Show HN: I made a customizable iOS browser for minimalists and myselfHello HN!So early this year I decided to build an iOS browser offering a large range of customization options, to accommodate anyone’s usage and visual preferences. Been using it as my default browser for 6 months and not looking back.On first launch it looks and behaves a bit like Safari, but to give you an idea, here are the various ways I customized it on my phone.- More screen real estate for the webpage, less for the toolbar.- A compact toolbar containing only the buttons for actions I use the most: new tab, close tab, open tab list. Since I use them hundred times a day, I need them available with button taps instead of swipe gestures.- A toolbar button layout adapted to my left-handedness.- A toolbar that disappears on scroll to allow full-screen reading.- The toolbar and address bar at the bottom, as they should be.- A popup menu showing the full URL and the buttons I use less frequently: back/forward (already available as screen edge gestures), share, reload, settings, etc.- Sh

I’ve been sailing through a series of meetings, deadlines, changing project requirements, office politics and general life that the caring of the craft is at the bottom of my list of cares.I used to care about the craft in detail: getting formatting in code right, following best practices, seeking the new more efficient way to do things. Self-Determination for Cities can avert wars and crises in Ukraine, elsewhereBefore modern nation-states, we had empires and cities. Empires would simply conquer cities top-down. (I don't agree we didn't have nation-states before. The Bible for example describes the 12 tribes of Israel being united, as well as lots of other nation-states around them: Midian had cities, Philistines had the pentapolis, etc.)But imagine if each neighborhood could pay for a free market of police agencies. The police agency would train local people to learn local laws and enforce them. If the agency and its tactics were too brutal or too ineffective, the neighborhood would simply give next year's tonract to their competitors.I think the same approach should be done with cities choosing the countries bottom-up. The UN could simply extend self-determination to cities and regions, allowing e.g. Lugano in Switzerland to join Italy if they felt it was in their best interests. Or Hong Kong could choose to secede from Mainland China. Then we wouldn't have these stupid wars. Most wars start

Ask HN: Why are cookie banners in Europe much more aggressive than in America?I turned of my ad blocker for a while today. It disables most cookie banners (or auto clicks them, I don't know). It may even be borderline legal if legal at all.My girlfriend has a salon and a personal booking system. Her name is a trademark registered in Australia.Here we were looking at google searching for her business when we see a page with her name in the first page of a Google result. On the page I can see her logo, and a list of services (with links that go to nowhere) with the banner at the bottom "this business accepts phone bookings only". The banner contains a link to her personal phone number.This is outrageous. We immediately sent a takedown notice by email.The website is bookwell.com.au. I've made a research and they're doing this for a lot of business in Sydney. Most, if not all business, have no idea that they were registered on the website.
