Show HN: Semcheck – AI Tool for checking implementation follows spechttps://github.com/rejot-dev/semcheckHi HN, like many I've been interested in the direction software engineering is taking now that coding LLMs are becoming prevalent. It seems that we're not quite there for "natural language programming", but it seems new abstractions are already starting to form. In order to explore this further I've built semcheck (semantic checker). It's a simple cli tool that can be used in CI or pre-commit to check that your implementation matches your specification using LLMs.The inspiration came while I was working on another project where I needed a data structure for a GeoJSON object, I passed Claude the text of RFC-7946 and it gave me an implementation. It took some back and forth after that before I was happy with it, but this also meant the RFC went out of context for the LLM. That's why I asked Claude again to check the RFC to make sure we haven't strayed too far from the spec. It occurred to me that it would be good to have a formal way of defining these kinds of checks that can be run in aJul 1, 2025 9:49 AM

Show HN: We're two coffee nerds who built an AI app to track beans and recipeshttps://beanbook.appIt’s available on iOS now: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id6499280064We got into specialty coffee during COVID and, like many others, fell deep down the rabbit hole. Along the way, we ran into the same frustrations:- A drawer full of empty coffee bags.- No simple way to track grind size, rest dates, notes—by bean.- My coffee history scattered across photos, screenshots, notebooks, and half-memories.- The unique traits, people, and stories behind each coffee disappearing from the internet once it sold out (since coffee is an agricultural good)- In our opinion, no coffee tool really captures the flavor, emotion, and aesthetic of great coffee—from a design perspective. So we built BeanBook—a coffee notebook log beans, extract recipes, and organize your coffee life in one place with just a snap, powered by AIHere’s what it does:- Snap a bag → Auto-detects roaster, origin, process, roast date, notes, producer, farm, and more- Paste a YouTube link or photo → Extracts a structured recipe automaJun 30, 2025 6:38 PM

Airbnb has locked payment on my account for 8 weeks and still no follow-up emailhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44424041A little before mid-May I opened Airbnb, as I’ve done hundreds of times over the past decade, to secure a house for an important summer event with friends. I clicked “Book,” waited for the familiar animation… and the payment failed. No big deal, I thought. I switched to another card. Same red banner. I tried my balance of gift credits. No luck. Over the next hour I repeated the ritual from three different devices—laptop, phone, even an old tablet—using cards issued while living and working all around Europe, both Americas, the Middle East. Every attempt ended the same way: an error, no explanation. For the first time in ten years of globe-trotting stays—rooftops in Lisbon, cabins in Patagonia, canal apartments in Amsterdam, lofts in San Francisco, studios in Dubai—Airbnb slammed a door in my face.So began my long walk through support. The chat agent was polite and assured me a “specialist” would email me. Days passed, and no email came. I tried again and again. Each new thread ended with Jun 30, 2025 2:48 PM

Ask HN: Are we not back where we started? A Return to Magichttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44422434There’s something uncanny about the way AI has reintroduced mystery into our deeply rationalist world. For centuries, since the Enlightenment tore away the veil of superstition, we have insisted on knowledge, on evidence, on repeatability. The scientific method—scrutiny, skepticism, and the rigors of proof—became not only the foundation of science but of governance, medicine, law, and almost all of modern life. This shift gave us not only power but confidence. We came to believe that with enough time and study, all phenomena could be understood. There were no more ghosts, only unexamined processes.Yet now, with AI systems growing in complexity, the mood has shifted. Despite knowing the mechanics—vector embeddings, attention mechanisms, stochastic gradient descent, and layers of matrix multiplication—many have begun speaking of AI with a kind of reverence or even fear. “Emergence” has become a buzzword that, while technically referring to higher-order behaviors arising from lower-order Jun 30, 2025 12:28 PM

Kitab An-Nur – Preserving human experiences before AI content takes overhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44411358I'm building something that might sound backward in 2025 – a deliberately text-only website that archives real human experiences. The problem: We're about to hit an inflection point where most online content will be AI-generated. There's a narrow window to preserve authentic human wisdom before it's buried under synthetic content forever. The approach:For starters : AI pipeline extracts actual wisdom from the internet, for example a Youtube video (25 min → 7 min of actionable content) Pure text interface, zero visual distractions or engagement manipulation Multilingual archive across languages Non-profit model focused on preservation, not monetizationTechnical challenge: How do you separate signal from noise at scale? Current approach uses LLMs to identify and extract experiential knowledge while filtering out promotional content, speculation, and fluff. Examples of what gets preserved:How someone in Mumbai saved their marriage (specific steps, not theory) How a farmer in Canada surviveJun 29, 2025 8:44 AM

Strategy or Just a Dream?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44394187n general, my current strategy is focused on increasing initial capital. Here's how I'm approaching it:I'm working in the mining industry in Australia, where even entry-level positions start at around AUD 2,000 per week. On a personal level, I hold tax residency in Paraguay. As for the business structure, I'm still deciding between setting up a Georgian LTD or an Estonian OU. If I find that a Belize-based company offers more credibility in Asian or European markets, I might go in that direction instead. The estimated cost to set everything up—both personal and operational—is around USD 10,000. Getting fiscal residency in Paraguay has become much simpler since 2022. Today, you can do it through a specialized agency for around USD 4,000. They also provide a temporary residential address, which is a requirement for filing the paperwork. That part was a bit of a hurdle for me, since I recently moved to Australia. Doing it independently would take around eight months, and you’d still need toJun 27, 2025 6:27 AM

Show HN: Checkpoint K8s pods transparently (plain CPU or GPU accelerated) [video]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9yY6_2255YHi HN,I am an early adopter of containers with a background in HPC. From the early days, I’ve tried to merge container tech into the HPC (and HTC) stack. Containers already make packing and deployment easier - especially in AI/ML and data science. How about checkpoint/restore?Over the last couple of months, we at MemVerge have developed a Kubernetes Operator for transparent checkpointing and restoring, allowing you to use discounted Spot instances for long-running workloads, like bioinformatics workflows or ML training. Here’s how it works: - the operator attaches a PVC to your pod - intercepts the STOP signal to checkpoint the pod - if the attached PVC contains a checkpoint when the pod is starting over, it will be restored instead of starting from scratch. Here’s a 2m30s video that demonstrates interrupting a small training workload: https://youtu.be/K9yY6_2255YThis can be triggered by someone draining the node (e.g., due to an EC2 Spot reclaim), deleting a pod, or another operator actJun 27, 2025 5:33 AM
