threads collapse instantly. The whole comment tree comes back from the Algolia API in a single request, which felt a lot nicer than walking the Firebase API node by node.Accessibility. Nothing depends on color on its own, so points, read state and selection all carry a shape or an icon too. VoiceOver reads each story as one coherent element with proper actions, Dynamic Type and Reduce Motion are respected, and there's a color-blind mode. The first-run setup actually looks at your device's accessibility settings, switches on the matching options, and tells you what it changed instead

The internet is on life supportI am wondering what is going to happen to the internet when you can no longer navigate it with a Google Search? Its just astounding what OpenAI and Anthropic have accomplished, and I reminisce. I remember in 2004, how much better Google performed versus Alta Vista for finding sources for term papers and essays. Later, I learned that they achieved this by converting all the content on the internet to vectors, a process we would now call tokenization. I learned that they created the first stable search solution by inventing the scalable advertising business model using state of the art economics invented by Hal Varian. I was "Google native", Google was incredible.Google Search was the internet. I've used it to find almost everything: jobs, houses, cars, schools for me, schools for my kids. The crawler bot swarm has been hitting my PHP application like I've upset them so I'm seeing which weird user agent strings are being allowed to connect. There's "Sogou" and "meta-webindexer" and a small number of requests from "SleepBot/1.0"What's SleepBot?The ASN is Google and the UA string is: "Mozilla/5.0 AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko; compatible; SleepBot/1.0; +http //sleepbot com/) Chrome/131.0.0.0 Safari/537.36" [edited to make link non-clickable]So I visit the site. Show HN: I revived yuiblog.com, Yahoo's defunct front end engineering blogyuiblog.com was Yahoo's blog for YUI (Yahoo User Interface library) and one of the earliest places "frontend engineering" got taken seriously as its own discipline. It was home to early explorations on JS patterns, performance, accessibility, and design systems, years before any of that was mainstream. It featured over 1,000 posts from dozens of authors, including Douglas Crockford, Nicholas Zakas, Steve Souders, & Stoyan Stefanov.Sadly, Yahoo did as Yahoo does, and killed the blog sometime in the 2010s. Upon realizing what the web lost, I scraped everything off the Wayback Machine in 2020, before it eventually disappeared from there as well. The scraped HTML was badly mangled, with broken layouts, missing assets, bad links, and garbled post bodies from years of archive.org's own transformations. Reassembling it by hand looked like weeks or months of effort I'd never realistically get around to. So, there it sat in a zip file collecting dust for years, waiting for a spark.What eventual

Show HN: BookLike – Chrome reader mode with eBook-style page flipsI built my own reader mode because no existing solution had what I wanted: A reading experience similar to an ebook reader, with a minimal opinionated UI, open source and privacy-respecting. I was actually shocked how many extensions request full network and tab access.This has been my first time developing a browser extension.In a perfect world with semantic clean markup everywhere the process of reformatting a website into a reader interface would be quite easy, but real world HTML can be really messy. Simply passing the DOM to @mozilla/readability (the engine Firefox uses for its reader view) was not sufficient. While it does a good job at identifying the main article, normalizing HTML and removing junk like widgets within it needs additional heuristics. So I built a custom pipeline of pre- and postprocessing steps around it and tested on as many websites as possible.An interesting challenge has been how to get around CORS and CSP limitations by the host page. It was amazing project, which costed me $300+. Since halupedia uses a lot of AI I paid a lot for the bill, fortunately I'm fine thanks to donations and resigning from many planned features.It inspired me to built wattfare - just like BYOK it let's user bring their own AI budget to the site.It works like OAuth, user just clicks a single button, has ability to limit or revoke access for a website any time and has great developer experience (at least I think so ).In the future I'm going to add multiple ways for the user to pay for usage, ideally would try to make it possible to connect openai/anthropic subscriptions to wattfare, but it's not going to be that simple - if you have some thoughts about that, please let me know.
